Spring is on it's way!

Posted on March 9, 2009 at 6:39pm 2 Comments

It's Monday night, and I can't believe that this past weekend we had beautiful weather here in central Ohio. The sun was shining, it was breezy, and most importantly it was warm! I had the doors open to air out the house both Sat & Sun. The dogs were outside most of both days as well, enjoying the warm and checking out their yard. I noticed several flowers peaking through the flower beds, and that made me feel like yes indeed, spring might be here some day soon.

I haven't been on here… Continue

Happy Fat Tuesday!!!

Posted on February 24, 2009 at 1:01pm 2 Comments

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone! Lent begins tomorrow, today is the day we're supposed to indulge. Sounds good to me, except I just got off work, and I have to go to school. Not sure when I'm find time for indulgence, but perhaps my quick peak here could be considered one.

My friend that lives in Shreveport tells me the banks are closed down there today in celebration, and half the offices are closed. Sounds good to me. We need a little more celebration around here, and less of this dreary… Continue

Fabric arrived!

I came home today and the kits I ordered from CT were here. What a pleasant, and fast, surprise! I just ordered them on Saturday! I was thrilled to see them, and even more thrilled when I opened the box. The fabrics are just gorgeous, the pictures on the web just don't do them justice. I ordered the Jacobean Nine Patch and Root of the Madder table runner. So guess what I'll be doing this weekend? I shouldn't worry about that studying thing right? I mean, midterms are over, and finals are still… Continue

Happy V-day!

Happy Valentine's day to all my quilting friends. My daughter sent me 100 pink & red carnations. She knows those are my favorite flowers. Isn't that sweet of her? I've got some good kids.

I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since I wrote on here. Since that time we've had snow, ice, snow, below zero temps, temps in the 50's, sun, high winds, electrical outages, and now we're back to cold and gray. Always changing here in Ohio!

My midterms went well, and I'm treating myself to some… Continue

What a Start to Sunday

Posted on February 1, 2009 at 7:23am 7 Comments

Dear Quilting Friends....my day started with a most disturbing event. I insisted that the dogs let me sleep in, which meant I didn't get out of bed until around 7:45. When I walked into the kitchen I heard a noise that sounded like rain, how odd thought I. It can't be raining. I looked out the window to verify that indeed the side yard was still covered in layers of snow and ice, although the sun was shining. Perhaps it's ice melting...but no....I opened the door that leads from the kitchen to… Continue

Kelly - to use the twister rulers you sew blocks - like charm squares - together in rows, like you are making a quilt top and then use the markings on the ruller to cut the top apart in squares at an angle and sew them back together. There are two sizes and the set I bought has both. Here's a link so you can see how the project looks when done. http://www.heartlighthouse.com/product.aspx?prodid=679&catid=691
I haven't tried yet but it looks like fun.

Kelly, I was looking at Carol's page and saw that you said you bought a Fun and Done template and pattern. I have the template and 3 patterns. I bought them with my quilt group last Feb. and did one of the patterns. They really are fun and then done very quickly. I just made a small mat but I should post a picture of it. I think you will enjoy doing the pattern. I have a couple more patterns I intend to do "someday"....along with all my other someday projects. I'm so glad we got some pictures with you in them this year and we got to spend a little more time with you. Next year everyone will have to stay longer; I usually stay 2-3 days and take classes.

Kelly I did buy a few things -- an Advent calendar kit, the Twister and Little Twister rulers to do the Easy Pinwheels, and a tri-fold display stand and a pattern to go with it. Kathy bought the same stand and a Christmas pattern; my pattern is pumpkins and fall so maybe we'll swap some time. We looked at the quilts first so I think I got to see them all -- pretty amazing!!! I didn't spend much time in some of the vendors as my bus was leaving at 4 but that's probably OK. Having lots of time in the vendors could be dangerous. Those that took classes seemed to think they were very worthwhile so maybe next time......

It was a really fun day! I was there from about 9:30 to 4:00 and you are on a time schedule when you are with a bus group. But it is so convenient; no worry about traffic, parking, etc. and the quilt shop who sponsors the trip gives out so many great prizes on the way down (of course I didn't win a doggone thing!). But it would be nice to stay longer and maybe take a class -- I'll have to think on that for next year.

Looking forward to meeting again on the 18th. Kathy suggeted we all meet up outside the entrance door (in that big lobby area across from the check-in booth) at 10 and decide from there who wants to meet again for lunch? Some will be with friends and family and may have their own plans but at least we can say hello and take a group picture. See you then!
