I have good news to share

Posted on July 15, 2009 at 3:55pm 19 Comments

This won't mean much to most of you out there but I just have to share this and since I'm rather isolated from family and friends I choose the next best thing by reaching out to all of you.

My oldest son called me yesterday with the news that he's engaged. Now, that might not seem like a big deal but for him it's enormous. His life has been a long journey of challenges, heartbreak, tragedies, missteps and mistakes and at times I've been the only one in his corner.

I've heard it said… Continue

Quilting Incognito

Hey everybody!

I haven't been here in awhile so I don't even know if this has already been discussed but since I just got my issue of Quilters Home Magazine out of the mailbox I'm going to assume it hasn't.

For some reason this really hit my funnybone.

In the new issue there is an article called Quilting Incognito and at the side he lists Quilt Diva names. As I read through the list lo and behold I found mine. I am Tara Seamout.

I don't even know if I can do this but… Continue

Time Flies...

I have been away too long and have missed all of you so very much. I've been preoccupied with life's usual busyness which has not included time spent quilting. I knew this was coming but it doesn't make me any more accepting of the changes I've had to make.

I envy those of you who juggle far more than I and yet manage to accomplish beautiful things, and that's why I keep coming back here for inspiration. I am who I am and I won't beat myself up anymore for not being what I wish I could be… Continue

God bless you Jinny Beyer....

For those of you who have corresponded with me, you know my story of how I came to be a quilter sort of by exposure rather than by training. I have written here in length about my mother and have found comfort and encouragement from all of you who have had similar experiences in losing your mothers. This site has been a marvelous and rewarding means of expression in many ways and has been an impetus to get me going when I might have been otherwise intimidated,

My Mom's mentor was Jinny… Continue

Loose Ends....

Posted on March 21, 2009 at 9:13pm 9 Comments

It's been 2 weeks since I finished the pinwheel quilt top. Most everyone else in this space would have had it quilted by now but I'm hesitant to take the next step. I did visit a local quilt shop that has a very efficient long arm quilting business within it and feel comfortable in using their services but the cost is a little more than I can afford right now.

Life is dramatically more different, even more difficult, than it was a year ago at this time. So much has changed since my husband… Continue

Hi Renee, just checkin' in. Haven't visited for a while and hope things are going well for you.

I haven't had much quilting time, but just finished a little tote and a couple of other small projects. Otherwise, fall is here and so the kids are back in their respective schools (one in college and the other in the last year of high school).

Blessings! PQ

Hi Renee', I haven't talked to you forever, how are things going in your part of the world? Things are good here, in the market for a new longarm machine I will be going to order it next week at a special APQS road show. I haven't been back to Florida lately but am going with DH to Michigan next week for a couple of days. Hope all is well with you and your having a great summer.

you know, I'm not originally from Texas, but I've been here almost 20 years and there is something special about "Texans". Quilters are a lovely breed as well. Talk to you soon.

Renee - I know I don't know you, but I look at your picture and read your blogs and know if you lived next door - we would be best friends. I love your spirit.

Renee, I'll make sure that it is autographed for you. The only thing is I won't be home until Sunday night so that means the book won't ship until Monday. If that is okay I'll ask my partner Diana to have Mary sign it and then I can be the last to sign before it is shipped. Let me know if it's okay to ship on Monday.

Renee, it sounds like the stars are starting to align for you. I believe a higher power is trying to tell you something. They say when God closes one door he opens another.

I understand about the economy. Both my son-in-law and my step-daughter were laid off. He was laid off the end of January and can't find work in his field - he's a welder. My step-daughter was laid off the end of March and the company she worked for said they would hire her on a contract basis. The only problem was she had a company car, a company computer and insurance. So we had to get her a car, a computer and she has been scrambling to get insurance for the family. I just hope things turn around real soon.

My book club read Elizabeth Berg's 'The Art of Mending' last year and we enjoyed it.
