crown royal quilt

Posted on January 30, 2009 at 9:57am 9 Comments

Good morning, all. I have been asked to make a quilt out of crown royal bags and am wondering if anyone else has done this. I've searched on-line for ideas and have come up with a few I like, but if anyone has actually made one, could you share your experience with me? I would appreciate it. I have 2,000 bags to work with and will be making a queen size quilt. I know that is more than enough, but I should have several to "practice" with! Thanks. Sue

Good Morning! I'm new to this site and also to blogging. I'd like to make some friends who share my love of quilting and share ideas and inspirations. The photo I selected for my profile is of a quilt I made for my best friend from High School who had massive surgery after being diagnose with cervical cancer. I live 500 miles away from her and couldn't be with her immediately, so I stitched this quilt as I prayed for her recovery and gave it to her the day she left the hospital after surgery.… Continue

Thanks for the compliment on my friendship quilt Sue. I really like yours also. I still have plenty of squares left so am thinking of doing a lap size quilt with them.

Sue, your group quilt is great! Isn't it amazing how so many different fabrics can look so good together?

I love your lap quilt. Amazing how really beautiful all these quilts have turned out, all different but with the same fabric. Practice, practice, practice that's what all the books say. Yours looks mighty good.

We were in CB anyway for the High School Musical on Ice show, so the quilt shop was the icing on the cake, or the cherry on top, if you will! I always try to find a quilt shop in the area if I'm traveling a ways from home. That way, I'm like you, I think you find things a little different from the local shops...and I'm on a quest to visit every quilt shop in America!!!

Sue...I live 6 miles NE of Lorimor which is on Hwy 169 south of Winterset, IA. It was about a 2 1/2 hour trip to CB from here. We brought Hwy 34 over, so several small towns to go through along the way. I see that Gretna is a little further west. What is it, about 20 - 25 miles? No, I've not been there, but I'll make a note of it, if we get back over that way again to visit Seams to Be.

Sue...I really liked the shop. They have so much of everything. The selection of 30's fabrics is the most I've seen in one place. I wish we would have had more time on Saturday. We got there around 4:30 and I hate to bother people at closing time. I work in an office where customers come in right at closing and don't even feel bad about it. The bridge must have some historical significance to save it. Is there another way across the river? I didn't see any other bridges north or south as we crossed...Jackie

Thanks Sue for the comment on my quilt. The pattern is from the Dec 08 McCall's Quilting magazine.

I really wanted a Gammill with the Statler Stitcher, but since I haven't won the lottery, this was a more affordable option. A girlfriend and I went together on the purchase and it gets to live at my house!
