About Me
I have been a quilter for over 30 years. I'm a Colorado native now living in the Fort Collins area. I taught elementary school for 33 years and retired in May of 2008. I worked at a darling quilt shop one or two days a week for three years until it closed. I enjoy my fabric stash and collection of books, patterns, and buttons. I also needlepoint, embroider, and knit. I love to read and garden and be outside in the snow or in my quilt room. I have a tiny quilting business called "Sweet Pea & Periwinkle Quilts". Megan, our oldest daughter, is in Chicago. She married Dan in 2011, finished her Ph.D. and had our new granddaughter Ellie in 2012. Our precious Hillary, our youngest daughter, lost her courageous battle against leukemia in 2003 ~ we miss her every second of every day, but we try our best to continue & to have a meaningful and loving life. My husband Brad & I celebrated our 39th anniversary in 2013.

Moved Home to Colorado

Posted on February 4, 2014 at 7:18pm 7 Comments

We are finally getting settled in our new house! It's great to be home and reconnecting- in person- with our families and friends. We've been having fun unpacking, being retired together & and even enjoying the snow and the mountains. Our daughter and her family have visited twice (and we took Ellie sledding as you can see from the picture). I've been setting up my quilting space in our unfinished basement…

MOVING !

Posted on September 23, 2013 at 10:30am 8 Comments

We are moving home to Colorado on Wednesday! The floods in Colorado were devastating for so many people, but all of our family and friends are ok.  I called our builder and our new house is totally fine, no flooding.  We sold our house here and we are in an apartment with our dog, but it has been fine.  I can tell you I have been really stressed out because we didn't sell our house here until last week.  A friend of ours bought it then…

Quilt # Two

Posted on June 11, 2013 at 7:52am 4 Comments

I finished the second graduation quilt for our niece; it is also a Yellow Brick Road out of the Marmalade fabric. I decided I should cut the batting for my friend/ long arm quilter; lo and behold, it was too short!  I work at a quilt shop and I can't cut my own batting?!?!  Anyway, I bought 20 fabrics in half yard cuts and I have been able to make 3 quilts out of it!! So I will use the short batting on the smaller quilt I made for me!  Good grief!

Flying Around!

Posted on May 30, 2013 at 10:00am 10 Comments

I feel like I am flying around! We flew to Colorado for our niece's high school graduation two weeks ago, then the next weekend we had a birthday party for me in our backyard so it was cleaning, weeding, planting, and painting. Then three days later we flew to Chicago for our granddaughter's first birthday, then we…

Ordered It!

Posted on April 5, 2013 at 1:27pm 1 Comment

I had to go to our Bernina store to get a quarter inch foot with the guide for my BabyLock so I ordered my Tutto Trolley and a little bag for the top.  I got turquoise because they didn't come in blue.  Can't wait for club so I can get everything organized and take it!

Found At Last

Right after Christmas I wanted to work on my Chocolate BonBons quilt  (which I have already posted a picture of in my Primitive Group).  I had made the flower applique pieces and put them in a safe place, but of course that was not it the plastic Artbin box with all of the other fabrics, the magazine that has the pattern, the bias stems I had already made.  I've been looking for the appliques everywhere.  Well, when my family and friends came for Easter I moved all the quilt blocks in…

I have been sewing all day, finishing a T-shirt quilt for a former student; I also taught with his mom.  Anyway, he is graduating from college this year. I don't feel old because my first class of second grade kids are 47 or 48!!!

The point is that…

Tutto Trolley, Anyone?

Posted on March 27, 2013 at 6:43am 12 Comments

Good morning! I am thinking of getting a Tutto Sewing Machine Trolley...basically luggage for a sewing machine.  I am going to "sew" many clubs and classes that I find my already sore hand, elbow, and shoulder are getting worse!! I injured my elbow and shoulder last summer gardening, and I have been trying to take it easy. Anyway, I was looking at the rolling sewing machine luggage and thought these look good.  Just wondering if anyone has one and how they like it.

Do I Need Another Passion !?! RUG HOOKING ? Really !?!

Posted on March 13, 2013 at 11:55am 3 Comments

Yesterday I began learning a new art.... RUG HOOKING! I have been wanting to start rug hooking for about 2 years, but I didn't think I needed One More Thing.   Well, we had "Woolies" at the shop where I work ( it's a hand sewing get together once a month & people hand quilt, English paper piece, rug hook, knit, wool applique, embroider, or whatever)  It's free - just show up.  There are basically…

Good to be back...

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 7:12pm 10 Comments

It's hard to believe I haven't been on Quilt With Us for almost 5 months. So much has happened; my beloved mother passed away after Christmas and I miss her terribly. Although she had a long good life and was healthy for most of her 91 years...I miss her.

Also my husband has decided to retire from his job in December of this year. We will be moving back home to Colorado, which we are really happy about.  We will be close to…

Thank you. DH and I had a wonderful and relaxing weekend at the beach, where I got the new hat (forgot all mine at home). I am happy and so blessed.

Thank you for your comments on my blog!  That is very kind of you to want to send me fabric! How wonderful!  That would be like Christmas only better because it's fabric, from a quilting friend and it's almost my birthday! Only if you truly are wanting to part with it and I would be happy to pay for shipping as it is quite expensive these days. Sad isn't it?  Anyway, you are correct in all your comments!  I need to get back to basics.  I wish I could convince those in my circle of life to sew but they don't and those that do (my MIL and one SIL) are over an hour away and busier than me! I had hoped they would want to get together once in a while but no such luck.  Oh well.  The Lord knows and He has always made a way for me.  Thank You for being so encouraging!

Thanks for the compliments on my niece's quilt.  The pattern is "Fireworks" by Nancy Smith and Lynda Milligan of "Possibilities".  The orginal pattern is wall hanging size with the blocks arranged as 4 circles. My niece preferred the "almost circles but not"  look.  I also doubled the number of blocks and added the last solid border to make it twin size.

Thanks for the tip! Don't know when I'm going to get to my "Over the River...". Everytime I think I'll have time, 6 projects get put in front of me that are for someone else. I came back from AZ with several projects from church and friends. My UFOs are on the back burner...again. I did get 1 UFO done...better than 0.

How exciting to have a little granddaughter on the way!  I'm still a few years away from that point, but I'm already saving quilt patterns and ideas for baby clothes and toys.
