Long Time Gone

Posted on May 9, 2010 at 6:20pm 6 Comments

Happy Mother's Day to all! How is everyone? I feel like I've fallen off of the face of the earth, it's been so long. I am getting ready to put my quilt frame together. Actually, I need to stain it first, THEN put it together. Once this is done I plan on putting my husbands quilt on it and FINISHING it! Started it 3 years ago today! It's time to get it finished! If anyone has had any experience in putting a Grace Frame together, I'm all ears. I will certainly dedicate a day to this task.

We live about 20 minutes east of the Delaware Water Gap which is beautiful. We're actually in the Kittitinny Moutains which is the northern-most tip of the Blue Ridge Mtns. We haven't locked our door in 30 years, but with the economy and the area being more built up, we do now! One of our former governors said that Sussex and Warren Counties are the best kept secret on the east coast, but I guess the secret's out! I'm with you on taking care of the environment - I'm a landscape designer and I specialize in Bird, butterfly and pollinator-friendly gardens. I also use native plants whenever I can. Unfortunately with the building up of this region, the deer population has become a real problem. It's a downer to have to sitck to a few plants to keep them from being munched! Even if they don't like it, but the time 5 or 6 of them try the shrub, it's gone! Our latest challenge is black bear. We live near quite a few rivers and very extensive wildlife preserves, so they come calling from April 1 to Dec 1 when they go into hibernation. It's become such a problem that its now a $1,000 fine if you're caught feeding them. That includes bird feeders and garbage cans. I guess when the "city folk" migrated west, they wanted a rural area except when it comes to your door! This winter, the females haven't been hibernating much (maybe due to the lowarm weather we've been having). No climate change...right!! Enough of my rant - I'll push my soapbox back under the table. LOL

Hi Kristen, quilters all seem to gravitate toward dogs and cats. The dog is actually our grandpooch - my DS had to move and couldn't find a place he could afford that would take pets, so he shipped the dog from Indiana to NJ - that was about 2 yrs ago, so I guess he's a keeper. Just glad we were able to take him - the dog's about 10-1/2 with some questionable habit (he "gets back at us" for leaving him by going on the rug if we leave him out or going in his crate - I know they're not supposed to do that, but he does) so I think he might be abused if someone who didn't know him. We live in the NW corner of NJ by the Delaware Water Gap where NJ, PA and NY come together. It's beautiful, mountainous and we love it-been in the same hosue for 35 years. Yes we are happy, better than average health, 2 sons and a beautiful new DGD. I love the pics of your preserves, pets and horses. I used to ride, but haven't in many, many years.

Hello everyone! I hope that everyone has had a blessed Christmas, we're almost into the new year! I don't know about everyone else, but the time just seems to be FLYING by. Where does it go............. I am working myself up to commiting to finishing my husbands quilt, hopefully by August so that I can enter it in the fair. It'll be THREE years since starting it, this May, I must finish it so that I can start a new project. It may be safe to say that we've all had a project like this and once it's done, we can say we've accomplished something, don't have to do it again. The quilt is king-size, (Mr. Magoo, my cat, is sleeping on it in while it's in the quilt frame, in my photos, green and magenta colors) and I'm about a third of the way quilting it. Yeah!

Thanks Kris for the wonderful compliments. Hope you have a great day and don't worry about getting back to messages. As long as you are doing what you enjoy and check in once in awhile so we know you are okay, that is great!!
