hey Loraine!! I with a couple of groups on this site and am just checking out other sites when....surprize...someone that I know. When I left the L2Q group quite a while ago...I lost touch with some people. :( Anyways this group appeals to me because I too love scrap quilts and keep getting bags of scraps from friends and guild members. Do you belong to the FSJ guild? We have a new girl in both our guild and our Seams Like Sunday group (the one you came to) that was from that guild. She got me hooked on doing a project that someone up there did using really small pieces. Very addictive!!! I hope that we get to meet again...and please remember that SLS still meets and if you guys would like to come again...you are more than welcome. Especially if you would like to come to retreat in November.
Hi Lorraine, the smoke is not as bad here today, yesterday it was really smokey and the smell was strong.
Not sure when I will be down next...might need to go visit my cousins soon as I haven't sen them for awhile. I will for sure try to contact you so we can get together.
Thanks so much for the offer
Stan sold the field across from his house (backed onto Grandview bench) and they built a gorgeous log home on it ( 10 acres), we bought from them. So Stan and Anna were my neighbours. Stan passed away a couple of years ago and Collin ( his son ) called to let me know so I could go. Stan and I stayed in touch after I moved away - I had a soft spot for him - he was such a grizzley old guy. He was a very good neighbour when we were beside him - always willing to help or wander over for a chat. Same for everyone we meet there - great people! The neighbours on the other side ( Karen and Herb Barnes) have become my "second parents" and grandparents to my kids.
I recognize the name - Peter Anchikoski - but don't think I knew him. I'm sure Herb does though!
Do you host a sewing group at your house??What kind of crafts do you make for sale. It'd be great to see what you've made. You can post pictures on your page for other's to see. Thee is a group on this site called Gifty Galore ( I think ) anyway... they have tonnes of ideas for crafts.
Yikes..... three surgeries - I'm glad your feeling better now.
I'm off camping today for a week, so if you don't hear back from me that's why.
Your right - it is a small world. I used to live across from Stan Karpowich and beside Anna Phillips on Old Sicamous Rd ( right off of Grandview Bench from the hwy). I just spoke to my neighbor - Karen and Herb Barnes and they remember your Dad.
I love Bonnie Hunter's patterns - I'll have to go look at her website and see which pattern your making. Did you find it in an Australian book - or on her site? She offers so many patterns for free. I really love her Carolina Christmas pattern.
I am steadily working through my UFOs. I joined the UFO group on this site and we pick a UFO to work on weekly - usually Tuesdays and call if TUFO, or if its Wednesday - WUFO! It's fun because we check in with each other for encouragement and to see how our projects are coming. I'm not doing much this summer as the kids are off school and we go camping a lot. I'm heading out tomorrow for a week. We also get a lot of company being in the Okanagan.
I have 3 quilts to sew the bindings down and 3 tops to quilt for others. My sister has made her first quilt and I'm quilting it for her. The other two are for a dear friend who passed away - I'm finishing them for her family. When I get that done, I am hoping to make lap quilts for my inlaws - same fabrics but different patterns. I wanted to finish them for Christmas, but that may be too much with what I have already to do.
Are you getting smoke from the fires up where you are? We are so smokey you can hardly see across the valley. We have an air advisory for people with breathing issues.
Take care and happy sewing. PS - Glad to hear I'm not the only one with multiple projects on the go!
Thanks for the friend request. How long ago did you leave Enderby? I used to live in Grindrod years ago, moved to Salmon Arm and now I'm in Kelowna. Originally I'm from Calgary, but moved to Abbotsford as a teen.
What type of scrap quilt are you making? I'm working on a charm quilt with diamonds used for tumbler (baby) blocks - using English Paper piecing. It's a lot of fun. I wanted a project I could do while we travel in the summer. We spend a lot of time camping.
Are you near any of the fire up north? It's so hot and dry here - there is a new fire every few days. Most are caused by lightening - another one today near Osoyoos, its already 40 hectares.
I'm off to bed, but feel free to chat!
Great Lorraine. Did you realize that we could chat if we are both online at the same time. Down on the bottom right hand corner of your screen you will see a little green dot beside a man when you are logged on. You can click on him and it will turn red if you don't want to chat. If you are on, at the same time as me and you have your volume turned up, it should make a sound if I try to send you a message. We can go private and have a private chat or we can chat with everyone else. We will try it sometime we are both online. You are offline right now.
