About Me
I have been pieceing/quilting for about 5 years now and still consider myself a newbie. I guess I always will because I am always learning new things. Since joining this site, I have learned to make quilt post cards and a new, easier TAW pattern.

I hope to get pics of all of my completed projects because now I realize I've done more than I thought. The sad part is that some of my quilts were given away without pics being taken. I have found that it is a challenge to get the recipients to take pics to send to me so wish me luck!

Thank you so much!

I've been touched by the encouragement, prayers and suggestions and they are certainly appreciated. I hope to answer all of you but just in case I can't do it soon, I just wanted you acknowledge you.

I'm making a list and preparing for my down time and trying to get as much done without hurting myself before the surgeries. I have a feeling I'll be catching up on movies during my downtime. :)

Looking on the bright side and being thankful

I'm facing the inevitable carpel tunnel release surgery that many quilters experience in mid-November and a hysterectomy in early December. Although I'm not looking forward to these surgeries, I'm very thankful that I have health insurance. I hope that I never experience the mental anguish that many suffer when faced with the need to have surgery and not be able to have it done.

I won't be able to sew for several weeks following the surgeries and won't regain my strength for several months but… Continue

Just wondering what you think: Starch or Sizing Spray? Steam or Not?

I have used both starch and sizing spray but I heard that if you use starch then your fabric attracts bugs. I've never seen bugs in my sewing room or on my quilts so I'm just curious how many people have heard this rumor.

I lean towards using steam when pressing large pieces before I cut but then use no steam on small or sewn pieces. I loved using steam until I stretched some pieces wonky then I had to rethink my practices.

Bindings - Love em or Hate em...we can't live without them so....

I have learned to like doing binding because I learned the Elmer's glue technique from Sharon Schamber's free YouTube video (I hope I spelled her name right) and it has made my life easier. The video is easily found by going to YouTube then typing in Binding the Angel.

I was curious how many quilters actually enjoy the binding process or despise it and what kind of different techniques are out there?

Road to California

I have signed up for a class in the upcoming convention in Southern California next January. I'm curious if anyone else will be attending or if they have attended before.

Husband's comment on hand sewn verus machine sewn is, "it's not that important." So I do what I want.

What is the Elmer's Glue method? I don't mind doing bindings and I have finally learned how to finish the ends with a 45 degree cut sewn edge. When I'm binding for the foster kid guilts, I machine sew down the edges - otherwise I like to hand sew the turned edge on the back. (That drives my husband nuts, I don't know why but it does.)

Hi Connie, Sorry to hear about your MIL, but I'm sure she is proud that you are carrying on the quilting "bug." I also have a special relationship with my MIL and she taught me how to filet crochet and is one of my biggest fans as I am hers. :)

Yes, this site is fabulous and by far the best for meeting quilting buddies. The ladies I have met along the way have been inspirational and always give such kind words and encouragement.

Best to you and Happy 4th!

Hi, My MIL has been quilting for years...she has recently kinda gone down hill and not quilting anymore. That is how I got the scraps. I really like everyone here. So helpful when I have elementary questions!

Yes, I found it so it made it easy to locate it on Amazon, but only used books are available on that site. I'd prefer to purchase a new book stateside so maybe I can find a book with the name of the pattern. Wish me luck. :)

In the book that I used, "Making Scrap Quilts To Use It Up", It was called simply "Split Nine Patch Quilt". Were you able to find the book on the David & Charles web site? You would at least be able to see what the cover of the book looks like there.

The pattern for my scrap quilt came from a book called "Making Scrap Quilts to Use It Up" by Lynne Edwards. It's an arrangement of split 9 patch blocks. www.davidandcharles.co.uk is the web site. I had some trouble with putting that in my address line, but when I put "david and charles" in the search engine, I found the site easily.
