One Block Wonder Done!

Posted on February 20, 2012 at 6:51am 10 Comments

So the "I'll just try a few blocks" turned into a full fledged one block wonder that's pretty funky and reminds the husband of cabbage but me of leafy jungles and dinosaurs (Barney haunting because of the purple?)  {lol}  The starting material was Jane Sussmann's Sunshine and Shadows in periwinkle and I strip pieced some onto the back to show what it all started from.  The…

Pondering how to quilt this....

Posted on February 20, 2012 at 6:30am 9 Comments

I'm an absolute beginner at machine quilting and have this baby quilt pieced and ready to go.  I'd like to conquer it and want to do a nice job as it's going to be a gift.

Ideas anyone?

I don't know how recently you were transplanted from Milwaukee.  But Mpls / St Paul has a ton of quilt shops to choose from.  When I lived in south Minneapolis, my favorite place was Glad Creations on 34th & Bloomington.

There is a Spring Shop Hop - should be starting sometime in April. Glad Creations is just one of the shops on this hop.  I think you would really enjoy it!

Then the Minnesota State wide Shop Hop is Aug 3 - 19th which includes 77 quilt shops.  Grand prize drawing is a trip for 2 to Alaska!

And if you venture west of the Twin Cities, where I currently live.  There is the Wild West Shop Hop that is in November.

I have not seen any of her quilts except for the ones using her pre-printed kaleidoscopes.  I'm sure many/most quilters are overwhelmed at the thought of the intricate pieces and thought that go into those!  I love asian fabrics too!  My husband keeps me on a fabric diet so I don't spend much on fabrics....at least not all at once! ;0)

Jen, I wish you were closer so we could sit and do a Paula Nadelstern kaleidoscope together!!!!  I love her designs and fabrics!  What patterns/fabrics are you going to use?  I love her new line Patternista....I have been drooling over the Dragon Feathers for a while now lol

 You have some beautiful quilts.

Mrs. Day sure has helped me explore motion quilting even on my longarm. Glad it might help. If I can see it done then I can understand it better. I have lots of CD, books and patterns but I am still learning after four years with a longarm. The home machine was not fun for big quilts, but it can be done.

Where you able to find Leah Day's 365 Days Free motion quilting? She has been showing ithis month how to do a small quilt on your home machine. She explains some of the problems and how to deal with them.
