About Me
I'm married to a wonderful man for the past 38 years. We have to children and three grandkids. Yes, the grandkids are my life! I babysit two to three days a week since everyone has to work which cuts down on my sewing time. I have been sewing for at least 50 yrs. but did slow down for a few years. I really like to quilt and only have been doing it for 2 1/2 yrs. I need to get better at machine quilting but I'm sure that will take time. Hope you all enjoy sewing and sometimes we just have to make time.
Hobbies and Interests

Quilt Retreat!!

Posted on April 24, 2009 at 7:30am 0 Comments

Next week this time I'll be at a 3 days quilt retreat. I've been cutting out a quilt plus they have a mystery quilt so of course I have to do that! I'm also taking the last of my southern star quilt to work on. I haven't had time so I have six blocks to work on. Started out good but other things got in the way. I do have to learn to make my time work better for me and for quilting!! I'm afraid I'm not taking enough to do for 3 days. I just might have to cut something else out just to make sure.… Continue

Something new

Posted on March 15, 2009 at 2:58pm 1 Comment

It's been a long time since I've posted a blog. Last week I got my order from CT and one thing I did order was fork pins. A friend told me they will really help matching seams together. Well I'm working on block 5 and the seams did come out a lot better. I just may have to rip apart one of the blocks I'm not really happy with and resew it. Just thought I'd share my thoughts about fork pins.

Thanks to my wonderful husband I just loaded some pictures. Hope you enjoy looking at them. I'm so glad blocks 1 and 2 are done, and I can't wait to do more. TOday it's off to the hospital to see a friend and then dinner with our kids for Papo's birthday. Hope everyone has a good day with whatever you do today. Kathy Marie

Hi Kathy,  thanks for the compliments on the butterfly quilt.  Yes, each butterfly was hand stitched down.  Part of the reason I suspect different ladies worked on these is that the hand stitching is not the same on all the blocks, plus the muslin is not the same.  I wish I had a better camera that would allow me to showcase the blocks a bit better.  Have fun working on the quilt for your granddaughter. If you decide to use a fusible, use something like HeatnBond Lite as that will let you hand stitch them down using something like a blanket (buttonhole) stitch.

I got on here last night.  I forgot all about this web site.  Life just got in the way, nothing bad, just really busy.  I posted a 3-D heart I did for my daughter in law. I'm always working on something sometimes good sometimes having a hard time.  we all do that.  At this time I'm working on a Spring wall hanging for my daughter then start another one for my daughter in law.  My son and daughter in law also asked for a quilt for above the fireplace.  That I hope to cut out this week.  I'm going to try to keep up better.  Enjoy sewing!

My serger is an older model, so it is manually threaded. Sometimes it takes me way too long to get it correct. However, when I do, making pillowscases is a shorter process than using the regular machine. Because these cases cost more than I care to spend at the store, I really enjoy making my own and as appreciated gifts. It doesnt work sense I changed one of the needles, so this is where the problem probably is.

oops, have two daughters online - one on chat yahoo and the other on messenger. Just to comment on watching our grandkids. It started out just a couple days a wk, and I could handle that. But the 5 and half day schedule left me drained. : ) They were good kids, too. Hope u find more time for yourself, a lest some. Enjoy your grandkids while u can, tho. They are gone all too soon. Days are long but the years are too short. Hope to log on more often, at least once a wk even. God Bless.

Wow, watching grandchildren take a lot of energy I am glad u seem to have. I like to help out, too, but am glad to just be grandma again. My two grandkids need someone with much more energy than I remember. : ) Just Sam here now but she is already to start her freshman year at high school within walking distance. I am glad to get back to my sewing room, just remodeled from one of the kids bedrooms by the son-in-law who lived here for awhile with family. I am very blessed. My room is my retreat. Hubby is a workaholic so I keep busy in there, along with spending time with my very first granddaughter, Sam. Difficult to garden this summer with so much lack of rain. Hope this finds u well, even with the strange weather we've been having lately.

Hello Kathy Marie,
Back from Ca. and visiting with my sister. She really looks pretty good. She's lost about 20 lbs already, and all her hair. But she has a very good attitude, and is really giving it a good fight. She is able to walk a block in her neighborhood at present. But she says the hardest thing right now is the fatigue she feels. She's always been very active, was a runner when she was younger. So, that part is really hard to take.
So, thanks for your kind thoughts and prayers. I had a safe trip out there, and my other sister and brother did too. The four of us enjoyed being together.
Hope you are doing well. And quilting, or just sewing up a storm!

Hello Kathy Marie,
Thanks for the kind words and prayers. Looks like our plans to see our sister will be in early May. Not too far away. And right now, she sounds good on the phone. So, hopefully, the chemo will do some good.
Gonna make me a nice tote bag to carry "stuff" on the plane. And something nice for her too.

Hello there Kathy Marie,
Thank you for thinking of me. Right now, "life" has gotten in the way of things. Just found out my sister has been diagnosed with acute leukemia, and doesn't have much time left on this earth. My other sister, and my brother and I will be going to CA in early May to visit with her. Never had to deal with this type of situation before.......no cancer in our family. Mostly heart attacks that hit, and that's the end of that! None of this lingering illnesses.........oh my.
Glad to know how busy you are with your sewing. Sew up a seam or two for me too, okay?

Hi Kathy Marie- Thanks for the comment. Sounds like you are an active quilter. I liked your quilts, too. I'm trying out a rag quilt that is very bright and liked yours. I'm still in the 'easy quilt' area - someday I may get brave and try something more intense, but I like quick and easy for now. I love to work machine embrodey and also panels. Have a great day.-Barb S.
