Hawaiian Applique

Just returned from a trip to Hawaii--something that was on DH's and my bucket list. DH wanted to see the Arizona Memorial and it was inspiring and sad at the same time. Hawaii really honors service men and women and is very patriotic. That was refreshing.

While on Mauai for a couple of days, I found a fabric shop the second day and purchased some great Hawaiian print fabrics and some Hawaiian applique patterns. I was overwhelmed with the selection of material available and…

Looking for a special old pattern

Posted on July 26, 2010 at 9:16am 0 Comments

I once had a book of log cabin patterns for the seasons. It had an Easter, Halloween, and especially a Christmas table topper. The design for the table topper was octagonal and was poinsettias. I purchased my fabric and started on my project. I was working at the time and had a busy family, so I did not get very far with this project at the time. Sometime later I got it out and discovered, to my horror, that I could not find my pattern. I purchased the book and fabric in Petaluma, California,… Continue

Thank you, Sonya--I confess I'm really proud of this quilt so far--and now comes my favorite part, quilting!

Hi Sonya,
We had our honeymoon in Honolulu 42 years ago. Then my sister and I went on a vacation to the Big Island 5 years ago. We'd certainly love to go back again. The Islands are truly beautiful.
Here is a website where you can find Hawaiian quilt patterns, they also sell kits - www.prqc.com.
Hawaiian quilting is really easy and fun to do. I have a couple on my page out of the series by Helen Squire that was published in the Quilters Newsletter some 20 years ago. I'd gladly send you a copy of the series if you are interested.

Hi Sonya, I was on the Applique Techniques and saw where you broke your foot. OUCH!! I know how painful that can be but more than the pain is the aggravation of having to keep your foot elevated and all that stuff. I had my left foot torn off in an accidint at work in June of 2001. After many surgeries and a lot of therapy I am good to go. As good as I can be that is. I am 64 now and have not worked in all those years but am happy to be able to walk and get around now. I hope you hurry and get rid of the casts and get back to sewing. CUL
