I continue to be busy with my charity quilts and have added some new photos. I am using scraps up and learning new techniques. I am very happy with my scrappy happy Sarah's baby quilt.scrap%20happy%20Sarahs.JPG

Good morning!
At Road to California there was a special exhibit of the work of Susan Else. I have posted quite a few pics of her exhibit on my personal blog, www.karenstenback.wordpress.com .
Here is a pic of part of her exhibit. Her soft sculptures seemed to be getting most of the attention. There are more on my blog.
Have fun!

I lay there…every night…watching the spastic shapes from the glitter night light writhe across the ceiling trying so hard to quickly fall asleep for a few blasted hours or minutes before the alarm goes off. I’ve a warm dog tummy under my hand, a snoring man next to me…why am I not blissfully asleep? OK…picture a canvas…a nice big blank primed stretched canvas, and that’s it. With a matte black wall behind it, no distractions. No paints near, no marking accoutrements…just a lovely naked…

Ok that would be pie wedges any way. One of the most intimadating patterns that I've ever considered has turned out to be one of the easier ones to make. Go figure. I thought everyone would like a look at the progress on the Mariners Compass quilt. The center blocks are now pieced together and the inner border attached. I came up with a pattern for the middle border that I will be working on in the next few days. If I had known it would look this good I would have made it bigger to fit…

Victoria with my DH. I have picture of me holding the quilt but he takes lousy pictures. Totally inept in the technical department. She gets to keep the quilt while visiting us, then when she's too old to continue visiting us, she can take the quilt home with…

I was thinking to seeing what my local or a local guild is like. Has anyone been to one? What was your experience with them? Liked them, not like them?
Tomorrow night is The Algonquin Quilters' Guild meeting. I also think there is one in Elgin and maybe one in Woodstock, not sure.…

I am really enjoying The Quilt Show web site - are any of you familiar with it? Great information, videos, classes, etc. It does cost to join, but I thought it worth it.
They have BOM's (Block of the Month) starting for 2012, and complete patterns from previous years. Once you are a member, the BOM patterns are free. I'm gong to make the 2012 one, in the bright colors for my daughter, and another one in greens, blues, purple…

Once Upon a Meadow is the title of this lovely quilt, appliqued and pieced by the guild's members. Take a peek.

Here is my guild challenge quilt for 2011. We are the Happy Quilters of Laurens County (Georgia). Each of us was given a packet of the same fabrics; we had to use every one of them, and we could add as many as we wanted. And here's a link to see the others if you would like:…

On Saturday I had a bunch of friends over for wine, hors d'oeurves and desserts and while making everything I started playing around with this chocolate dip stuff you get at the grocery store. After dipping my stawberries, I had so much chocolate left over I then dip'd those Grissini bread stricks and with more chocolate left over, I pulled out my marshmellows and started…

I got a request from my neice for another quilt. She has gotten 2 because she asked for the second quilt when she out grew the baby quilt, she was about 4 when she asked me for a new quilt because hers was too small. She is now 18 and has been sick for 2 years, the docs can't figure out what is wrong with her. On Friday she goes to Mayo clinic in Minn. for more tests. She has had some kind of seizures. My sister has taken care of her and her 4th grade son with a full time hubby. You know…

Am I crazy? I've lost a quilt - even lost the picture I had of it!! I made a quilt and it was on our bed all summer. I remember taking it off the bed...but where in the world did I put it?
It's not with my other quilts, I've been all over the house -- and now have realized I don't even have a picture of it. I keep photos of all of my quilts, apparently didn't remember to take that one?
How can I lose a queen sized quilt? I'm sure it will turn up in a really obvious place…

I'm really looking forward to spending time on this site -- so many interesting groups, blogs, etc etc! Blogging is a new experience for me, should be fun.
I hope to be posting pictures of my quilts to share with everyone.

If you aren't familiar with this quilting tradition, the idea is to use lots of fabrics that depict objects a child might be familiar with: animals, foods, toys, flowers, etc. You tell the child, "I spy a (name of object)" and let them find it in the quilt. It's a game, but it's also a way for a small child to increase his or her vocabulary.…

Wow...two blogs in one day! I was just settling down earlier to chat on line with Irene when my cell phone rang. It was one of the agencies I had been trying to reach. I just sent a message to Irene apologizing for cutting her off. I told her that to get an agency to return your call is major!
I've been trying to find a caregiver for myself in Ohio. I have a caregiver while I'm here in Arizona. For the past 2 years I've been handling my own medical care and not doing a very good job.…

I ordered three acid-free storage boxes from this company SAR sarichards1@earthlink.net
They are the nicest boxes...heavy acid-free boxes plus 30 sheets of acid-free tissue paper. I was able to put a double size quilt and a large afghan in each box.
They are not cheap $35/ea. but so worth it. I am making wedding boxes for the two gdsons(3 and 5) so want to store these in a safe place. I will refolded them a couple of times a year.
I like to hear from others about…

Soooooo..... I was digging into my stash for my next project (for me "stash" includes all kits purchased as well as fabric) and what to my wonderous eyes should appear a kit that is EXACTLY the same pattern as my teacup quilt in Christmas fabrics!! All those flying geese squawking at me!! Do I dare?? Maybe I should wait til the fall...closer to Christmas. LOL Don't do today what you can put off till tomorrow! I think, for now, I shall cut scraps, reorganize, dream and when my head clears…
