To Applique or not to Applique?

Posted on August 16, 2015 at 11:41pm 7 Comments

I've finally finished the top to my Great-niece's baby quilt.  She's two-months old, but I don't think she will notice I'm a bit late.  The quilt is 54" x 54".  My original plan was to appliqué a pink flower in the lower right-hand corner of the quilt, to add a bit of whimsy to the otherwise monochromatic quilt.  Please look at the pictures below and let me know your opinion.  The flower is going to be simplified if I do it, to have fewer but larger petals and larger bases, so they are…

Nephew's Graduation and Wedding Quilts

Posted on July 12, 2014 at 6:33pm 12 Comments

My nephew graduated from High School 3 years ago and I will give him his graduation quilt Thursday night, the day before he gets married.  The quilt is below.

On Friday, I will give him and his bride their wedding present, which of course is another quilt.  The wedding quilt is below.…

Graduaton Quilt(s)

This is the "Somersault" quilt.

The quilt was made from two Bali Pops.  The back was chosen in under five minutes.  I had to finish the quilt by the weekend and only had one chance to buy the backing fabric.  Entered the quilt store five minutes before closing, chose the fabric, had it cut, paid for it, and was out the door by five after.  I think the backing…

Great Nephew's Baby Quilt

Posted on October 13, 2011 at 1:00am 10 Comments

I made this for my first great nephew. His mom decided to do his nursery with a red accent wall and using planes in honor of her father who died a few years ago, and who was a Life Flight nurse most of the time she was growing up. I made arrangements with Life Flight to take pictures of the plane her dad flew in as a nurse and then used Photo Shop Editor to remove the hanger and other planes before printing the plane on a printable fabric. Since my great nephew is named after his grandfather…

Electric Quilt Question

Posted on March 27, 2011 at 11:35pm 2 Comments

I am trying to design a baby quilt for my great nephew, who is due in one month.  I want to use 6" and 12" blocks, but can't figure out how to add both sizes using electric quilt.  If I set the quilt to 6" finished blocks it won't let me add a 12" that covers where 4 - 6" blocks would be in the quilt.  If this makes any sense, and you can help, I would appreciate it.  Obviously, I have put off making this quilt as long as I can!

I always wash my fabric first before I cut.  Also I found that if I put fray check on the edge of the fabric I don't spend a lot of time de-tangling thread after the cotton fabric is washed.

No, just washed in cold water.   I didn't notice any bleeding.  It came out really good.  This is the second red, black and white quilt I made.  I made my daughter one and just washed the fabric in cold water first also.

Hi Neldon, thanks for the invite. Do you do your own quilting? If so, your very good at it. I can only do stippling/meandering. Sure wish I had a long arm. Your pillows are beautiful. I love making pillows but really got into the quilting more now. Wish that's all I had to do.
Thanks again,
Linda
