We are lucky enough to have a quilt shop in Havana, IL which is the small town in which I work, called Ma's Gotta Notion which is smaller than the Calico Country but it carries more of the type of fabric I like and it is good quality. She also has a long arm and will custom quilt anything you like. My son just graduated from the SIU law school but is still there for 2 more months taking the class for the bar. My daughter-in-law just graduated also with her Master's but was also working in the rec. department as part of her internship with SIU. I have never been to any of the fabric stores in St. Louis. I really do like the fabrics from Connecting threads the cost is reasonable compared to the cost of fabric at other quilts shops and the quality is also good. The Calico country seemed to have a lot of the machine embroidery projects and I have never done any of it. I think it would be fun but I do not have the time to learn that right now.

Are you involved with the College. I have a son who graduated from Southern. That is a beautiful area. When we would visit you have a nice quilt shop called I believe The Calico Corner or something like that. Very beautiful area!!

About Me

I have been quitling for about ten years and am always looking for some new technique to learn. I usually have two to three projects going on at one time.

I have been teaching special education fror 36 years and have served as faculty sponsor of the yearbook for the past 23 years. I just am three semesters away from retirement. At that time I hope I can develop the majority of time to quilting. I also teach a night class at SIU and will probably continue that after retirement. My son lives in Juneau, Alaska and my daughter lives in Oakland, California so I have the opportunity to visit a lot of different quilt stores we we visit them. I think my favorite quilty store is in Lansing, Iowa a small town near my home town of Decorah, Iowa. Visiting quilt stores is almost as fun as quilting.

This is my first attempt at blogging, so we will see what happens. I am looking forward to "meeting" a lot of quilters.
