About Me
I love to quilt and to learn new things. I started quilting about 3 years ago. I was inspired by a medical facility that I took my mother to and they had the most wonderful quilts hanging on the walls. That is when I decided to become a quilter. I am still working on my freemotion quilting. I am a bit intimidated by it. But I will get it! I have a wonderful husband who supports me in my craft and three handsome sons who also seem to enjoy my handicrafts. I have two dogs and two cats. I have not worked in the past three years and miss it terribly. I love children and worked as a preschool teachers aide. I also worked part time in a grooming salon. My passion was always to have beautiful gardens and a warm home. We live in scenic southern PA with hills and valleys that are breathtaking any time of the year. I would love to meet other quilters and crafters.

Quilts for Kids Charity

Posted on September 17, 2009 at 1:30pm 0 Comments

Hi All,

I haven't been on for awhile. I have been busy starting a York, PA chapter for quilts for kids organization. I have finally got approved and am in the midst of recruiting new volunteers and donations of fabric. If you live in or around the York county area and are interested in this great charity please let me know. We need more quilters, new or experienced, to help in this cause. We will need quilters and also if someone out there has fabric that they are willing to donate, it… Continue

Having "met" with some of you make it so nice for someone like me that does not have "real friends" who are interested in the idea of quilting or crafting. This is the first time that I have ever blogged or even joined a community of quilters. It is very inspiring and I hope that it brings out more and more people with the same mindset as we all have. Whether seasoned or beginners like me. I do love learning new things but am not the type to go to a class by myself and my friends aren't… Continue

Happy New Year!!!

When I got the email from CT's I couldn't wait to check it out. This is great! I am hoping to meet new friends here and maybe learn some new ideas. This is a wonderful place to be. All my girlfriends come to me for their quilting or crafting gifts. None of them are interested in this art. I am looking forward to making new friends who have the same interests as I do.

Good Morning Cheri! I'd be very interested in running down to Shrewsbury with you, but only if it's on Saturday. I don't have any business travel scheduled for a little while, but work is crazy...I'm putting in close to 12 hours everyday. I am planning to take a day off sometime during the week of March 16th because I need to take my latest quilt down to Richmond VA to give to my girlfriend who is coming up on her 5 year cancer free anniversary from Ovarian Cancer. I made her the "Hope" quilt, a quilt I saw on the cover of The Quilter Magazine back in 2007. It's made with beautiful teal fabrics created especially to benefit Ovarian Cancer research. It came out beautifully and I am so excited to give it to her. If this week doesn't work out, then maybe we could meet for breakfast on my way down to Richmond.

Hi Cheri, Nottingham is just north of the 695 beltway, by Whitemarsh, Perry Hall, close to Towsand. There's a great little quilt shop in Towsand off Jopa road called the Bearspaw. Is there a quilt guild in your area. I have to drive a ways to get to mine but it's really worth it for me. The challenges have been great for getting me motivated.

Cheri, My group isn't dedicated to quilting. It's a group of crafters of all kinds and we do a lot of community service also. We have a business meeting on the first Wed. of each month, and the projects for the month are laid out. If you see something you'd like to do, you sign up with the lady who is teaching the class and get of list of supplies. It could be any kind of offering e.g., knitting, cooking, card playing, sewing, anything. This month one woman was teaching the snowman wall hanging in 2 parts on 2 of the Wed. nites in Jan. There isn't always a quilt project, actually there are very few, so I usually try to sign up for the ones that are available. And the cupcake runner I'm doing is from the current issue of Quick Quilts. It's my 2nd attempt at applique, and the snowman my 3rd. I'm having fun with the cupcake, because the fabric in the magazine isn't available around here, so I picked out fabric in Walmart that to me looked like it would make cute cupcakes. I too wish I could find a dedicated group of quilters around here. I want a group where I won't feel intimidated. There is a quilting Guild about 35 minutes east of here, but they meet at night, and honestly I don't want to drive that distance alone. So, this group and the limited access that I have available to me around here is what I have. I will say, seeing the projects posted here by others has been giving me a spark of excitement. Especially if the person posting can share where the pattern came from . Oh, about the kids, I think we're done passing the virus back and forth, wait a minute, where's some wood I can knock on? Glad you wrote back. Your projects are ones I really enjoy. We seem to be on the same page. If I lived in VA., I'd try to hook up with you and start a club!!! For a while, I thought I'd be moving to Fredricksburg, but that didn't happen. Is that anywhere near you? - Jane

Hi Cheri, Haen't heard from you in a while. Busy quilting? I've done a little wall quilt for Olivia using fussy cut squares from a princess material. Also doing a cupcake wall hanging that I might use as a table runner. and Wed. night at my homemakers group one of the ladies taught a snowman wall hanging, so I'm working on that and then next Wed. nite is part 2 of the wall hanging. That's just the finishing up, with the binding, etc. I could stay home and do it, but sometimes too many UFO's pile up that way, so it's better if I go out to the formal class and finish it. I'm also doing an embroidery project and knitting my second scarf in 2 weeks. Babysitting the kids I find it better to do hand projects and save the sewing machine projects for when they go to bed or when their parents are home and I can lock myself away from them for a while! Hope you've been quilting busy. Jane

Hi Cheri - did you get snow this weekend like we did, and if so, did you quilt a new snowman? Kids a re much improved, so here's hoping they'll all be happy enough to play together and give me a little hand quilting time tomorrow!!! - Jane

Hi Cheri - Thanks for asking about the children. They are slowly getting better, but still coughing from that darn chest cold. All four of the little grandkids have the same thing, so I've been kind of busy this week. But I did start to cut out the the yo-yo's. I found it easier to work on a cheater quilt that I could just sit and hand stitch in the same room with the kids. Will keep you informed of my progress (I hope)

Thanks for the invite. I would have to think about that as I live in Mt. Laurel, NJ. My cousin lives in Etters. Is that near where you were thinking of getting together?

Cheri - I sent an email, just want to make sure you know I got the patterns. Had planned to start them today, but the are still sick and cranky with fever, so not today. Maybe I'll just flip through quilt magazines if I get them down for naps. Thanks again for sending the patterns.

Well, thank you Cheri ! Being in a down mood today, you certainly turned things around and made my day !!

I'm sort of far from Lancaster/York but thanks for considering me for your group. Sounds like a good group. Love your pix too.

Cloverleaf quilt club is a group of friends that quilt together. One of the women who is a very experienced quilter has us over to her house to quilt. She lives in Shrinestown and is a neighbor of a good friend from work so they asked me to join. We are not an official quilt club but named our group after the road she lives on. The room we quilt in is very small, but we are looking for alternative sites so we can invite other quilters to join.

OK, Cheri, if you don't mind. Scanning for me would't be something I'd know how to do. We have a scanner, but I've never used it. My son mostly did, but he's got his own apartment now in the city, so maybe some weekend when he's home, I'll whine until he shows me!!! Speaking of disney, we're watching Mulan now on the Disney channel. Anyway, my email is Julynana@yahoo.com. Thanks

Cheri- I appreciate your offering to scan the directions, but I don't want to ask you to do that. If you can just tell me what size the finished yo-yo's are and how many of them I need, that would get me started on the project until the directions arrive. It was so cute, I'm looking forward to making him. I too will probably be giving the finished one away. I do the same thing, keep the sample and give away the better looking one! Bought fabric last nite at Walmart, so I'm set to go. (Also bought fabric just because I thought it was cute)

Cheri- The little ones are 3 and 21 months. Turns out one just has a cold, but the little guy has an ear infection. Normally, during the work week I baby sit both of my daughters children. So I would have the two I just mentioned, plus a set of 28 month old twin boys, and a 6 yr old. I put her on the school bus each morning and then care for the remaining 4 . By the time the 6 yr old gets back from school, my son-in-law is home, so he goes to the bus stop.
