I deeply appreciate all the positive comments left for me to enjoy from my post yesterday on the tatted tablecloth of Mama’s.
I appreciate your kind words but you really can see a vast difference in looking at the cloth itself in my stitching & hers. I even see places where I accidentally left out picots (those are little loops that form a type of circle for those of you that are not familiar with such work) I finally convinced myself that it was more important that I finished it to the bes…

Nothing wrong with being interested in history..I've always heard that history repeats itself and you need to know where we've been to know where we're going.
After we came home, I ran up to mom's (less than 1/4 mile away) and helped her work on a jigsaw puzzle. It is a fairly difficult one and she was getting frustrated with it. I like puzzles, so spent the afternoon jawing with her while we worked on that aggravating puzzle. One of the grandkids had given this one to her for Christmas, but it is a monochromatic picture of a horse, so there is really nothing to go by other than piece shape. Brown horsehair is pretty much the same all over! She said her next one will have lots of varying colors so it would be easier to put together! We didn't quite get it finished, but made some good progress.
I hoped to have my niece over this weekend so she could work on Christmas gift projects for her siblings, but she had other plans. They just live here on the place, but about a mile's walk from my house to theirs. (Mom's is in between us and them). My house is in a canyon, but theirs are both up on hills, but on opposite sides of the canyon.
I'm still plugging away on the flowers & leaves - mostly the vines still. I started looking at the pattern and needed something like 400 leaves, so I made the executive decision to only cut as many leaves for one block at a time. Somehow that seems a lot less intimidating. I have set aside the fabrics for this projects so I don't run out, but aside from the vines everything else is 30's scrappy, so even if I do end up using a piece for another project, it shouldn't be an issue. I have made all my bias tape and have them wrapped on dowels or tp rolls. I prefer the dowels, but the tissue roll works in a pinch. I wrapped all my bias tape on it so it wouldn't get wrinkled or come un-pressed, or de-pressed, or whatever. (snicker)
My nephew called me up the other day and asked if it would be possible for me to make his girlfriend a throw-sized quilt for Christmas. I told him it may be possible for someone, but probably not for me! He then said her birthday is in February, so would THAT be possible? I told him I just couldn't commit to that either. Then I teased him, because she comes from a Mennonite background, asking if he were trying to kill me? They are master quilters in my book, right up there with Amish quilters. There is no way I could live up to that! He just laughed and reassured me that as far as he knew (there's the kicker), no one in her family quilted. I said I'll bet there is someone in the family who quilts or can at least recognize fine work (or not) when they see it. No pressure there... She likes green, so I'm looking pretty hard at the CT Bed & Breakfast basket quilt kit with the green blocks. It has a scrappy look to it that I like. I don't usually buy kits, but sometimes it is just easier for me to let someone else pick the fabrics and do the math on yardages and so I get to do the fun part of putting it together. I have SO much to learn yet! I'm humbled when you say you admire my quilts, because mine don't hold a candle to yours. I only hope to make quilts as fine as yours someday. I just love the joy quilting making brings me. Well, except for the times I'm un-sewing! My seam ripper seldom feels neglected.
I'm itching to get a quilt prepared for my lap frame. I'm just not mastering quilting in the frame. Maybe I'm too impatient, but I like to hold it in my lap. I like the way the big frame keeps it taut and I love how a quilt looks in the frame partially quilted, it's just that I have to MAKE myself sit at it to quilt and then I'm not satisfied with my quilting when I have to quilt away from me. I still love the thumb thimble though, so it wasn't a complete loss!
We had snow today, but the temps were warm enough to melt it shortly after it accumulated. I'm thinking it might be a long winter. If the weather holds, we may be heading to DD's college town to visit her and attend a bull sale this weekend.
Blessings to you and keep the posts and the pictures of your projects coming! HUGS from Nebraska! PQ
