Back in the Saddle Again...

Posted on November 6, 2009 at 7:09am 8 Comments

I've been away from this site and from quilting for a loooong time. But now I'm back and ready to dive back into quilting. My latest quilting related challenge is that I am moving from a 5 bedroom house into a 1 bedroom apartment so my new quilting space is going to be very, very small. I'm used to having an entire quilting room, now I'm going to have a quilting corner. But, I know I can make it work. The silver lining to my move: I used to have to spend 3 to 4 hours a day commuting to and from… Continue

Try Again Another Day

You ever have one of those days where you just can't measure or cut to save your life? Yesterday was one of those days for me. I was working on something fairly simple, cutting and sewing bias cut strips together for binding and I was having the hardest time with every little simple step. I couldn't cut a straight line and if I did manage to cut a decent line, then the fabric would slip without me realizing it and I'd end up with a non-square piece of fabric that I was supposed to be squaring.… Continue

Quilting or Bust!

Posted on March 27, 2009 at 7:43am 3 Comments

I'm quilting this weekend and nobody can stop me! My New Year's resolution was to make more time for quilting and I was doing pretty good until March. I've barely lifted a fabric square all month. I've had family obligations on a few weekends and I spent some time spring cleaning on other weekends. But not this weekend! I'm quilting no matter what. My husband is out of town until late Saturday night which leaves me all night tonight and tomorrow to quilt completely undisturbed. Well, not… Continue

To those who Quilt for Charity

Posted on March 26, 2009 at 7:00am 2 Comments

Phew. I'm in a MUCH better mood today than I was yesterday. It's cold and rainy here in D.C. but I can't complain. Especially after seeing photos of what's going on in North Dakota. Flooding and snow at the same time! Yikes!! I'm hopeful that the towns in danger of flooding are somehow spared. Good luck North Dakotians!

My home state of Iowa had severe flooding last year. Cedar Rapids, where I lived for three years has dozens, if not hundreds of blocks that have been completely… Continue

For the past two days I have had a serious case of crankiness. I'm annoyed at everyone and everything and for no good reason whatsoever. I think it's partly due to the weather and partly due to hormones. I want it to hurry up and get warm but cold winter temperatures are still hanging around. Most of my tried and true crankiness remedies have not been working for me this time, including; watching comedies, looking up pictures of cute baby bunnies and kittens on the internet, venting to friends,… Continue

I hope you were able to bring your beautiful ktn with you in the move, how I would miss if my orange tabby couldn't come along. I will have to deal with such scenario downsizing from 3bedroom & basement to 1bed apartment, try to prepare my brain to that idea, not quite ready for it yet.l

My flower quilt was made from the book: Stitch and Split Applique by Joan Segna (2004) I just saw one on ebay for $7. I did add the prairie points.

Or a quilt gets pottied on. No kidding. That's why all my quilts are very washable. I DO sacrifice for my cat!!!! I wish she understood that better. Every two years my husband starts yelling about getting rid of her. Thank God she is "Very loving"!!!! and he does love her too.

Thanks for the link. The quilt is beautifull. I may have to buy the book myself.

oooooo, thanks for the heads-up. I got my copy of Fons & Porter yesterday and have already picked out a 'I want to make this one!', but didn't notice the coupon. I'm like you, I LOVE using coupons and am so proud when I can tell hubby how much I saved at the grocery store. I'll also use coupons to purchase food to donate to the local food bank- a lot of times it will be on special and with the coupons, it's almost FREE.

Hi Julie, Yes have looked into mailing them away. But then I get panicked what if they get lost. I know I can insure them but for how much? How do you value something like that? I am thinking about maybe quilting myself. Just not sure where to begin. I would like her to have it before she is a gran. LOL

Hi Julie, Thanks for the nice words you left for me on my kitty quilt. No two kitties are the same. That's what happens when you don't read the pattern right. My daughter (has 8 cats) fell in love with the quilt. And I was outbid on ebay for the one like you mentioned. So we found the magazine and went shoping. I think we ended up with about 250 different prints in it. She loves it. I just need to find someone to quilt it. Where I live there is only one lady and she is not nice and does not do good work. Thanks again and look forward to hearing from you again. Good luck with your kitties. Laura
