About Me
I am a Gifted/Talented Teacher in a large school district. I keep very busy being a wife, keeping in touch with 3 grown daughters (thanks to Verizon's unlimited mobile to mobile minutes) and checking in on 3 very special grandchildren. (With a 4th due in September)

I started quilting as a child with my grandmother. I have been doing projects ever since. I've made quilts for my grand kids as well as selling some of the projects to stores and others.

I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. This drive has led me into several adventures over my life. My latest project is the selling of educational toys and games that stimulates the development and learning of children while having FUN! I have seen the importance of play as I have worked with gifted children and by watching my own grand kids. I'll stop my sales pitch now.

My motto has become: "People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing." Dale Carnegie. I have been trying to put this into practice as I work in my church, my job, and of course with my family. That is why I quilt.

I just signed up to join Quilt with Us. I am very excited. I am a teacher so do a lot of my quilting during the summers. I am just beginning to make play quilts for my grandchildren for Christmas.

I am making a 3-D flower wall quilt for my granddaughter that will be born the 1st of Sept. Next I am making a car quilt (with the roads in the middle) for my 7 year old grandson.

I want to make a pocket quilt for my 4 year old… Continue

Hi Karla,
Thanks for the info on the toys. And I'm delighted to be your friend on QWU. I work for Oracle-USA as a 'mobile' consultant, working on projects for a giant insurance company creating their insurance forms for Travel and Airline agencies.
Working from home has its benefits, but I really wish I could just stay home to quilt, sew and watch my granddaughter. I'm thinking of putting in for my retirement this year, 40 years of working for others is finally taking its toll on my patience and brain.
Sorry about the loss of your kitty. It's sad to give up our pets but we must think also of their quality of life. I'm sure she has left you with good memories.
I have been looking at my boxes of patterns to see if I still have that blanket with pockets, once I find it I'll send it to you.
Warm regards (stay cool) - Aida

We probably know some mutual people. My husband went to college with Tim Waller of Holdrege. (Waller Feedyards). I've also been to the Holdrege quilt shop a few times. :0)

Hi Karla, thank you for the friend request. I think you'll enjoy the site. If you like hand quilting, you might want to think about the "Around the Quilt Frame" group of hand quilters (many machine quilt as well). We have a good time there. I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures!

Hi Karla, I am delighted to be your friend. I love this site and have learned much from it, and have developed some wonderful friendships on it. Some of my friends I have met face to face as a result of being on this site and others I have yet to meet. The pillowcases were not my original idea but I "improved" on the way they were done from the original case I saw. I am happy to give you the directions on how I did them. And the advent calendar quilt, again was not my original idea for the quilt itself, but the implementation of the daily bags to open was my idea. Again, I am happy to share all of that with you too. I have 3 friends that I helped make the same calendar for last year and I have 2 more that want to make them this year. I have saved all my daily gift and activities for the bags from each year and can show you what kind of things I did. For instance, one of the days might have a small craft--I would include everything needed to complete the craft so mom or dad didn't have to go looking for tape or glue or anything and the kids could start right away upon opening the bag. some days had a small treat. A couple of the days had items in them that the kids were to share with a neighbor or friend. Another day might they would find a Christmas mug for each child, a package of hot cocoa for each family member and a Christmas story book with instructions to make the cocoa and read the story. My gchildren and my kids love this tradition each year. The kids can't wait to open their bag each day. Anyway, I am happy to give you more details, maybe in an email so it doesn't take up so much room here.

Yep, a fellow Husker, but we're at the western end of the state, south of North Platte. My kids go to school at Chadron State, one a senior and one a freshman, so we're rapidly facing an empty nest. Will look forward to getting to know you better.

Thank you, Karla......sounds like you're a busy gal. Not too far from the KC area where I'm at - nice to meet another "mid-westerner". You will enjoy this site! I find there are times I spend way too much time reading and admiring the other quilts! Welcome!!

Years ago, McCall's had a pattern a blanket that has pockets for beanie babies. I bought it because I have a large collection of Beanie Babies (actually, most of the cats collection), and I planned on making the blanket. Let me see if I still have it, and I'd gladly give you the directions.

You'd surely be very busy with the quilts you are planning to make. It's lots of fun though, a great stress reliever.
Cheers - Aida

Welcome to QWU. Does FunnyBrainyToys have any dealer or store in New Hampshire? I have a 2+ year old daughter and I'm interested in getting her the toys that are on your website.
Thank you - Aida
