About Me
Retired after 40+ years of nursing. Love to scrapbook and knit but at the encouragement of my Mother, I gave quilting a try. What an addiction! I thought scrapbook paper was addictive! ha! Lot to learn and would love to find out about quilting by hand, machine, paper piecing and more about applique. Trying to take some classes and work those in as I care for an elderly relative. Glad to have found this site! Love the fabrics.

Where's Herman aka Monsters in the Closet

Thanks to all who offered help with my 1/2 triangles and then whether I should mitre my border or not. He's finished (well, except for the label). Thanks again to all the great folks on this site and their talent and suggestions! Pics are posted on my page. (I have an old version of some program that makes other pics huge - sorry!)
I've been a little "quiet" recently due to a very sick pup (who is now, happily, sleeping on my chest) and a fall my uncle experienced - so I've been a little distrac… Continue

Hi Janice! I know it is difficult to get away when you are a caregiver, but our quilt group meets once monthly in the evening for 2 2-12 hrs. And you would be amazed at how that socialization really helps! Have a good day! Jeanne

Hi Janet - Well, I attended a Lees Summit Quilting Guild Group and it was nice. I saw a whole bunch of beautiful quilts, and saw a trunk show as well. I bought a pattern and some material to start my first ever lap size quilt. I put the pattern picture up on the Stack & Whack Group page. Sounds fun, the things you've been making. Have a nice day!

Mornin' Janet - I am south. I know of Heritage Fine Fabrics in Belton. I discovered that Vicky Girten is in Belton and is very familiar with that shop. I saw Joann's has some quick classes.
I signed up for the newsletter that the owner of HFF's sends out. There are some groups and etc. I know I'm being picky, but I asked if she knew of anyone who had a group that focused on smaller projects and things like totes, skinny quilts, vests, etc., and she didn't know of a group like that. Guess most groups meet for larger quilts alone.

Good Morning Janet, Your life sounds a bit like mine. I'm up to my neck in sewing but everytime I turn around someone needs me. This morning I have to go to my friends house and wait for the furnace man to come. She does fill-in work at her friends restaurant and wouldn't you know she gets called in when the furnace man is coming. So I have two patterns that need to be cut out so I'm taking my work with me. I'm making two halloween costumes that I have to send to Indiana. I want to get them done by the 17th so I can take them to our guild Annual Meeting for the show and tell. Last year I didn't have anything to show. Everything I made was a gift that went out the door shortly after it was made. And I never get to make anything for myself. Yesterday I put two zippers in a duffle bag. It took me 4 1/2 hours. My arms and shoulders were aching trying to juggle that awkward thing. It's made out of a canvas fabric. It's one thing to make something from scratch but when it's already made and you have to rip it apart it's hard to put back. I hope I don't get anymore of them. You never know what your going to have to fix when it comes to alterations. Zippers seem to be a #1 request . AND I HATE INSTALLING THEM.lol It's beautiful here this morning. You have a great day and I hope your friends husbands is feeling better soon.

Your quilts are very nice. I love your pict of the squirrel, don't they know what they need!
Well, if you ever hear of anyone in the KC area who gives classes let me know because I am pretty much a beginner at quilting. Just trying to figure out where to start. One thing I've decided is - start small and work up, ha!

Janet,,,, so glad to hear everything is ok. Was beginning to wonder!! Wow,,, your trip to OH & MI sounds like a great time. Family fun and some surprises. Glad to hear that everyone loved their quilts, sorry no pictures,, would have liked to see them. I never made it to the show at Country Stitches, either. Did make the big one in Lansing, but was disappointed with it.
Went on a 2 day shop hop last weekend. Started in Au Gres [sp?] off US 23,, then north to Oscoda. Took a side trip while in Oscoda, and headed north for 20 miles for another quilt store,, then also visited the one in E. Tawas.
Then we jumped on M-55 and headed to West Branch where there were 2 stores. From there we went to Houhgton Lake and visited 2 more stores, then to Farwell west of Clare. Never ever heard of Farwell, but a cute place.
We had a lot of fun. Went with a online friend,, when we both were on AOL. Spent one night in E. Tawas area and one night in Houghton Lake area.
When I got home on Saturday, Ed was golfing, and we had a message. I won a daily drawing at one of the stores in West Branch!!! Nice surprise. Then when Ed got home, I needed to run to Post Office, and received another call. Won another daily drawing in Oscoda!! We are heading back up tomorrow!! LOL
We will be heading to NY next Tuesday, the 13th. DGD's birthday party is the 17th. Back home on the 19th. DGD will be 6 on the 21st. New baby is about 4 weeks away,,, due date is Oct 30.
I am still plugging away on quilts and tops. Have one on the frame, and need to get a few sandwiched for either hand quilting or machine,, these can be done on the Bernina.
Think there might be a couple on my page you hadn't seen yet.
Well, almost time to get off and start my day. Glad to hear you are back home safe and sound, after a wonderful trip!!

Janet, so nice to hear from you. I bet your quilts for the girls were beautiful and well appreciated. I'm glad you had a nice time with your family.
It's good to get away from the daily routine once in awhile. We went to Indiana in June for two weeks. It nice to hear from you again. Have you tried the chat room yet? I have been using it in the evenings and enjoying chatting with my friends. Have a great day. P.S. I love the little mouse waving at me. lol

Janet, love your little mouse that Its Vic sent you. How sweet. Glad you had a great mini reunion. Where is home Janet? I don't mean Liberty (ha) I mean where are you travelling too? Hope you have a great time and will you be gone long as you said it was so much travelling, you don't want to be gone just for a short time. Take care and thanks for the complements on the table runner.

Good Morning Janet, It's a cold rainy day here in Maine and good one to get some serious sewing done. I have more projects then I have time to do them.
It has been quiet on QWU all summer so now that fall is here I'm looking forward to hearing from my sewing sisters and see what they are making to gain some inspiration to get me moving. I hope that all is well in your life. ~ Irene
