International Quilt Festival

Posted on November 23, 2012 at 11:51am 9 Comments

My three girlfriends and I have booked a guided tour of Ireland which includes three days at the International Quilt Festival 2013 in Ireland.  We are all so excited and I can hardly wait for June.  I have never been in Europe and one friend and I are looking into staying a few extra days in London.  She has been there a few times and thinks I would love seeing the city.  My relatives on my mom's side came to Canada in 1850; her maiden name was Kirkpatrick so I can officially wear the button…

Return from Sister's, Oregon quilt show

Posted on July 23, 2011 at 9:30am 5 Comments

We have arrived home from our holiday, which included a visit to the 36th annual quilt show in Sister's, Oregon.  The show was fantastic; if you have never gone to it, you need to do so.  My girlfriend and I arrived at 8:30 am and left at 5:30 pm.  We did not get to see all the 1300 quilts on display around town everywhere.  Most businesses had one or two inside and they hung on every building in every spot possible.  Some of the buildings are two storeys high and the quilts were hung way up…

Sister's Oregon Quilt Show

Posted on June 24, 2011 at 12:47pm 7 Comments

My girlfriend and I are going, with our spouses, down the coast of Oregon in July and we are planning on taking in the outdoor quilt show in Sister's.  I was wondering if any of you have been or are planning on going this year?  I have done some research on the net and here from others about the greatness of the show.  Ever since I got started quilting and heard about this show, I have wanted to see it.  I would appreciate any info you can give; is there something I should not miss?  what… Continue

Sport Time Quilt in McCall's contest

Posted on May 3, 2011 at 10:13am 2 Comments

Some time ago I stumbled across a quilt design contest on the McCall's website.  I entered a picture of the sport time quilt I made for my grandson, Kyle, for Christmas 2010.  Surprise, it was accepted.

I invite you to look at My Pictures on this site and see the quilt and go to

to vote for my quilt, Kyle's Sport Time…

Dianne B. and I met for lunch

Posted on May 12, 2010 at 9:21am 15 Comments

It was fun to actually meet someone in person. We live about a two hour drive apart but I go to the city for medical appointments so we have agreed to meet again. I had told her I would have a yellow rose in my hair so here I was sitting in White Spot waving a yellow rose. There were a few funny looks and the waitress thought it was a great way of telling someone who you were. Anyway, Dianne had her little girl with her and my DH and I both agreed she was a cutie. She was a little shy at…

A dear friend of mine her mother had crippling and painful rheumatoid arthritis. It ailed me to see her in such dilemma. But despite all she was able to laugh about it.. Guess some days good some days bad. She loved to knit crochet sew clothes for her children and had to give it up at a very young age. Forced to move to the city in a senior complex where her daughter suffered as well with the aches and pains, of being a home care worker.. Throughout the years I've seen the changes in medical research seing the changes from one generation to another.. But it is hard to accept leaving our love for sew, knit, crafts. As my mom found with her ALS disease. Being able to talk about it  to others who can share is wonderful..

Any pictures of Ireland to share, from 2013 trip.. My mother had dreams of making a mother/daughter to Ireland holiday. She was going to retire from teaching, and I on holiday from police force.. As life has it's twist/turns never saw that day for she passed away to ALS.. I left my workplace.. In 2013 our guild passed around a pamphlet for Ireland quilting cruise. Without the income couldn't make the trip. Cry a little, pray that if meant will happen. Hope to see some photos.

Myrna, I don't know why your machine was set different from factory sets. Mine is at factory sets. You can reset to this my going into Set UP. The Advanced has a factory reset button. Here is what mine reads: X Power: 30, Time Out: 100, Margin: 0 (zero), Acceleration 45, Lead line: 60, Y Power: 30, E Stop: 100, Jump Stitch: 0, Curvature 35, Increment 0.1

Hope this helps

Cynthia

Oh no, Myrna, all I can say is the fate of Traci's quilt is tragic - all that work.....

I only noticed after I posted that the quilt was actually made in 2009.

Myrna, it's so nice to hear a success story like your daughter.  It must have been so hard for her to face having the twins with their father unwilling to help her though it. But thank goodness she had you to come to for help and support.  My sister had the same thing happen to her when she got pregnant many years ago. Mum and Dad was there for her also.

Gorgeous quilts Myrna and beautiful grand daughters- Congratulations to them both on their graduation.

I loved looking at all the diverse techniques you have tried- it is a wonderful body of work. I was thrilled to see the Moon glow quilt. I recently forked over the dough for this kit. I so love the pattern and it is high on my to do list after  I finish some wedding quilts.  Thanks for sharing your gorgeous quilts..

Sorry I haven't responded sooner to your question of fabric pens I used for my "Wayward Fabric" piece. Anyway, I have a set of various colors by "Millinium" and also used the "Pigma Pens" on parts of it. The 'Millinium' ones have a broader tip more along the lines of felt tip markers, but of course made for fabric. Don't remember where I picked them up. I would like to find some more of them as well. As you can see, they work very well.  Have seen some new ones come on the market as more people are into art quilting as well as making and coloring their own labels. Good luck. Love your quilt display. I could sit and watch all the "shows" for hours. What an inspiration to see so many talented ladies work in one place.

I hear a lot of you ladies out there have problems with service close by. I am lucky that way, I have the best guy around. He is the owner of Red Deer Sewing Centre and he has the most awesome service. He will even do house calls if you need. He used to sell that unit with the Qbot but found the Qbot had too many problems with it so he went to the Quilt Artist. Hopefully it isn't too much to fix your problem Myrna.

Hi Myrna,

I noticed on the Longarm Quilters Group that you just purchase the exact same unit as I have. I will get mine on April 25th. How is yours working for you? I noticed that no one had any advise on the group site for you. I would like to keep in touch with you so that we could maybe give each other help or tips when needed. I am from Red Deer, Alberta.

Hi Myrna,

Good to hear from you. Aleda has preschool in the morning, so I'm free for coffee without her until 11:00, and the rest of the day is open. Would love to see you and catch up. Do you want to come to the house for coffee? Could show you my quilt room and projects in the works. Would have to be after lunch if you want to come over as I'll be in town in the AM for Aleda.
