As we get older, we start to loose our friends. Last summer Hal passed away. I was shocked when Pastor called me with the news. Then in November before coming to Arizona my friend Carol passed away from lung cancer. And now this past Wednesday my friend Linda passed away. Linda suffered from diabetes and had gotten an infection in her foot a couple years ago. That infection never healed and little by little her leg was amputated. Last winter when I was here in Arizona I was in charge…Continue
This is the quilt I made for DBIL and his wife for Christmas; did not finish in time so took it home and finished 2 weeks later. Used CT collection from about 3 years ago, Irresistible Indigo 2. I love this collection colors but have no use for it in my home so made a gift. I made one mistake; I used churn dash pattern with sashing between blocks which created more work because of the quilting method I used, Reversible Quilts: Two At A Time by Sharon Pederson, a "quilt as you go"…Continue
Just 28 days from today our Miss Bailey will be two year old! It doesn't seem like that long ago when all of us were praying so hard for her to make a safe entry into this world and that mama Jenna would be okay. God has blessed us so richly. Today I finished a little daypack for her. Of course I need to find lots of fun things to fill it with. I know I will be getting some bracelets for her as…Continue
I have been busy with applique I have a deadline to get this done had started last year but after Aug and had a little break during Christmas to get the swaps done.
It was alot of prep work with all the flowers and leaves and then the binding. I am on the last basket of flowers then I will piece it all together and start appliquing the boarders, they are all prepped and ready to start.
Thought I would give my fingers a little break and show you. This quilt is from the Fon`s and…
I can't tell you how many times I've tried to do flying geese, and everytime the perfect goose eluded me. 3 years of sewing and until yesterday I puzzled over how to make them work. I've taken classes, I've asked teachers, I've discussed it with my fellow quilters...the responses were the same.."did you draw the line?, did you sew exactly? Did you use the ruler?" blah blah blah...LOL but no solutions. At BOTM in January I was faced with more of those geese...argh...I decided to really dig…Continue
i've been thinking, quilting is like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. Small pieces that go together to make a bigger picture, hopefully. You can't break anything or hurt anything. You just work at getting it to look nice. I think that is a good attitude. I really can't hurt my quilt, I can only make a mistake and rip it out. Heaven knows I did a lot of that when I made my own clothes and my daughters. No harm done! Will have all day tomarrow to start sewing and that is the most fun for me.…Continue
I caught a cold and have been out of commission in doing anything in the house including sewing / quilting. Anyone else just curl up on the coach and do nothing?
If you love embroidery and have not found www.emblibrary.com. , Embroidery Library, you are missing out on some free designs every month and this week-end only even more free snow patterns. Wished I had more time to make them all up into a quilt.
That would be lying. It has snowed in the northwest. Yes I know, those of you who live here have noticed that. Our snow once every 20 years came a couple of years late, but it came none the less. I hate the snow and blame my daughter for all this snow. She loves it and went snowboarding last week. With the snow came the ice rain which now that it is melting is causing havoc with the power lines and bringing down trees that can't hold the weight of the ice and snow, hence the no sewing,…Continue
I love looking at old photos collected on historical internet sites like KansasMemory.org. One of the most famous photos, that of a woman gathering cow chips, depicts the typical life of a pioneer woman in many people’s minds.
Here’s this woman, stuck out on the Western Kansas plains, with…Continue
My friend had asked me to make a wall hanging quilt for her SIL who loves horses. Her SIL had surgery for her breast cancer 2 years ago and is now on the road the recovery. The FMQ is still not as great as I would like it to be, and I was quite unsure of how much the fabrics would shrink after washing the quilt to remove the stencil marks, but the outcome came out okay. Here is DH showing the quilt.…Continue
I am getting ready to leave for the Road to California quilt show. I'm really excited to go. I will be taking a class from Sue Spargo while I am there - it's the first time I have ever taken a class at a quilt show, so I'm really looking forward to it.
On my personal blog I have placed a link to the quilt show, and a pic of one of the Hoffman Challenge quilts, which will be on display there -…Continue
I need advice...want to design a label for two quilts for our grandsons. Do I use:
Each stitch represents a memory shared
Every stitch represents a memory shared
Thanks for the help!
Good morning, God. I am trusting in You that this will be a good day. I have to go to the dentist, my feet are already swollen (again), and my body hurts as always. But thank you Lord Jesus...my massage therapist comes this afternoon! Praises for all the blessings You give me! My caregiver Barb, spent the afternoon with me yesterday to start working out a diet plan. Barb has been a great friend to me. What a treasure and blessing! Yesterday we also lost a good friend, Linda S. Please…Continue

Between chain store fabrics and quilt shop fabrics which one fades the quickest when exposed to constant sunlight?
