Fabric Arrived!

Posted on March 10, 2014 at 1:06pm 7 Comments

The Tropical fabric that I ordered came late last week. I spent yesterday afternoon and today cutting all the fabric for the quilt. I don't know about you, but cutting the fabric is what I like least about quilting. My DH bought me a new cutting table for Christmas, but my back still hurts. The fabric is called Neptune's Garden.

This is going to look great in my new…

Funny how taste changes

Posted on March 4, 2014 at 4:57pm 10 Comments

I moved to Florida 11 months ago. I have noticed that all my quilts which looked so right in New England, look so drab here. I have always liked earthy colors, now all I want to see are brights and batiks, the colors of the sea. I guess tastes change over time. Everyone in my old guild used to tease me about being the Thimbleberries queen. I just ordered fabric with flamingos, sea turtles, and dolphins, to make a Florida quilt. All in pretty bright blues, aquas, greens, and pink. Can't wait…

Looking for other Florida quilters

Posted on February 19, 2014 at 1:12pm 4 Comments

I just rejoined QWU after a 4 year break. Just retired and moved to Florida. Looking for other quilters on the Treasure Coast. Looking for info on guilds and quilt shops in the area. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thank you for the nice comment. I think our quilts reflect where we are. In canada it gets so cold in the winter I need warm colours. In the summer I seem to gravitate to cooler brighter colours. Have fun with your brights and batiks.

Liz, I have had the pattern for several years and always intended to make it.  However, every time I looked at the pattern I thought it would be too hard.  Finally, I just decided to tackle it.  It really isn't that difficult - it is done in strips.  I am pleased with the way it turned out.  Thanks for the comment.

The Kindle cover pattern is from Whistlepig Creek Productions, #1203 E-Cozy E-Reader Cover & Carrying Case.  I got it on line.  There are several different ones available - just Google E-Reader covers.  There may be free ones, but I think I paid around $10-12 for this one.
