About Me
My name is Laura and I am a Christian wife and mother who loves the Lord with all her heart and thanks him daily for the many blessings he has given me. My DH, Skippy and I have 3 BEAUTIFUL children. Goose 21, Bean 19, and Kiddo, 13. We live in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where everyday we are amazed at the AWESOME wonder of this beautiful world that God has created for all of us!
I love to cook, embroider, sew, strip quilt, read, and to garden. My mother sewed almost all her life and she tried for YEARS to get me to learn how to sew but I never had an interest in it. She always said, "You can do it, Laura....it's not brain surgery you know?" ROFLOL! Oh, how I now wish I had taken the time to sit with her and learn from the best teacher I could have had. I love you and miss you, Mom!
I have made many throws and strip quilts for other people, but have never made a "pieced" one for myself. I really want to make one but am not sure what would be a good first one to try. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would GREATLY appreciated ANY and ALL assistance!
Thank you and have a BLESSED day!
Laura

Here is a picture of the hand embroidered, tea stained throw that I made for my daughter, Bean for Christmas. She LOVED her gift! :D Bean loves country/primitive just like her mom. YAY!! At least ONE of my daughters took after me! ROFLOL!
Hi Laura,
I'm tickled that you enjoyed my blog. Please feel free to add a link to your blog for the lime-ade socks. :.) I look forward to hearing all about your lime-ade socks....and seeing pictures, too. :.)
Congratulations on surviving the weddings. Did you make their dresses or just handled all the planning?
I've been doing a lot of shopping more than sewing. I know I should start small with pot holders, but I often put the cart before the horse (thus 3 machines later and just recently found a way to sew a straight line). I'd like to make something that incorporates machine embroideries in the blocks. (I hope that doesn't disqualify me as a quilter) My goal is to be able to make twin sized quilts for family and friends for Christmas. What is the "average" time for that sized quilt? I'd like to use either the card trick or square in square. What size squares are commonly used?
Thank you for sharing your pictures of all the wonderful items. I'm hoping you'd be willing to share some of your experience with me. I too lost my mom who was a sewer. And you're right, now that she's gone, I'd wished I'd learned from her too. It seems no one really teaches the basics with patience. Hopefully we'll be able to chat and learn from each other. Hope to hear from you soon - God Bless Toshi
Thank you for your kind words Laura and all the fun info, especially about your sister. It must be such a "sister" thing. I did have a sister, but I was 4 years old when my sister at 13 became very ill and passed away. So I never got the chance to really know her, but it's my understanding that she thought I was pretty special. I always missed having the bond that sisters usual do. I did have two brothers (20 yrs apart). Yes, my parents had us years apart........
Talk again soon.

Significant Other stands for the man in your (my) life, you and he are living together, but not married. We were both married before and have grown children. We are committed to one another, but don't wish to marry again. This way we are each responsible for our own bills, etc. we have been together for over 20 years now....................
We each have three children, 2 boys and 1 girl. His girl is the youngest and my girl is in the middle. Each of his kids have two children. One son has a boy and a girl, the other son has two boys and the daughter has two daughters of her own. My one son has a boy and a girl, my daughter has a daughter and my other son has a daughter. Then we have some granddaughters by (proxy), three others to be on the dot. So you see we do have quite the "investment"! I do understand not wanting to say some things on the internet, my SO doesn't really like me making so many friends on line. It worries him so. Well, if we can't do it on a quilting then there really is something very wrong with this world. I do think we have a lot of good people out there and I really enjoy this site!!

Hi Laura,
Thank you so much for your kind comments ... I couldn't imagine that grandchildren could be so much fun and how intense my love for them would be. My husband and I vacationed in your area a fews years ago. We drove down the east coast to Virginia Beach, then onto Charlottesville, then to Skyline Drive. We spend a week in the mountains driving all along the Drive and then into the towns in the valley. I remember one of our favorite spots to eat was Diana's Diner in LuRay (sp?). We stumbled upon it one evening, and enjoyed it so much we just kept going back. You live in an absolutely beautiful part of the country.
Hi Laura, there is a picture of that first quilt on my blog page. Actually there is two, one is a closer view of the block itself. The quilt is actually wearing out so I debating whether or not to try and do some repairs to it. It definitely needs to be rebound.
I went to quilters cache and printed off one of her paper patterns and took some icky fabric and practiced with it. I kept doing it until I was comfortable and than used the blocks and made dog quilts for our dogs. They did not care that the fabric was ugly nor that not all the blocks were the same. :0) Have a great day Lori
