Thank-you all for the warm welcome! I live in the very Northeast corner of Iowa, about 20 miles from the Mississippi . The quilt shop I help out at is only 5 miles from my house. It is called the Forest Mills Quilt Shop. It is also run by two sisters. Country Stitchin' is within 8 miles of my house and Yellow Bird Art is 20 miles away. There are also 3 more great shops within a 35 minute drive. I also have been building my stash for 25 years so I really don't need so many shops so close. But I l… Continue

I always consider it an honor for a request to be someone's friend. Thankyou! it will be a pleasure. The merry-go-round quilt was a lot of fun to do...except for wanting to make the rows straight, then I was really perplexed, my math wasn't working out....until I saw another lady that had posted her photo in a website with straight edges. Wow! let me know if you need her tutorial when you decide on your pattern. Vanda

Thanks for your comments about the Des Moines show. After thinking it through carefully, I've decided not to go this year. It's pretty far, and I would be setting out after teaching all day. It would also involve expenses for two hotel nights, and I would probably be exhausted to start the next week at school. Maybe next year! Thanks for your help, though.

Hey Linda,
I finally found you. When you have time we'll have to hit Forest mills and Country Stitchin'. Hang in there your remodel is almost done.

I love scrap quilts, too. Lately that is mostly what I have been making because of limited funds right now. And that's okay, as it forces me to get creative, use up what I have, and in turn it also clears my mind a bit! I like Kim Diehl's work.

Hi Linda,
I received your request for a friend today! Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I was busy moving everything around in my sewing studio.
My oldest daughter and son in law lived in Iowa City for two years, we had to have driven through your area. They once took us to the Amana Colonies and I absolutely LOVED the quilt shop there! Their collection of batiks was amazing! I also worked in a quilt shop several years ago, part time, and you're right- you're working for fabric! My boss was great! She sends a lot of customers my way for quilting. I love quilt magazines, too! My favorites are American Patchwork & Quilting, McCalls Quilting and For the Love of Quilting. Our guild has a Sharing Table, so we often bring in fabrics, patterns, books, magazines, etc... that we no longer use, and anybody can take them for free!
