About Me
I'm married, have three daughters, a grandson, a granddaughter, and a grandson. I love reading, just finished my first applique quilt, belong to quilt forum, and I work in a bank as a personal banker.

I've started my first quilt about 25 years ago, made one christmas tree skirt and tote bags for my sisters. Then I was raising my girls and that went on hold until my daughter was having my first grandson 5 years ago and now I can't seem to stop quilting. I guess I'm making up for lost time.

A Yankee Girl Moves South

Posted on June 3, 2013 at 10:15am 6 Comments

A lot has happened since I've last posted, but I have kept up reading QWS blogs.  My DH and I have moved to Florida this May.  We figured it was the right time for us.  My DH has trouble with walking in ice and snow.

We haven't moved into our house yet because the closing date isn't until July, but we had to get out of our house and we moved in with DHs sister.  Now we are looking for jobs here.  I've got an interview on Wednesday and…

Las Crusces, New Mexico

I needed to go somewhere warm, so I went to see my sister last week .  Her living room window faces the Organ Mountains.  I've always would go there during the spring or summer, it was different seeing the terrrain in the winter months.  It felt so good being in the sun.  A jacket would be needed in the morning, but by 10:30 the jacket would need to come off.  We had stayed at the Drury Inn and Suites.  This was the first time I stayed there and I would recommend going there.  I hated to leave… Continue

Pierogie Day

Posted on November 16, 2010 at 8:27am 7 Comments

Every year my dd's and I make pierogies for Christmas. We made cheese, potato, and sauerkraut, we made about 6 dozen of each. I always prepare the fillings the day before and the house smelled great. This day has always been a fun day and wine is always part of pierogi day. We start out early on a Saturday morning and we finish around 3-4pm. This year one of my sil's decided to join us. The hardest part of making pierogies is the pinching. My sil got the hang of it really well. I start out… Continue

thanks for sharing the paper pieced tulips pattern with me.  I'm going to check into ordering it and hope to be able to work on it a year from now to chase the winter blues away (wish I had time to do it this year, but I already have a pile of things waiting to be started and/or finished).

Thanks again!

Hey, Lill,
Mom reminded me that it's cabbage and mushroom filling. Here's the recipe:

Mushroom and Cabbage Pierogi Filling
1 head cabbage
2 4" Portabello mushroom
1/2 lb. white mushrooms
8 tablespoons butter
Salt and pepper

Cut cabbage in half, remove core and finely shred. Place cabbage in a four quart pot, add water and salt, bring to boil and cook until done. Drain and cool. Squeeze cabbage until almost dry and chop fine. Finely chop mushrooms.
Melt butter in a large skillet, adding mushrooms and cabbage, cook over medium low heat until butter is absorbed.
Cool before using as filling.

Thank you for the birthday wishes, Lill--I am having a lovely day! My DD is still home for fall break, and I'm listening to her working on the piano while I sew and check out QWU. To answer your question, I hand quilt everything. It's the part of quilt making I enjoy most. If you are interested in learning more about hand quilting, you might want to join the Around the Frame group on this site--I've learned so much from the ladies in the group. And it's encouraging b/c only a couple of ladies in my guild hand quilt. The others think I'm crazy--but I'm not in a hurry. In fact, I couldn't afford to quilt if I finished quilts as quickly as they do!
