I've been quilting for over 20 years. I took lessons and learned all the handwork. Since that time I've made numerous quilts, large, gigantic and baby, and don't have a single one to show for it. I give all of them away. I couldn't sell them because they are priceless. Too much of my soul goes into them.
I'm married and have 3 grown up and gone children, 2 that are still single and at home (1 in college and 1 in high school), 14 grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren. I don't have a job outside the house. I love animals and currently have 4 cats and 3 dogs. Oh. And a Guinea Pig.
I love cooking and making quilt blocks. I think Sunbonnet Sue is probably my favorite, but I love all of the others, too. I like brighter colors, rather than neutrals. I love applique of any kind more than piecing. I love to incorporate paints and machine embroidery into my blocks as well. I'm not sure what paper piecing is... but if it involves freezer paper and applique, I have done it. If it's that thing where you turn it upside down and stitch along the paper, I haven't.
I'm hoping we can share recipes and chit chat along with sharing quilting secrets and patterns. A swap or two might be fun, too. I'm on 1 other site, but the bickering and fighting has made me just about stay away. It's a shame.
I don't know how to machine quilt except for straight stitching with a walking foot. I wish I could meander, but I just can't handle all the extra quilt in my lap. Now, quilting it square by square is no problem.
