Love the promise of a New Year!

Posted on December 31, 2013 at 10:20am 3 Comments

I love New Year.  Just the promise of a fresh start is uplifting.  I always believe life will get better and it usually does.  My primary resolution for 2014 is to get my fabric stash organized.  We are setting up IKEA shelving units in what I have dubbed my fabric room.  It's just the back bedroom that could have been a guest room, but no, too much fabric in the house!  My goal for 2013 was to get more involved with my guild and in September I was elected VP Membership for the Coastal…

Summertime Quilt

Posted on August 27, 2013 at 12:42pm 4 Comments

I am entering a small quilt in my guild's challenge for the first time.  It's small as the challenge rules are 20 x 20 or less.  My question....do I add embellishments first, then do the binding.  Or do I bind it and add embellishments after.  The label is on the back and the very last step will be to do a hanging sleeve.  Help !!

I tried to post a photo but it didn't work.  Sorry.......

Countdown to Intl. Quilt Festival

Posted on September 16, 2010 at 6:55am 4 Comments

It's about 6 weeks 'til Quilt Festival here in Houston. I volunteered to work at the American Sewing Guild booth. I will get FREE admittance on the days I work. As of now, it looks like I will be working 2 of the 4 days of Festival. The ASG booth is usually set up in the area of the convention center where the exhibits are located. I should be able to take short breaks and check out the various exhibits there. I'm so excited! I'm planning on staying away from the vendors. I know… Continue

I Opened My Mouth and It Just Came Out!

Yesterday I was mean to my mommie. Do I sound like a 6 yr. old? That's how I felt afterward. My mom was here yesterday with my sis "L" and we were discussing my upcoming move (still in the planning stages). I was talking about all the things I plan to sell or donate before the move. Both of them said "no! give those things to me!" It was like an echo chamber in here. I said "NO, both of you have too much sh_ _ in your homes!" THEN, I felt sorry for what I said so immediately I turned red.… Continue

Hello Rebecca,

Wishing you a happy New Year.  We haven't communicated for a while, but I do read your posts and am glad you are doing well.

I too have retired last year and so I am trying to get my sewing room organized, and try to get rid of fabrics I no longer need.  I have 20+ years of stash to go through and I find it so overwhelming.  I will try and hold a yard sale as soon as the last snow patch leaves the ground, so that should give me at least 5 months cleanup.

I hope you are enjoying yourself, it seems that your move with your son has been a very good one and that you have more room for your quilting hobbies.

Take care and message me back when you can.

Hi Trevi, Thanks for the invite, I am very new to quilting but love it, fortunately I have lots of time to do so.   If you can't see from my email address I live in South Africa and we are having a terribly hot summer.

Hey dear friend,

Glad to know you've move to your new home. It must be really exciting. I went back to work yesterday, but now I'm on the 'bench' and my boss tells me I should take some self-study courses online. I don't mind studying, but she didn't tell me what courses I should take. And she hasn't been returning my phone calls nor e-mails.

Take care - Aida
