Twyla, welcome to the Newbie group. Glad you came to join us and hope you have a wonderful time. The gang are so helpful so any questions or comments just post. Looking forward to seeing some photos especially of your pets.
Twyla, I love your quilting memories. I just shows that quilting is so much more than just fabric and thread. Don't you agree? I also think that people that don't have a hobby are really missing out. I have become a much calmer person since I started quilting. I don't have any parents or grandparents that quilted but I sure plan to pass my skills down to my kids and their kids. I told my 15 year old son that he has to marry a girl that is crafty. He just looks at me like I've lost my mind.
My oldest daughter doesn't have an interest yet in quilting but my 18 year old daughter loves to sew and has made a couple quilts. I wish you happy quilting!

Hey Twyla,
I have been driving for 12 years.
Assuming you have checked the accuracy of your 1/4"the 1/4" quilting foot or my pfaff does NOT give me 1/4" seams, I have to move the needle to the right!), it might not be you! The pattern may be wrong. In that case, you can cut these pieces larger or smaller to fit the block. I found Fons and Porters triangle cutters very useful when I started...they are pink and blue, 1 ea, and guide you where to trim off any excess to you can accurately place your pieces together.
Hi Twyla:
Welcome to the Quilt Frame. It looks like you're already getting some help with that triangle project. As you can see, you've come to the right place. I always feel like I'm sitting at a very large quilt frame listening to all the ideas and suggestions (and other bits of conversation). Its a great place to be and I'm glad you decided to join us. Hi Twyla,
Technically I should have called it Craft Night...we have quilters and knitters. Whoever wants to stay brings whatever they are working on (but you could get more organized and all work together on the same thing) and we sit around and chat and laugh! We all weigh in on each others projects or give hints to people just learning. It's great fun and we try and stay after work once a week.
Hope you have success getting something started.
Andi is very right, practice, practice, practice................. I am wishing that my days were full of practice, but.....................
I know, keep on trying!! Yes, of course that's the best. Between the site here and the sewing machine at home I am hooked!
Welcome, Twyla!
Practice, practice, practice is what they say. I have much to practice but I started machine quilting on smaller items using just basic designs in small sections. Just have fun with it!
Where is Robinson anyway.... I live just south of Chicago.
Hi Twyla - I not an email that you added a comment in the UFO but when I hit on it, I couldn't find it so I searched you out in the individuals...
You are getting ready to machine quilt for basically the first time. I just went through this and can share some ideas. First thing is make a small sandwiched square - about 2 feet square and practice on that. Secondly, you must use one of the feet that has a spring on it or you won't be able to control the quilting. Third of all - don't try to make designs in the beginning - just mosey around in the freemotion way, just stippling. Once you get that down, then you can make some patterns. It took me a couple of quilts with stippling before I could make any patterns and feel at all successful. The most important thing is to relax - if you are uptight about it - it shows very clearly in your work! Practice a little, then get brave and go for it! You can't go wrong. Oh - one last thing - in your stippling - decide up front if you are going for a tight look or a very well spaced - the broader the spacing the better it looks and really the less the mistakes show. I wear surgical gloves which gives me a grip on the fabric which also helps move it around. Just try it and have fun...
Welcome Twyla! Happy to see you have joined the site. Hope you enjoy checking out everyone and all the neat pictures too.
Have a great day!
