We just had a fantastic retreat at Red Barn in Coldspring, Texas. Am thoroughly inspired by what we saw/did and the great show at Huntsville--the Airing of the Quilts was truely excellent. Yes, the retreat and the show are really close together and the timing is perfect. The weather also cooperated, in a rainy week those ladies are really gutsy for hanging an outside show--they were the delicious sandwich between t-storms!! If anyone is interested, I can post pictures?…

I'm a FQ queen myself but it keeps me very creative because it never fails, just when I've found the "right" piece of fabric in my stash for any given project, there is never enough! Guess that's what keeps my stuff scrappy looking, which I like, but sometimes presents a challenge for me.
Yes, Tell is in wrestling. That is actually his main sport and one his body is more geared to, if that makes sense. He is just more gifted there than in other sports, but he works harder at it than the others as well. He mainly goes out for football to keep in shape for wrestling. (He had considered cross-country this year, but with small schools, they like everyone to participate in everything just for numbers, and since he started out in football as a freshman, he chose to finish up there.)
No great ideas for that cowboy batik yet, but I may have to go back to get more of it. I did buy 1 1/2 yards, but imagine if I do anything that needs a border, that won't be enough. It was one of those days where 3 yards seemed excessive and a FQ wasn't enough! (My friend's husband told her she couldn't buy less than 3 yards of fabric, because she wasted more money in driving back to the quilt shop to buy more than she would have if she'd have bought the 3 yards in the first place! I'm pretty surey my DH is happy with FQ buys. Inventory scares him.) :0)
I think we're headed to Chadron to visit DD this weekend and to attend a bull sale there. We'll leave early Friday morning and then possibly head back Saturday after the sale. One of my brothers (the one ranching near Valentine) will be there also. We don't see him as often as the other two who live closer, so it will be fun to see them.
Today was youth group day at the church. It pretty much takes it out of me, but we do have a great bunch of kids. Today we had a craft day as well as the usual snacks, Bible story, singing and games. I had 3 extra men for dinner today, but that went pretty well. Don't tell anyone, but after DH was done checking the cattle and taking care of the outside chores, he came in and ran a broom for me. He's great.
Blessings to you! Hugs from Nebraska! PQ
Your applique work is amazing. The Santas from around the world is AWESOME! Carol
I was at my SIL's gluing glass beads to fishing line from 1 to 7 p.m. We started out with two of us and then another of her friends came to help. It went pretty fast. I guess the plan for this January wedding is to drape these strings of beads over small tree branches set around the room to look like icycles. I didn't ask - just glued. :0) I'm sure it will be pretty.
DS helped with a junior high wrestling meet last night. Football is over - ended on a win, which was good - and wrestling has started. His first meet will be the first weekend in December.
I'm hoping my niece will be able to come over today to work on Christmas projects (pillowcases) for her siblings. She is a 7th grader and likes to work on quilting/sewing projects.
I made a quilted casserole carrier last week. I downloaded a free pattern of the internet and if I had to make another one, I'd either tweak the pattern a little bit or do something different. I'm thinking of trying to make a boxy-shaped, slide-in tote-like casserole carrier (for 9 x 13 pans) with one end being flapped up and velcroed on top with the straps coming clear underneath the carrier on both ends for stability and to keep it level. We'll see if I can figure it out without a pattern. It shouldn't be too hard. I actually have a picture in my head of how I want it to be, which is not typical for me. Usually I can't picture anything without actually seeing it first.
We have had a week or so of good weather. We were supposed to get snow/moisture this weekend, but I think the forecast has either changed, or it is going to miss us this time.
I'm trying to spend more time quilting. My nephew called and asked it if would be possible for me to make a throw-sized quilt for his girlfriend for Christmas. I told him it might be possible for some people, but I was afraid to make that commitment. He then said, well her birthday is in February, would that be possible? I just chuckled. I appreciate his confidence in me, but time will tell on that deal. I told him I wasn't making any promises, but I'd see what I could do. She comes from a Menonite background (who I think are master quilters right up there with the Amish), so - you know - NO PRESSURE THERE!!!
Thank you so much for thinking of me. I enjoy hearing from you and am glad the hurricane passed you by. I'll be anxious to see a picture of your quilt.
Blessings & Hugs from Nebraska!!! PQ
I hope you had a good weekend. DH and I were able to go to church together on Sunday. Only have done that once or twice in the last 14 months. It was great. We actually had most of the day "off" and it was good.
Are you watching the new Masterpiece Mystery? Sunday's was pretty good, I thought.
Here's another Devonshire Cream recipe: Devonshire Cream
½ c. heavy whipping cream
2 T. powdered sugar
1/3 c. sour cream
Using a chilled bowl, beat cream until medium stiff peaks form. Add the sugar the last few minutes of beating. Fold in the sour cream and blend. Makes 1 ½ cups. It's really yummy. (sorry to be snooping, but that one jumped out at me from Joanne).
I'm reading 'Jane and the Ghosts of Netly' mystery now. It's pretty good.
Hope to write more soon, but did want to say hi and that I'm thinking of you.
Karen
Please pass it around the Quilting Bee that you and Janice go to. Thanks much.
Mock cream recipe, with whipping cream and cream cheese. If you can't get ahold of true Devonshire clotted cream, this will still be a nice addition to your table.
Ingredients:
3 oz cream cheese, room temperature
1 tbs sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1 cup whipping cream
Preparation:
Combine cream cheese, sugar and salt, and blend well. Stir in the whipping cream and beat until mixture is stiff. Store in the refrigerator and serve chilled.
