About Me
I live in Valparaiso, IN, that's in NW Indiana about an hour and a half from Chicago. We've been here 8 years now. My husband and I have 3 teenage boys, he's a pastor and I am a reading and English as a Second Language tutor in the local public school.
In the summers I teach dog training classes.
Thank goodness for quilting it is about the only "girl thing" I have around here, that and my best girl, Ellie the dog! It's a good life, My man and our "little men" go to a movie on Sundays and leave me alone to quilt.
Quilting and gardening fulfill my creative urges.
Hobbies and Interests

I'm Linda Knol, I'm so happy to find a group of quilters in the Midwest. I'm in Northwest Indiana, and my sister just moved from Seattle to Appleton, WI. We went to a Quilt Shop Hop in Seattle and had an awesome time and are hoping to find something like that maybe in the Chicago area. Does anyone know of any?

and uh, yeah, how about this weather, Cold and snow, cold and snow.... good quilting weather isn't it, I'm hoping for more school snow days since I work at an elementary… Continue

Oops...saw "Day..." and I quit reading. I guess they wouldn't be related!!! I am very good friends with a pastor's wife (her husband had to take medical retirement and then passed away) and I've seen how lives can be lived in a fishbowl...you have my prayers! The interesting thing is that she can't stand to sew, but our friendship has blossomed anyway! (In fact, it is her bed that my quilt picture is of...I made it for her after her husband passed away)

We attend a non-denominational church in Waterloo, IN (about 25 mi. north of us). It is a full-gospel church...New Hope Christian Center...an offshoot of the old Calvary Temple Church in FW. When we moved to FW about a year ago I couldn't stand the thought of giving up our church family so we "commute"! In a town near us we have a Dayspring Community Church...are they all connected?

I thought I left a comment for you but I must have logged off before adding it. What church does your husband pastor? Have you been quilting for a long time?
I know of an awesome shop hop in the fall but it takes place in northeastern IN so that wouldn't help you a lot! There's a big quilt show in Chicago once a year but that's all I know about it!

schools were all closed around here today and most are again for tomorrow - we are supposed to -25 or so for a temperature tonight. Talked to my daughter in IN last night for grandson's birthday but forgot to ask about their school but I think Reese said they had snow. But then as a 9 y/o he was much more concerned with presents. If Amy moves I will definitely miss Shipshewana, but my wallet probably won't. There have to be quilt shops near where she may move.

You must plan a day trip to Shipshewana IL if you have not and visit Lolly's - oh the eye candy. It is one of my favorite shops. My daughter lives just south of Shipshewana so I have left a chunk of change in that shop over the last 15 years. She actually moved there from Appleton but I am not really familiar with shops there, except in Beaver Dam and Sun Prairie - worth checking into. My experience with Chicago shops is to the west so no suggestions there for you as I live in the Quad Cities area near the Mississippi - and am freezing with 6-8 inches of snow and wind blowing it everywhere. They are already canceling school and events for tomorrow due the extreme cold. Me? I think I'll load a quilt on the frame and start quilting.
