About Me
I have been a quilter for 30 years. I'm a Colorado native currently living in Texas. I taught elementary school for 33 years and retired in May of 2008. Now I have my dream job of working at a darling quilt shop one day a week. I cherish my fabric stash and collection of books, patterns, and buttons. I also needlepoint, embroider, and knit. I love to read and garden and be outside or in my quilt room. I have a tiny quilting business called "Sweet Pea & Periwinkle Quilts". Megan, our oldest daughter, is in Chicago. She married Dan in 2011, finished her Ph.D. and had our new granddaughter Ellie in 2012. Our precious Hillary, our youngest daughter, lost her courageous battle against leukemia in 2003 ~ we miss her every second of every day, but we try our best to continue & to have a meaningful and loving life. My husband Brad & I celebrated our 38th anniversary in 2012.

Ordered It!

Posted on April 5, 2013 at 1:27pm 1 Comment

I had to go to our Bernina store to get a quarter inch foot with the guide for my BabyLock so I ordered my Tutto Trolley and a little bag for the top.  I got turquoise because they didn't come in blue.  Can't wait for club so I can get everything organized and take it!

Found At Last

Right after Christmas I wanted to work on my Chocolate BonBons quilt  (which I have already posted a picture of in my Primitive Group).  I had made the flower applique pieces and put them in a safe place, but of course that was not it the plastic Artbin box with all of the other fabrics, the magazine that has the pattern, the bias stems I had already made.  I've been looking for the appliques everywhere.  Well, when my family and friends came for Easter I moved all the quilt blocks in…

I have been sewing all day, finishing a T-shirt quilt for a former student; I also taught with his mom.  Anyway, he is graduating from college this year. I don't feel old because my first class of second grade kids are 47 or 48!!!

The point is that…

Tutto Trolley, Anyone?

Posted on March 27, 2013 at 6:43am 13 Comments

Good morning! I am thinking of getting a Tutto Sewing Machine Trolley...basically luggage for a sewing machine.  I am going to "sew" many clubs and classes that I find my already sore hand, elbow, and shoulder are getting worse!! I injured my elbow and shoulder last summer gardening, and I have been trying to take it easy. Anyway, I was looking at the rolling sewing machine luggage and thought these look good.  Just wondering if anyone has one and how they like it.

Do I Need Another Passion !?! RUG HOOKING ? Really !?!

Posted on March 13, 2013 at 11:55am 3 Comments

Yesterday I began learning a new art.... RUG HOOKING! I have been wanting to start rug hooking for about 2 years, but I didn't think I needed One More Thing.   Well, we had "Woolies" at the shop where I work ( it's a hand sewing get together once a month & people hand quilt, English paper piece, rug hook, knit, wool applique, embroider, or whatever)  It's free - just show up.  There are basically…

Good to be back...

It's hard to believe I haven't been on Quilt With Us for almost 5 months. So much has happened; my beloved mother passed away after Christmas and I miss her terribly. Although she had a long good life and was healthy for most of her 91 years...I miss her.

Also my husband has decided to retire from his job in December of this year. We will be moving back home to Colorado, which we are really happy about.  We will be close to…

Finally got in the Mood

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 3:45pm 6 Comments

I finally got all my traveling behind me, and although it was wonderful, it's nice to be home for a few months. We won't travel again until Christmas. The sewing mood finally appeared and I got a couple things going. One is the center medallion for the "Chocolate BonBons" quilt from Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine. I have the rest ready to put together, but had to stop and make a grizzly bear costume for my DGD.  I also knitted her a witch hat, but it is huge! She won't be able to…

New Profile Picture

Posted on September 18, 2012 at 8:30am 6 Comments

This is a new profile picture, although the picture is a few weeks old. My granddaughter, Ellie! She will soon be four months old and we are going to see our daughter, her husband, and of course, Ellie this weekend. I haven't posted for quite a while.  My mom is 91 and she recently went into the hospital.  She is very ill although thankfully I can talk to her on the phone. I saw her a few weeks ago and will go to Colorado again soon.  Please say a prayer for Ruth.

Thank you. DH and I had a wonderful and relaxing weekend at the beach, where I got the new hat (forgot all mine at home). I am happy and so blessed.

Thank you for your comments on my blog!  That is very kind of you to want to send me fabric! How wonderful!  That would be like Christmas only better because it's fabric, from a quilting friend and it's almost my birthday! Only if you truly are wanting to part with it and I would be happy to pay for shipping as it is quite expensive these days. Sad isn't it?  Anyway, you are correct in all your comments!  I need to get back to basics.  I wish I could convince those in my circle of life to sew but they don't and those that do (my MIL and one SIL) are over an hour away and busier than me! I had hoped they would want to get together once in a while but no such luck.  Oh well.  The Lord knows and He has always made a way for me.  Thank You for being so encouraging!

Thanks for the compliments on my niece's quilt.  The pattern is "Fireworks" by Nancy Smith and Lynda Milligan of "Possibilities".  The orginal pattern is wall hanging size with the blocks arranged as 4 circles. My niece preferred the "almost circles but not"  look.  I also doubled the number of blocks and added the last solid border to make it twin size.

Thanks for the tip! Don't know when I'm going to get to my "Over the River...". Everytime I think I'll have time, 6 projects get put in front of me that are for someone else. I came back from AZ with several projects from church and friends. My UFOs are on the back burner...again. I did get 1 UFO done...better than 0.

How exciting to have a little granddaughter on the way!  I'm still a few years away from that point, but I'm already saving quilt patterns and ideas for baby clothes and toys.

I'm glad you liked my GFG--it was a joy to make.  I started it as a take-along project when I went to take care of my Dad and Mother when he broke his hip and finished it shortly after he died this past summer.  My next take-along is a Seven Sisters quilt--a good way to use up those 60 degree diamonds!
