About Me
I have been quilting about ten years now, and sewing since I was five. That's a lot longer than ten years! I love batiks, and also am working on a civil war era quilt using reproduction fabrics. I have been married for 35 years, my husband has become my quilting enabler. He buys me fabric, and doesn't say anything when I come home with more. We have two beautiful daughters, and two wonderful grandsons. They all try to keep me in line. So did my friend from work, Karen, when we went on a trip to San Francisco, and visited Alcatraz. Notice she tried sticking me in the jail cell. Well, I am not going to say what Karen did in the cell.
Hobbies and Interests
quilting, applique, machine quilting
My Pets
Grandpets Big Boy the Cat, and Mella the Dog.
I thought I should update this since I am no longer in quilter's prison. Plus my grandpet Mella has gone to doggie heaven. He was a good doggie. I have now been married almost 37 years, and DH still is my quilting enabler. This year, I have made tons of friends since joining Quilt with Us, seen tons of gorgeous quilts, made a trip to Des Moines to the quilt show with my SIL, and met about 20 online friends in person. That was such a kick! Oh yeah, and somehow I have turned into a froggie instead of a prisoner. And gone a bit nuttier, I think.

Quilting in Oklahoma

Hey, any other Okies out there? I just signed up for the block of the month and can't wait to get my pattern! I have been quilting about ten years now, and sewing since I was five. We would sit on the porch making clothes for our Barbies out of scraps. I love a wide variety of fabrics-batiks, Civil War, I even got some funky 70's prints on a recent trip to San Francisco. They had some great fabrics. Now I just need for that fabric to talk to me so I can start working on it. Oh well, I have plent… Continue

I would love to meet you in Tulsa sometime. That sounds like a lot of fun. I don't mind moving since the company does it for the most part. Thank you for the compliments! I get more fabric every time I leave the house I swear lol I really love the civil war fabrics and have gotten so many this year. I think I have enough to do a dozen samplers lol I wanna do one more in pretty colors....jewel tones etc. My DD wants it now that I mentioned it to her! ;0) I don't think I will ever get a quilt of my very own ha ha ha

Linda,
You got some great pictures there. Is that the first time you have ever been to Iowa?? Are the pictures of the stairwell from the Fons and Porter Bldg??
Where are the water pics from?? Your sis in law is so nice and a good sport to come along with all of us wild quilters. I just know she will turn out to be one of us before all is said and done. Glad you liked my quilt at the show. That is the first time I have put one of mine up for display. Kinda fun. Now its on the bed in the spare room. I really like it.
So glad to get to meet you, hope we can all get together again soon. Rhonda

Thanks for sharing the fruit ladies quilt. I love the blocks for the border. this fabric is so much fun! I am making postcards from the border of the panel for two of my friends. They will crack up when they see this fabric.

Hey Linda, I just want to remind you that if you haven't already, try to write down as much as you know about the quilt and the maker's family and history of the quilt and your connection to the her . I have a journal named Quilts of the Miller Family, and I document the quilts I have made and who they were given to, why and when. And I include a picture of the quilt and some indication on the quilt that ties it to the journal notes.
I do it because the kids are always asking who or where a quilt may wander. They will end up with the ones I end up keeping. Later

Hi Linda
I totally understand, I would also be very cautious about sending out a heirloom. I do hand quilt so for me it would be no problem doing it myself. But, don't think I could let just anyone have possession of my precious belonging. You may want to just put a backing on it and tack it in place and roll it up to put away. Myself, if I didn't hand quilt, I think I would attach the backing with basting stitches and lay it across the foot of my bed, or put it in one of the closed quilt cases we can see these days. Then you are able to enjoy it with out jeopardizing it. I guess I see your point more and more as I am writing this. I am glad you are careful.
God bless you for caring so tenderly for grandmas gift. She is probably glad you got it. Hugs, Susan/IA

I had a quilt hand quilted by ladies in Kalona, IA many years ago. It was a little on the pricey side, but since my mom had made the top for a wedding gift for our middle daughter, I thought it was worth the price. They did a wonderful job including binding the quilt. It was a double wedding ring pattern, using fabrics from our three daughters clothes (I was big into garment construction in those days and made most of their clothes). It is a real keepsake for our daughter now since my mother has passed away (at age 96).

Hi Linda,
As SandyO mentioned there are ladies in Kalona IA that would quilt your quilt for a fee. There is also a nice quilt shop there as well, and thats where I would take it or call there and ask who they would recommend to hand quilt it. Susan/IA

Hey Gov-Your DH will be proud. #3's best friend graduated from Great Lakes yesterday! He and another friend drove to Chicago Friday night to spend the day with him and his family. They called me yesterday so I could talk to him. Basically a good kid, but has had some issues, so I'm sure the Navy will be good for him. He was very homesick the first couple of weeks, but said that he buckled down and made it through. Now off to Mississippi for his training and then I guess on to a ship for a year. I told #3 before he left to be ready for a different kid than the one that left here 8 weeks ago. When my stepson was done with his Air Force basic, he was a totally different kid. Much more focused and polite. Not the little t*#d that left home. LOL Thought I would share that with you. Can't wait to see you in DM!!
