Retreats or Conferences?

Posted on January 14, 2009 at 12:49pm 3 Comments

Hi! I live in ND just 18 miles from Montana and 45 miles from Canada. Way up north!

Every year I try to go some place different for either a quilt show with classes or a retreat. I've driven and flown so distance is okay. I'd love to head west and find a fun, new place to go. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi Paula, I live in Hesperia, CA. About 100 east of Los Angeles in the high desert. The Julian retreat is every May & again in Nov. so if this time doesn't work out for you...maybe some other time. Sounds like you had a fun weekend. I know you guys have been bombarded wih snow....but I think it is so pretty. We had 1 freak snow storm in Dec that left us with about a foot or so and my dogs (beagles) couldn't figure out what in the world that stuff was. My girl got stuck in a trench in the backyard....she's older and not to energetic anymore! She just stood there with her tail wagging waiting for somebody to come get her. Well have a good week, can I add you as a friend? Marie

Hi Paula, just checking in.....ha! Did you get a spot in the Julian retreat? I'm hoping I'll be able to go this year. The economy has been rough on business.....so not sure yet. It would be neat to meet in person. Have a great day! Marie

Hi Paula, I faxed the papers on Julian to you today. Did you get them ok?
Are you by chance doing the Southern Stars BOM? I am and just did my 1st block last night. Fun! Talk to you soon. Marie

Yes I do, the paper is at home so I'll bring it tomorrow & fax it to you. They do rent machines, I think it's $25 - but much easier to do that when you're traveling so far. Everybody works on different things, just as long as it's a Quilt In A Day pattern of some kind. You can order a kit or bring your own fabric....or buy something when you get there...they set up a small store on site....I've never not been able to find anything I can live without! HA...that's the sickness I guess! Talk to you soon. Marie

Their website is www.quiltinaday.com, but I couldn't find any info on the retreat yet. Maybe it's too early...they sent me a registration form because I have attended before. Keep me posted if you're going...if I can we'll get to meet. Marie

Hi Paula, I just received some info on the spring Julian retreat. It is May 4-7 (M-Th). The cost is $385 this year. I hope I'll be able to go...but not sure at this point, as the cost is more than last year. You can call 800-777-4852 ext114 to arrange to make a deposit of $100. Hope this helps. Marie

Hi Paula, I think you can find more info at the website. I'll check & get back to you. They always have quilters from all over. I live only about 3 hours away, but a few friends and I always make a day of the trip there! Talk to you soon. Marie

Hi, check out the Julian retreat in So CA thru Quilt in a Day. I have been going for about 18 years. It's accomodations are very rustic (it's at a church camp...so we sleep in bunks)....but it's so beautiful & quiet. The only requirement that I know of is working on a QIAD project...other than that you are free to do as you please....teachers are there if you need help. I love it. Hope you check it out! Take care. Marie
