About Me
HI..I'M KAREN..A GREEN HORN TO QUILTING..BUT STILL LEARNING..ESPECIALLY FROM MY SISTER..SANDRA..SHE IS MY INSPIRATION..SHE IS SO CREATIVE..AND VERY MOTIVATED.
MY FIRST QUILT WAS IN MY UNION HALL..THRU CHRYSLER..ALL BY HAND..WHAT A JOB. THE TEACHER..WAS VERY IMPATIENT WITH ME..AS I HAD A FULL TIME JOB..I HELPED MY FRIEND WITH HIS TWIN BOYS AFTER THE LOSS IF THIS WIFE..PLUS I WAS HELPING MY DAD REBUILD ON HIS HOUSE. SO I CONTINUED TO GET BEHIND..BUT WAS VERY INTERESTED..KEPT COMING TO CLASS. NEXT CLASS SHE ASKED..WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING..I REPLIED..I'M LEARNING..AND I WILL GET THESE BLOCKS CAUGHT UP..IF I STAY UP ALL NIGHT....OR...ASK MY GREAT SISTER FOR HELP.LOL. LITTLE DID TEACHER KNOW...NEEDLESS TO SAY..I SHOWED UP A FEW MINUTES LATE..BUT...GOT MY LAP QUILT ON THE STRETCHER..AND WE BASTED ALL LAYERS TOGEHTER. YA SEE...SISSY AND I STAYED UP ALL NIGHT AND FINISHED TOGETHER..THAT THE WAY WE ARE..WE ARE THERE FOR EACH OTHER..SHE'S THE BEST. OF COURSE THE TEACHER THOUGHT IT WAS DONE ON MACHINE..BECAUSE WE WERE SO GOOD ON OUR STITCHES..WELL SHE MUST HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT MY SISTERS AREA..BUT I DID TAKE THE CREDIT ..OF COURSE..HAD TO SHOW HER ...I WAS DETERMINED TO MEET THE DEADLINE..AND EVERYONE IN CLASS WAS SO HAPPY --TO SEE THE TEACHER WAS WRONG..LOL. IT MUST HAVE BEEN YEARS LATER..SHE SEEN ME..AT A SHOW, IN THE CROWD..AND ADMITTED..SHE WAS SO WRONG TO DISCOURAGE ME THAT WAY..AND WAS GLAD TO SEE SHE DIDN'T BREAK MY SPIRIT ,FOR QUILTING..THANKS TO MY SISTER!! I LIVED IN EHPRATA,PA MANY YEARS AGO..AND THEY ANNOUNCED A QUILT GATHERING..SO I SHOWED..AND A AMISH WOMEN ANSWERED THE DOOR..SO I SAID..IS THIS WHERE THE QUILTING LESSON IS?? WELL I'M A LITTLE SLOW AT TIMES..AND SHE JUST LOOKED AT ME..WITH SURPRISE..AND WHAT COULD SAY...BUT YES...I HAPPILY WALKED IN..AND SEEN THE NICIEST GROUP OF QUILTING LADIES....ALL AMISH..I DID LAUGH THEN. THEY LOOKED AT ME..WITH SURPRISE AS WELL..PLUS THEY WONDERED HOW I COULD QUILT WITH SUCH LONG NAILS..I MADE IT THRU THE SESSION..WENT TO ONE MORE..BUT THEN ,DID MOVE ONTO ANOTHER AREA,LOL. SO NEVER GIVE UP..WE ARE ALL HERE TO LEARN AND HAVE FUN. HOPE TO CHAT WITH MANY AND LEARN..HAVE A GREAT SEWING DAY..LATER KAREN

You know, I don't think I know. I know it's a Disney, but don't know the model number. I haven't really gotten too familiar with it. I just submitted my retirement letter to my superintendent last week. So, hopefully, after June 6 I will find time to work on it. I'm not very good learning from the book. I do better being shown, so it will take longer. I have lots on my mental list to do; hope I get to it.

Oh, I forgot....I have the Disney embroidery machine that I borrowed from another sister....a common theme here? But I haven't even gotten acquainted with it. Guess I better get busy.

You know she has said the name of her school dozens of times, and it doesn't stick with me. She is a reading teacher for LD, and it's at a sort of arts magnet school. Their school mascot is a purple dragon, I do remember her telling me that, as well. She is a young widow with two grown daughters, one a teacher in Christiana(?). Her name is LIbby Stevenson. I'll tell you a funny story about her.
Last week she was up to her ears with a belligerent 8th grader. So she was on her way home and "happened to find the quilt shop" on the way. She went in and told the lady she just wanted to "touch fabric and cool off". Ended up buying a purse pattern. Next when she went home, she decided she didn't like her stash, so the next day went back and bought something she liked. She sat down and made the whole darn thing in one night. She must have been really mad at that kid. LOL
Anyway, I've done a fair amount of running around the area on my visits, from DC to PHIL (my airport). We've hit the beaches at Rehoboth, Bethany, Dewey etc. And countless venues in bertween.
My niece was married last May and I was out there for that. We always have fun. We keep saying that "next time" we are going to Lancaster County. I better bring $$$$ ha ha
My name is Lana Ebeling, by the way. So fun to talk to someone who kind of knows where I've been. If I find out the name of her school, I'll let you know.

Karen, Cookies sound goood. I've had too many of those this winter. Have a few extra pounds to prove it so looking forward to warm weather so I can get out side and work in the garden and walk. But I have really enjoyed the extra time quilting this winter. Talk to you later.

Karen, It is nice to have a sister who loves to quilt. My family quilted down thorough the years and now my daughter likes to quilt and keeps me motivated. I've been quilting for several years but now work partime so now have more time to work on my quilts. This is such a neat group with so many beautiful things and ideas out there. I'm learning more every day. How fun.
