About Me
I am a very happily married mother of three beautiful daughters; Sarah who is 28 and Kaitlyn and Allison who are 16 year old identical twins. My first sewing was in 6th grade for a Girl Scout merit badge, and I was hooked! I have been quilting for about 15 years, and love it. I also enjoy rubber stamping, scrapbooking, reading and shopping! My addictions other than quilting are jewelry and purses. I "retired" a couple of years ago because of rheumatoid arthritis, so now I can't make excuses for not sitting down to my machine.

In the blink of an eye, life can change.

Well, this is something I never wanted to have to write. I can still hardly believe I have to, but if I don't do it now, I'll attempt to put it off forever. It's sort of like thinking if you ignore a problem long enough, it will go away.

After a hopeful beginning, Sarah's news from Mayo yesterday was not good. But let me say I want to start by thanking God for my daughter! She is alive, healthy and happy; although saddened and shocked as we all are. I still have her here, can put my arms around… Continue

Mayo Clinic, the hospital and tests...OH MY!!!

Sarah made her first visit to the Mayo Clinic yesterday to get new opinions on her vision problems that have resulted from her tumor and brain surgery back in March. Here is what I know so far. She saw Dr. Shelly Cross, in Neurology. Both Sarah and Nate (my SIL) liked her a great deal, felt she had a great bedside manner, was very thorough, etc. She spent hours with them and has Sarah set up for a lot of consults over the next two weeks. So, Sarah will stay here with us (YAY!!!!!!!!!!) until Hal… Continue

Sadness in a Small Town

I know my extended Quilt With Us family are quick to pray when the need arises. Sadly, yesterday there was a tragic accident here in town involving two high school boys, friends of my daughters. One boy, Jacob, a 15 year old freshmen lost his life. CJ, a Senior, is in critical condition at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.

I ask you to remember the family of Jacob Gleason in your prayers as they deal with their tremendous loss and for CJ Shakal, that he has the strength to fight and survive h… Continue

Only in my house...

Time for an update on the latest happenings.

First of all, for those of you wondering, no. Sadly there have been no improvements as of yet in Sarah's vision. We do so appreciate the continued prayers and well-wishes. I am remaining faithful that God has more in store for her. It took over twenty years for the brain tumor to do it's damage and make us aware it was even there. I suppose her healing could easily take way more than the four months it has been since her surgery. She is my inspiratio… Continue

Mounting Frustration

Sarah saw her neurosurgeon today and had her first follow-up MRI. He said she is doing great and that the brain is nearly fully re-expanded. According to him, she is one of his greatest success stories, due to the size of her tumor, that he got it all and how well she has recuperated in terms of her brain health. She can now fly if she would like and color her hair, and does not have to return to him for six months.

He disagrees with the neuro-opthalmologist though, and said he doesn't believe… Continue

Thank you for your comments on my free hand work. That was my first and last. I was told that you keep your machine going fast and your hands going slow. I got so nervous that I just kept the fabric moving was all I could think of then I got kind of trier of doing it but couldn't stop until I had what I needed for the jacket. Then I cut out the pattern for the jacket. I used 100% cotton that I had left over from a quilt. I didn't want to put to much in it just in case it turn out to be a rag for my dust mob. Thanks again, Happy Thanksgiving. I love your work, the purses. WOW. I like every thing! I have a Sun Concur and most of the time he's good. But, he has his days. Then I tell him I could always have Bird Stew. I love him so.. Happy Thanksgiving. Talking about birds....Happy Quilting.

Hi Mary, Thank you for your kind words about the gift bags. They are very cute and easy to make. They are rather small, so I am going to make some larger ones. I made them to give blanket challenge prizes in. I found the pattern at the modabakeshop.com. They are called charmed gift bags. Kit

Hi Mary: So Nice to hear from you. I was born in Alameda which is a farming community in Albuquerque. So, have lived here all my life. I've been doing quilts for my family since I started. I have a neighbor who owns a long arm quilter so I have used hers to quilt most of them as I don't have the room for one. Shes new at long arm quilting too so we just meandered along the quilt, nothing fancy. I met a lady quilting class that has a very extravagant set up with the computerized long arm quilting but she does it as a business. I just made my first rag quilt too. I embroidered the squares and added a cockeyed jeans pocket on one. looks cute. I have a problem getting pictures loaded to send so have to practice on that. The picture next to my name is of my 17 month old grandson in a mariachi costume that I made him for halloween.

Thank you for your words of comfort regarding Brandy. It helps to know others share your pain. It helped a great deal to talk with you. I picked up Brandy's ashes yesterday. The Vet had made a paw print as well as giving me a very nice card. The ashes were put in a very small decorative tin. I opened the tin and just like her there was very little not even a half a cup of them. It's amazing how such a small thing can make such a huge impact on your life. Thanks again for "being there". Love, Cara

Hi Mary. You left a comment on my fabric baskets, thanks so much. Where did you see them? I'm still pretty lost on Quilt with Us, I just uploaded them this morning, do my pictures show up somewhere else other than on my page? Anyway, yes the baskets were quicker with the solid tops and fun to make. The date is wrong on the photo I just made them this spring and your right - thanks for the idea some more made with Christmas fabrics may be in order.

Thanks! The quilting was done on a longarm machine (HQSIXTEEN). I watch all th quilting videos and search quilting pattern books to get ideas. In the beginning I had no idea what to quilt except maybe stipples. I use channel boards for some designs and fill in the background freehand. Anything you can draw or trace you can quilt.
