About Me
I'm very blessed to work with a bunch of wonderfully creative and fun people here at Connecting Threads. As a Production Designer, I design and write some of the quilt patterns you see in our catalog, along with a couple of other very talented women. One of whom, happens to be my mom, Darlene. She is definitely the reason I love quilting. I grew up watching my mom sew everything under the sun, and I am still learning more from her all the time. After spending almost two decades as a tole paint-aholic and quilting on the side, I finally crossed over, and I've been an avid quilter for about 6 years. I feel pretty lucky that I get to do what I love for my day job.
I am also the happy mom of four growing boys, and have an amazing husband who tolerates and even encourages all my creative endeavors. (He doesn't ever complain when I come home from the quilt shop with even MORE fabric!) I'm a lucky girl!
Hobbies and Interests

So much for my sewing binge

I really had the best of intentions this weekend. I picked out a really cute fall tabletopper pattern from an old Heather Mulder Peterson book, laid out all my fabric and began cutting. Then my DH went out and picked the rest of the apples off our tree, came in with three buckets and said "What are we going to do with all of these, Hon?" You see, I'd already canned 47 jars of applesauce from said tree two weeks ago. Not to mention the 38 jars of peaches and 34 jars of pears I've also bottled up… Continue

Oh whatever shall I quilt?

The kids are back in school, and I've finally put the house back together. I even finished up another old UFO! (Yay me!) So now I'm itching to make something NEW. I'm sitting here staring at the Hearth and Home FQ samper fabric I bought, wondering what I can make that I can get done in a weekend, so it doesn't turn into yet another UFO. Hmmm....maybe a table topper? Just imagining the possibilities makes me almost giddy! I know once I get started on whatever it is, my family won't get dinner for… Continue

Kristin Sews Karen's UFO

As some of you know, Karen, our fearless and fabulous VP here at Connecting Threads, hosts our online UFO group. Over the past few months Karen has been tackling all her much beloved unfinished projects and putting the rest of us at CT to shame. However, she also has had a few UFO's that she doesn't love quite so much. A few of them ended up in our free box at work. Since I mostly work from home, I'm usually not privy to all the goodies that end up in there, which means that by the time I dig th… Continue

Confessions of a Quiltaholic

So, since I don't already have nearly enough ufo's I've decided I HAVE to make yet another sampler quilt! While at my quilt group, I saw a GORGEOUS sampler quilt by Fons and Porter, which our fearless leader, Barbara Perkins, is going to make with a bunch of our other quilting friends. She invited me to join in, and when I saw the photo, I decided I HAD to have it! Hmmm...two quilt groups is really not much, is it? Personally, I think that's rather modest. Oh, but I forgot to count the Southern… Continue

Creating UFO's

After a wonderfully lazy weekend with my family, I'm back into the swing of things. I have so far managed not to catch my husband's cold (knock on wood). I'm now trying to finish up a few design projects for CT. I love designing new quilts and I get truly excited everytime I see a new fabric collection that's been designed by our fabulous fabric designers! We have a couple of new collections coming out soon that I'm especially drooling over, and I can't wait for them to get printed! Guess where… Continue

Oh Kristin, I was happy to hear from you until you said to stay out of trouble! If I can't be in trouble, what will I do? lol. I am glad you are back from hiding out. Yes, I love your designs, and Darlene's too. Maybe we are related. You could be my cousin! My brain has been thinking about the Southern Stars quilt, I want it to be king size, and I have been thinking about how to make it bigger. There just may be a designer in me!
Hoppy quilting!

That sounds good. Just in case I miss it, can you let me know when it's for sale again?

Thanks,

Kristin,
I just saw your 'One fish, two fish' quilt. Why is it that I love all your designs? I was thinking, you can just put all of your designs in my basket and then send them to me. Then I will be happy with my purchase, and surprised too! When are you going to design a froggie quilt? I need that. Keep up the great designing!
Happy quilting!

Kristin,
How much vacation do you get every year? I think I am working at the wrong place. I don't even get to play with fabric at work. Now I am seriously depressed. I have to go place a $50.00 order at CT and get free shipping....
Happy quilting!

Hey Kristin, I just received an e mail from CT, and there you were, talking about the 'I Believe' book. That book looks like you could have written it. It just looks like your kind of projects. So, now I have to buy the book, and the Twilight fabric. Do you get a commission there? You should, because I bet I have bought $200.00 of stuff from CT just because of you. You are my latest enabler. That's OK, because I love it. It's fun.
Happy quilting!

I have completed this quilt! Love how it turned out. Now to get it quilted, that may take a little longer for me.
I just realized that Darlene is your Mom. I've signed up for her sew-along too!
You learned from the best! Enjoyed sewing along on the Southern Stars, and now I'm looking forward to your Mom's group. Thanks so much for the daily inspiration!

Thanks, Kristin. Did you notice the fabric I am using is the CT Irrestible Indigo 2 and 3? I love those fabrics. These blocks have been difficult for me, this has stretched my abilities more than any quilt I have ever done. Thanks to you! I don't think I would have attempted it on my own, but with the group and all the encouragement, I just jumped right in! What project will you have us do next?
I think you are right, I will take the quilt to a local expert to see what they say. I would hate to ruin it, I would rather leave it as a quilt top only than mess it up. Plus, like you said, the time it would take to hand quilt, and the wear on my poor hands would be no fun at all. I will check into a local expert and let you know what they say.
Happy quilting!

Kristin,
I have posted a picture of a quilt top on my page. My wonderful sis-in-law gave it to me the other day, she said their great-grandmother made it. We figured it must be at least sixty years old. My question is- how do I quilt it? I don't do much hand quilting, but I think that would be the best. Do you know where and how I should start? I don't want to mess up this family treasure!
Happy quilting!

Hi Kristin, thank you so much for your compliment on my Southern Stars quilt. Yes it was me that started the conversation about doing my southern stars quilt in Civil War Prints. I love them!! I went today to a little shop in Lebanon, TN and bought quite a few 1/2 yard prints in Civil War, to do a Bonnie Blue Pattern. I think they make up such beautiful quilts. I have learned a lot being in the SS group and seeing all of the fabric styles different ones are making their quilts out of. I love them all. This has been so much fun!! I can't wait to see yours. Blessings to you.............Linda
