I started quilting in 1994. Winters in Alaska are cold and dark, so quilting brought much needed color and purpose to my life. I'm usually outside in the summer - gardening, fishing, and just enjoying the beautiful landscape. I'm married (29 yrs) to a wonderful man - a construction worker/hunter/fisherman which, in Alaska, means he's away from home a good bit. Quilting is a good fill-in for those times. I have a grown son, 3 grown step-children, and 5 grandchildren, all of whom have quilts. :-) I prefer to stick to one quilt project at a time, but often have the next one in the design stage before I've finished the current project.

Hi Marcia, We traveled to Alaska a couple years ago
.My brother had lived there several years(kenai) He sold his home now and they will live in a cabin up by Denali in summer and in Thomasville,Georgia in winter. The blocks are the Sylvia's bridal sampler blocks. There are 232 people signed in for them. I have 20 out of 140 done. I am a little behind.
Thanks for writing. I did doll clothes years ago at craft shows/festivals. Sometimes I was successful, sometimes I didn't even break even with the booth fee. This time around, I've set up a legitimate business with the state and am selling by private orders and also bringing my things to merchants on a commission basis. Right now, several places have my items. I am waiting anxiously for that first check to come in!
Hope you can get some good ideas and plans together from our business group. Let us know how you're doing!
Hello Marcia,
A friend from here whom I met this summer on an Alaskan Cruise she took that put her across the river from me in Copper Center at a princess hotel told me about this group and I see you are the only one so far that actually lives here besides myself now. I read your info and your life sounds a lot like mine. I see from you photos that you are quite the accomplished quilter and I can really appreciate that! Do you have a long arm? I quilt alot of my smaller stuff and plan to tackle a lap size soon but I don't have a long arm. Our local long arm quilter is leaving the state and we are quite sad about that. I would love to have a set up but would love to go to a quilt show somewhere and try them before making big investment...ah well. Nice to 'meet' you. The gal I met, Deborah Calyo' became a friend on this site and then we met when she came up on a cruise so I posted that on my site and also on Hearts & Faces group.

Thanks Marcia....I do enjoy quilting alot...im working on one now...its called Pink Lemonade....when its done I will post it....alot of my quilts are not quilted YET...some of them are tho
Thanks Marcia. I made the Dancing Leaves (at least started the top) at a weekend quilt retreat. It was fun as we learned some new techniques. The appliqued leaves are padded so they stand up a little and i'd never done that before. Always fun to try something new. Have a Happy Easter!

Hi Marcia. Your star log cabin is going to be lovely. The one I have pictured is actually the second one I did, same size, same fabrics. The first one I quilted deep red in the stars, cream in the creams, and navy in the blue parts. It was beautiful, I was exhausted, and it sold before I even had the binding all the way finished. I made the second so I would have one of my own, and did my usual/favorite allover meander in khaki.
I loved looking at you quilts. Stars are wonderful!
Hi Marcia, Thank you for letting me know about the Christmas tree skirt you made that I like so much. Please email me at ncypat at aol dot com, I have some questions to ask you. Take care and have a great weekend! Nancy
