About Me
I have been quilting for nearly 9 years. I have a fabulous husband and two wonderful children. A girl (5 years old) and a boy (soon to be 4 years old). We also have a very old Boston terrier.

Outside of quilting I love to garden...I grew up digging up potato and picking watermelons and shucking corn but now I enjoy planting and trimming flowers. Once in a while I will grow some tomatoes or radishes in a container but mostly I love the smell and beauty of flowers.

Feb 2010

Should call this post Dec and January as I had to quickly make a baby quilt in January. We finally found out about a month before baby was born it was a girl. So I made up an Irish chain quilt in purple and white. Started quilting on a Sunday the day the baby girl was born, a week early. I sure hope my

Quilt for my husband

My husband got his new assignment...he is going to Korea for a year. Which means we don't have to worry about moving for 2 years. Don't worry about the math on that one. He doesn't actually leave until next year. lol
But I am not going to stop reducing my stash, I am on a roll and I am loving the scrappy quilts that are appearing around my house.

He has asked me to make him a quilt. He has already contacted the person he is replacing and gotten some miner details concerning his room while there… Continue

Feeling overwhelmed

Oh my, I am having that feeling like I have to much going on. I excepted two scrappy challenges which I know isn't a absolute must do and can be completed anytime but I do like a deadline. I have two other scrappy quilts in the making which I am doing for my own personal challenge. My goal is to reduce my stash by half in case we have to move next year.
I have two quilts to complete for a charity auction...due in Aug/Sep
and then some others which I know will go into the UFO pile because my othe… Continue

I went to a quilt show today...

My husband took the kids fishing and I cleaned up the bedrooms, did the dishes and then drove 20 miles to a quilt show...It was wonderful to look at the fabulous quilts. Quilters Unlimited Show in Chantilly, VA. It was nice and quite and I got to shop! I did add 9 yards to my stash but I am sure to be on the plus side eventually. For my weekly stash busting count I am now in the red with -19 yards...To bad I don't need to make any backings for anything any time soon.

Three more months my oldest… Continue

I'm not good with names either but alot of times I'll simply adapt the name (you mentioned 2 names in your post) to something that was in my head while making the quilt - say, if it's for a specific recipient, or that you made it from scraps - say, scrappy butterflies - Or Jens' butterflies.
I have a mystery quilt that was a class. In the supply list for getting started, it listed "focus fabric" - I used something that I really liked for that. But when the quilt top was finished, there wasn't as much of this particular fabric as I expected. So I got creative - I added a border that used alot of the focus fabric.
I named my quilt "Finding Focus" - completely irrelivant to anyone else, but I know where it came from.
If you've got a "whoopsy" in your quilt somewhere, you could even make some kind of reference to that. - say "Jacks' friend" (Jack being your seam ripper)

Hi Jennifer, thank you for the compliment on my DH's tote bag. He packed his stuff in it last night, and took it to work with him this a.m.

Best to you as your DH heads off to Korea. As far as the quilt you need to add onto for him, you could always add additional blocks past the current borders, using the completed section you have now as the center of a medallion type quilt.

Hi Jennifer:
Welcome to the Quilt Frame. This has been such a great place to meet other quilters of all ages. I checked out your blog. I love how you have kept track of how much fabric you have and how much you use. I have stuff in plastic shoe boxes all over the place - I think it would be really hard for me to track it. You sound like a very organized person which is great. Loved your quilt show and your use of color. Again, great to have you joining us. Joyce

Welcome Jennifer!
So happy to have you aboard............ 9 years, well guess you aren't what we might call a newbie that's for sure........ With two little ones it has to be hard to find the time to quilt!
I still feel very much a newbie only been up to this for almost two years now, still so much to learn. I am picking up some great tips on this site that's for sure!
Have a great day!
