About Me
I am a self-taught handquilter who has just started to learn how to sew by machine. It is way easier and faster than piecing by hand!! And machine piecing brought me so many UFO tops that need to be handquilted someday. LOL

10 minutes block question, calling for the math person(*^_^*)

Hi Ladies, long time no see.

Now I am giving it a try on 10 minutes blocks and wondering if the octagons that would be appeared like circles if you turn up the edge of the diamonds like cathedral windows could be the proper octagons.

If I use 10 inch squares for the four, what could be the size of the square for the diamond to make a proper circle?

Please advise,

Well, I am not good at machine sewing so that I hand stitched the black tape all over on this. I enjoyed it a lot, but maybe not again..LOL  This will go to AAQI,too.

This is my recent work that I gave it a try for donating to AAQI.  I hand quilted all over with glow in the dark thread so that I hope it would glow in the dark at night.

Scrappy quilt that turned out decently for the first time...grin...

I gave it a try on this scrappy quilt and the back side is even scrappier as you see.   Since my machine quilting skill needs more practicing, it turned out to be a nice utility quilt that we use at home.

Thanks for looking.…

It has been a long time since I asked you all for an idea for auditioning the borders. But finally its done!!  I could never get the hag of free motion quilting, but it ended up with wonky plaid pattern that I invented!LOL

Hello Petit - It's been a long time since I've seen you on "chat". I wonder if you remember me? I am doing well now - 4 years since diagnosed with breast cancer. How are you? I remember you being so kind to me. I'm still quilting and now belong to a quilt group. We meet once a month. Hope to hear from you soon? Hugs, Becky Carmichael, Jeannette, Pa USA

If you want I can send you a sample sketch of how to make the octagon - send me an email at acastro_jacq@comcast.net, and I'll attach the instructions.

Regards - Aida

Hello, this is in response to your question about making a circle for the 10-minute block.  Using the 10-inch square piece of fabric, draw a circle with a 5-inch radius; this will allow you to use the full 10-inch square.  You can either turn the edges under as in a yo-yo construction, or machine stitch the circle on the main block.  for making a perfect octagon: fold the square fabric first into half, then fold again in half, so that the size is now 5" square; next fold into diagonal, mark the diagonal fold 5" from the center, then cut a straight line from the mark on the diagonal fold to the edge of the 5" fold.  When you open the cut fabric it should be an octagon.

So nice to hear from you.  I would love to meet up with you on chat.  What is the time difference.  Maybe we can make a plan to meet.  I'm glad your busy quilting.

Hi Petit, I haven't seen you in awhile on QWU so thought I would stop by and say hello and that I miss you.  I hope all is well with you and that your busy turning out all kinds of beautiful projects with your sewing machine.  With the time zone difference it hard to catch you on line.

The US Embassy is who we have to satisfy.  We are already Nameer's legal guardians here in Pakistan.  A person from the Embassy came to our home on Friday.  He asked several neighbors about us....all of them were good people and even informed us later of their conversations.  The man again asked so many questions.  Safeer took him to the cemetary and showed him Naeem's grave to prove he is in deed dead.  Then he took him to the hospital to prove Aliya was there with her current husband and the newborn baby.  We hope it's a good sign that they sent a caseworker of their own to verify all the things we told were true.  Dad returned late the same night he went to get the post mortem report and some photos.  We scanned them and emailed them to the Embassy this weekend.  We hope to hear something from them today calling us back to the Embassy.  They do want Aliya to go with us for a better interview, they said it was too noisy in the hospital to have a good discussion....plus she was in so much physical discomfort as you can imagine.  The baby was 4 KG which is about 8.8 pounds.  We are still trying to pick a name lol  Our internet was not connecting for 2 days so hubby had to go to an internet cafe to send the email to the Embassy.  I will keep posting any update as possible.  Love you....thanks so much for all the positive words and prayers!!! xoxox

Well we went to the Embassy without the birth mother.  They seemed annoyed about that but "interviewed" my husband and told me to sit outside.  He told me they treated him more like a criminal in interrogation!!!  They would not have dared talk to me that way!!!  No wonder they wanted me to sit out.  They wanted a post mortem report from the hospital about our dead brother and marriage photos of him and Aliya and her with this new husband and other things that they didn't tell us they wanted any other time.  Dad is going to Peshawar near Afghanistan to visit Aliya's family to get all of those things that they have.  Poor man has worked so hard for us to gather all the things we needed for this process.  God Bless him!!!  The Embassy is supposed to call Monday to see if Aliya is alright to come for an interview then.  She had her baby at noon yesterday (Thursday).  We are 10 hours ahead of US Central time zone if that helps you! ;0)  Baby and mom are fine and healthy and coming home in a few hours.  I have not been able to see him yet, but they say he is an exact duplicate of Nameer!!! lol

I booked a one way flight for the 7th of Aug. today since we don't know how long this will take! I also scheduled my appt. at the US Embassy for the 10th to submit the documents. After that I will need to get a physical exam for Nameer done and then will call DH to come for the interview. I don't know when that will be yet and he needs to stay and get his work done as it's almost harvest time around here! It will be a hard month over there with the heat and the elect. goes out at any time with no warning....which means not even a fan to cool off!!! Oh yeah, and it's fasting time for Ramadan coming up too!!! I am sure emotions will be running high as well. It will be really hard on them when we take him and it will hurt us too but it will all be fine soon. It would be great if our sister has her baby while we are there too! I would love to be there for that! I really hope it's a girl this time so I can get cute girlie clothes!!!
