Hi Rusty, thank you so much. Yes, we're all on cloud 9 and of course I'm very partial, but she is a beauty and changes every day. After talking to my DIL Sunday, and she said two things that surprised me and made me very glad that her doc was on the case every minute: 1st, the C-section was because not only was she in labor for a long time, the cord was starting to wrap around the baby's neck. If they had waited until her expected due date of 9/1, the cord around Lily's neck would have really been an issue; also, my DIL is very small and the doc said she wouldn't have been to have a "natural" birth. The good thing about that is that next time she'll have a c-section that will make her delivery much easier.
As for "normal" life, my knee is about 70% healed...my DH has been going out with me to help with the lifting and digging. I'm going back to work part time at the garden center this weekend and will be winding down my summer landscape business for fall and winter. I'll probably have to get a temp job from Jan to March to keep up with the bills, but that's the way it goes.
Quilting-wise, I'm working on my round robin started on QWU, finishing Lily's quilt for her Christening on 11/1 and trying to put together blocks I got from another CT group - East Coast Quilters Halloween Block Swap. Too many quilts, too little time! Yesterday I went through all my Christmas fabric so I can put some of it up on e-bay. I sold a bunch of Halloween fabric and it helped clean out my sewing stash and raise a few bucks! I can't believe how much stuff I can part with - I guess it goes under the "what was I thinking?" philosophy. Hopefully potential buyers will not think the same way!
So how are you? I hope you're feeling well and happily quilting. What are you working on? Talk to you soon... Love, Barb
Hi Rusty, thanks for the note. First, I checked my friends list and you are on there, but if we can't communicate through that, this is fine. As for being your mentor - any time I can help!
It's been a few days since I got this message and I'm wondering how Comet is doing? I hope the medication is helping.
RIght now I'm still trying to finish the baby quilt for my DIL and a doll quilt for my grand niece who's coming up for the shower. As for landscaping, things are going along. Then yesterday I was planting some perennials, stepped on a stone wall and fell off, twisting my leg and sprained my knee pretty badly. My DH took me to the ER (that could have been a comedy sketch in itself) and it's lucky that nothing is broken and I don't need surgery, but this means that I have to cancel my maintenance visits for about 3 weeks...most have been very understanding and the other ones, I can't do anything about! Randy did say that he'll go with me to some clients when he comes home from work. Unfortunately, much of the maintenance would take too long to explain, but he will be able to help me with a couple. It figures....the sun just came out for the first time in about 10 days!
Take care of the pooch - I'm thinking about you both, hoping for the best. Love, Barb
Hi! Rusty:
I am sorry that your not doing well:
Please know that I will keep praying for you & that the wheel chair doesn't win & that you will be able to feel better so as you can get to do the things you so love to do(quilting and other things).
My eldest granddaughter Brittney is now 16 years old, we celebrated her birthday(part) this past saturday
The party turned out really nice, lots of kids of all ages.
Do to the 2 birthday partys & helping with the 2 trees getting cut down this past sat. & sunday, I haven't gotten to any of my projects, quilt, scrapbooking or sewing.
I'm doing ok minus I am saddned that my fiancee said some things to hurt my feelings.
I will be ok.

Dear Rusty: I hope all has well with you. Have you been able to complete your blocks. I haven't. I've been making shop samples and doing inventory. You asked about my pets. We have less now than we've ever had. Also not as diverse. We have 5 dogs. Two machester Terriers-Fancy and Naomi. They are 14 years old. Sweet Sue- Jack Russell/Queensland. She is 6 years old and an epileptic. Abigal- a tall Westie/ 4 years old and Daddy's baby. Our miniature poodle-Lily passed away at 14 years old/ with a congestive heart, 2 years ago. We were heart broken, especially her Daddy. And Ginger Snap a Yorkie/Poo. She is 5 months old and 5 lbs. My baby. We only have 2 cats now, Fatty Kneebuckle who is 16 years old and Cheddar, a reformed ferral. He is 6 months old. Well, my grandchildren have arrived and I must get them ready for school. Talk with you again soon. Sandi
Hi Rusty, I got your friend request-thanks! That's one of the best things about quilting-making good friends!! Sorry to hear that you have challenging days! But good for you for not letting it hold you back and trying something new! I have MS, and I understand. Some days you just do what you can do! I'm very glad you like the pattern, and I hope you enjoy making the quilt! If I can help with anything, let me know!! Take care, Paula
Hi Rusty - I do have bone density tests on a regular basis as I already have some osteoporosis. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's problem - as much as you try to research you're never really sure how medications will effect you. I was taking Actonel for the Osteo and one of the side effects could be joint and muscle pain, so the last time I was at the dr, he said that as long as I take calcium, I could be OK without the Actonel. We'll see when I go back to the doc.
Your boss sounds like a bit of a sadist, but, as Randy and I have discussed often lately, in these times, you have to be glad you have a job and try to suck it up and deal. Doesn't seem fair, though.
About pre-washing fabrics, I used to, but since I don't have a washer or dryer, I hate to spend $$ at the laundromat. Also, it _is_ easier to cut and sew with the sizing in the fabric. I've heard several quilters saya they use a fabric softener sheet in the dryer called color catcher - have to give it a try...I love the way a quilt looks after washing, sort of wrinkled and cozy.
Randy and I have been having fun with quilting and it's given us things in common. When I was getting my judges' certification in '74, everyone in the family became a quilt judge - I had to be careful if we went to shows that their comments were very low...you never know who's standing behind you! Actually Randy (the real writer in our family) wrote a piece for the American Quilter (AQS 1986) about our hockey quilts. Then there's the story of Randy's meeting a hockey player that he got a letter from just after his mother dyed and I made a quilt for the foundaiton he started. The story is quite long, but I found an excerpt from a book on the web if you have some time to spare...

You said you have a son, JJ - is he married? What type of work does he do?
Have a great week,
Barb
Hi Rusty,
I'm so glad you have joined our group! I'm having a lot of fun getting to know so many other people who share my love for all things fabric. As for your question about cutting the blocks out: I'm just cutting each block as I go and following the instructions in the kit, but you can do whatever you want. I know some people like to do all their cutting at once, and then start the sewing process. That's just fine too. Paula Stoddard has really good directions in the pattern, so if you follow those, you'll be just fine.
Happy Quilting!
My name is Rusty (nickname) and I'm married and have a son J.J. who is 27 years old. I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia but I'm trying to get back to sewing after a long absence. I am a beginner quilter and have been sewing since I was 7 years old. I also crochet, cross stitch, and other crafts when my body lets me which hasn't been often. I hope to make friends in addition to learning more about quilting. Now I just have to see if my body is going to let me participate at least a few times a week. Thank you Connecting Threads for not only having a great online store but for having such a great idea to get us quilters together!

My Pets
We just took in a stray cat from the neighborhood named White Out. My son has 2 cats - Shadow a tiger cat and Tiley cat a tuxedo cat. We love our furbabies!
My name is Rusty and I'm from Chandler, Arizona. I am a beginner quilter and I just ordered the Southern Stars BOM Quilt kit. I can't wait until it arrives so that I can get started - I just hope I can keep up with everyone! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia so there are days that I can't even get on the computer. I am wanting so badly to get started quilting and I thought this might "force" me to do it and not pay attention to the intense pain in my body. I'm looking forward to getti… Continue

Thanks for the invite. I hope your health issues work out.
Perhaps we should hire you to help us determine when the catalogs will hit homes, so we can be at the ready on the phones! :)
