Appreciation for Comments and Suggestions/Antiques Quilt Squares

Posted on January 25, 2009 at 1:58pm 1 Comment

Hi everyone! Sorry it took me so long to respond to all the comments and suggestions that I received about my grandmother's antiques quilt squares! They were all appreciated! Since the weather in Florida has been down into the 20's (mornings) and 50's (afternoons) I developed a nasty bug, but today has been a good day and hopefully tomorrow will be better. I'm anxious to sew & quilt! I love the colder weather and we hardly ever get any here. Please, if anymore ideas pop up regarding the… Continue

Beautiful Antique Quilt Squares

Good Morning Everyone!

HELP! I need advise, suggestions, comments, etc. My mother (bless her dear heart) presented me with a bag full of what we thought were scraps of material that was found in the cellar of my grandmother's home. (Father's mother)They turned out to be blocks (nine patch), some hand sewn, others we figure were sewn on my grandmothers treadle sewing machine. Age wise, approx 60-70 years old. My grandmother and her quilting friends even hand embroidered their names in… Continue

Hooked on Quilting!

Posted on January 11, 2009 at 4:02am 2 Comments

Hi everyone - my name is Lisa - I'm a baby when it comes to quilting years - only been doing this for about 5 years, but I am thoroughly hooked. I love to piece quilt tops and see the design unfold. I've been doing the piecing and quilting on my Janome 4800 Memory Craft. Recently a friend received a long arm quilting machine as a gift and I've been able to quilt several crib size and one queen size quilt on it. Oh, boy! Do I want one. I've been looking and wishing for the handi-quilter 16. Does… Continue

You know what's been wrong with my machine lately??? The bobbin! I had gotten my Singer and my Janome bobbins mixed together and truthfully didn't know this would be an issue but apparently it is. I've sewn my first 4 blocks together and hope to have these photos up soon.

How are things going with you?

Hi Lisa,
Thank you so much for checking on me. I have not really had an opportunity to check out some things on my machine. I am now wondering if it could be my bobbin. I think I have put a Singer bobbin in there and not a Janome. I've gotten all of them mixed up, so I bought some Janome bobbins and I'm HOPING I will be able to check this out tomorrow. We do not have soccer practice for the first Saturday in 2 months! YIPPEE!!! I have completed the first 2 blocks on Southern Star, have started on block #3. I've ordered more Civil War fabrics from www.sugarhousequiltshop.com, they are going out of business and have their fabs 50% off. I'm loving working with these Civil War fabrics so I've been building up my stash. My mom and I are going to the Paducah quilt show in a few weeks! I'm so excited. Soccer ends the end of April, so things will slow down around here then.
I'll try to get hubby to post the pictures of my 1st two blocks.
Have a Blessed Easter!

Just a note to say Good Morning and see how your doing? I hope all is well with you?!
I am ok, just busy with babysitting and trying to get a hold on my sinus allergies that have been kicking in on me(stuffy head, sneezing stuff....annoying it is).
But I will be ok.
May you have a fun day today
hugs & prayers Judy

Thank you SO much for all of the suggestions. I haven't broken a needle but will try everything you suggested. I feel like it is something I'm doing or not doing correctly. Wish we lived closer together so you could give me personal lessons on my machine!
Oh I hope you, your daughter and grand sons have a Super, Fantabulous Happy Birthday Celebration at Disney!!!! ENJOY! and thanks again, Lisa.

Hey Lisa,

I have a sewing machine question for you...
Have you ever had your bobbin casing completely wrapped with thread? I'm thinking I may just be loosing my mind. I sat down to sew and it started vibrating, I had to really tug to get my fabric off the machine, there was tons of thread underneath the fabric and the bobbin casing was completely wrapped in thread. I replaced the bobbin and rethreaded the machine and the same thing happened again. I know Jamone is a wonderful machine, I just can't figure out for the life of me what is going on with mine. I'm afraid to try too much or it will end up back in the shop.

Now that I have that off my chest...Hi there! How are you???
Take care,

Hi Lisa,
The repairman told me my zigzag motor bounded. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but it did lock up and wouldn't do a thing. We've been so busy around here, I haven't had a chance to sew since I got it back other than to check it out a bit. I think I almost had the mitered border down but I really haven't had the time to concentrate on it, so my brain just wasn't completely letting go to wrap around it.
I hope all is well with you and yours. Thanks for checking on me.
