Christmas Gifts Have Begun!!!!

I say every year something like this: "next year, I'm going to start in January and work on my Christmas gifts all year long...then when November rolls around, I'll be ahead of the game and will have time to do the more simple and fun things, like baking cookies, making fudge, having time to volunteer, etc"...sound familiar??? So why is it that I rarely ever do that (I did one year only that I can remember)? We know that Nov & Dec just fly by and there's little time left to accomplish everyt… Continue

Fall is here, and we've got snow!

The air's had that crisp, wonderful fall feeling and last night I hear on the news that it's snowed on Copper Mtn, in Colorado! That's crazy! Makes me wonder if we're in for a long hard winter?

Fall is my favorite season of the year...I think of piles of leaves to rake (and jump in when young), the gorgeous fall colors, the clear crispness of the air, tons and tons of delicious apples, harvesting crops and getting the last of the tomatoes before taking the vines where they can last a bit longer… Continue

Calling all Paper Piecers!!!

Heh there everyone! I just wanted to give a "heads up" to all who might be interested...in the group "Scrap Bag", we have a Paper Piecing Only thread where we share that particular love of quilting...and as it's often made with scraps, it's a great way to use them up. Beginning in June, I'll be posting a PP challenge that should be fun and where all who participate will be put in a drawing and I'll send the winner a gift!

When I first started paper piecing many years ago, my poor little brain j… Continue

April Showers Bring May Flowers!

You've all heard the saying..."April Showers Bring May Flowers", right? This saying sure fits this year where I live here in Colorado! We've had rain and snow, then sunshine and more rain and snow and sunshine, and I'm very optomistic that the May flowers are coming!!!! Yea! I love flowers and trees and the spring is such a time of renewal and hope don't you think? I've been busy paper piecing a couple of different Round Robins and am looking at the sunshine thinking it's going to be a gorgeous… Continue

When comes spring?????

The sky is gray outside and we're expecting another snow storm, this one bringing up to 13" in some places! What's up with that? Yesterday, I had to turn on my AC to keep things a bit cooler and the sun was shining and it was beautiful outside! In the 70's! The snow's supposed to be coming in from the west very, very slowly, so it can dump a lot of white stuff here in Denver, Co! That being said, I actually don't mind when it snows, as long as I don't have my garden in yet. I will cozy up with a… Continue

Thanks for the compliment on my Tennessee quilt Ronda. I just love making scrappy quilts. This was the 1st time I made a quilt w/out adding borders and I was so happy with the way it turned out.

Truckee is a little north of the north shore of Lake Tahoe. 15 miles from the CA/NV state line. After dark, I can see headlights on I-80 from my house.

I'm curious now - Where in Colorado do you live - you mentioned Copper Mtn. in your blog post - I used to sell ski lessons and lift tickets there. DH has been an instructor on their ski school staff.

In taking a look through your photos, I like the one you call "ocean" -
The one with the sailboat in the storm at sea

Hi Ronda - I'm sorry to hear of your Moms passing. I don't know how far she lived from you but I know when one isn't near at hand it is a strain. At the momment my Mom has been in hospital with a stroke. But she is out now but because she lives in the UK. and I'm in Canada I find it hard not being nearer so I can help.
Thanks for replying to my email and I have got the tension a bit better and also had got a friends video on free motion but I think it is a matter of practice - practice. Just like I tell my hand quilter students.
Hope in the new year there will be another challenge things will be a little less hectic then. Take Care. Ally.

Hello I love your quilts. I am interested in joining paper piecers and the scrap quilters group. Where did you find the patterns for log cabin var. quilt . I belong to a Guild and we are doing charity quilts. You have a nice variety of quilts and so many. Barbara Donaldson

Hi Ronda Thanks so much for mailing the blocks from the Lotto Quilt Block. Sorry I haven't replied before just got back tonight from the lake having a little vac. with my grandson. I was delighted with the blocks you sent and think I will make a few more and then make into a quilt when I have it up maybe not for a while but I will certainly post it. Even if it is the top done and not quilted. I really have to get going on this free motion quilting. I'm really dragging my heels I find it hard to get the tension right. Now I'm trying another machine to see how it is machine quilting freemotion. I have had trouble with the tension on my Janome so maybe it needs to go into service, something is out of line I think. Anyway thank you once again for all your hard work putting this together. It really was fun.
