No sewing yet

Didn't get to sew on Sunday like I had hoped. My back was giving me fits and I thought I better rest it for awhile. Besides, I am a little nervous about starting the big S. I will get my courage up this coming weekend, tho. I have my mind made up. I keep looking at the pieces and re-reading the directions. Maybe I'll have some idea of what I am doing by the time I start. I know I can do it. It is just a matter of convincing the little doubt shadow that follows me around sometimes. Will keep…

Block of the month setting

I have assembled one set of blocks from my quilt group (Sussex - Wantage Quilt club).

I also made this quilt for our neighbor's little girl. She likes dogs and draws them this way. The pattern is from Quilt Almanac 2012 from the editors of Quilt magazine.

Curtains to Tote Bag

I had a set of valances made from decorator fabric all lined. Knew I'd use the fabric someday for a project. Needed a large tote bag to carry a queen quilt that I'm hand stitching. We are heading to Fl. next week, so decided to recycle the curtains. Had to piece (reason for strip across center) together and bought a sport zipper. It'll be a handy bag and FREE!!!…

Iowa Comfort

Just wanted to share what a great time I am having making quilts of comfort for my community.  Although I don't make all the tops myself, I have done all the quilting on the 3 that we have completed and will also quilt the one that I am working on now.

I started with my own scraps, then people donated fabric for the cause.  Local quilters have taken kits home and sewn up the tops. The local quilt shop donated backing fabric.  We are making bed size quilts that are going to the local…

Tip of the Day---How do you store your downloads projects?

I have tried different methods to store my downloads projects/ patterns and I still seem to have a mess or spend hours trying to find it again. I have been using notebooks with tabs, and Avery protector sheet to group projects. Today I even put a quilt pattern and its parts in protector sheet  when the brown envelope it has been in for years was for ever lost. Now I need  to group my (paper) sewing projects.  What is your method?

About the time Mom decided to spend winter with my sister,

I stumbled upon Gone with the Wind fabric.…

Getting Ready To Quilt Today!

I am gearing up for a long week of power quilting! Mancave is off to Nebraska on Thurs through Sunday for a trip as coach of his Forensics Speech team from the high school. Perfect timing! I have four-count them-FOUR quilts I need to finish in the next month or so. One is a Christmas present-excuse me, promised Christmas present that I have to deliver on Feb 6th. So far, I am on a good pace with that one. I have the blocks all done, squared and half of them are framed. So, working on my own…

High Fiber—Obsession

The past week has seen me obsessed with colorwork.

I've been working on the Knit Picks Dogwood Blossoms sweater. I'm going to make it as a drop-shoulder cardigan, a style that looks better on me than the design with capped sleeves. I'm also adjusting the colors some, eliminating "Almond" and adding "Nutmeg" (discontinued) "Sweet Potato" and…

Extra long hot pad

I never quite trust my table runner to protect my table from heat. I'm always putting something else under them, so decided it was time to make a runner with insul-bright. It is going to be great. I made it 17x50 to use it on table or counter. Had a piece of a scrappy quilt to use!…

Second project with my new 440 QE

Here it is:  the elf wallhanging from a kit I purchased at a quilt shop Christmas 2010.  I put it away for the "right" time and with the incentive of the new machin e, the time was definitely right!  The project was mostly piecing -- it has thin batting, a backing and and binding strip, of course, but not much quilting.  I tried the "hand quilting" feature of my machine on this (around the edge of the white backing -- with red thread) but it wasn't too successful.  I need more…

My latest quilt top

The other day, which looking for something else,  I found a set of star blocks that I received as part of an internet exchange back in 2003.  So I decided to get them out, add a few blocks to them and make a nice lap sized quilt.  I'm very happy with how this turned out and hope to get it quilted before the end of summer.  We had to make 12" stars with cream background & green focus fabrics.   I think they all go together amazingly well. I used the yellow to give it a bit of punch and…

Quilt Class

It was great!!! It was also a little weird walking in and they know my name by heart! I do wished that there was some ladies there my age! But, oh well.  The quilt we are making is called Undercover Houston VIII , I don't know what it looks like until we finish it. But the colors I picked out are going to work great in it , at least that is what I was told.…

Finally, Pieced and Ready to Quilt!

Yes, the King quilt for our bed made from the CT Birtchtree Lane collection is at last pieced and ready to quilt! It has taken way longer to get to this point than originally anticipated; but IMHO the results are worth it. To be fair, I was away from home more than at home last year with taking care of our daughter and her boys after her knee surgeries and then visiting a new granddaughter. Then of course there were all the "other" projects that needed my undivided attention, then came the…

Cat Wallhanging

I finally got my wallhanging done.  I took my time on it the last 2 weeks because my friend isn't completely done with my gift.  I think I ripped more than I sewed though.  My goal is to make 3 quilts for my little girls for Christmas next year.  I found a cute cat pattern so we'll see how it goes.  Sometimes my intentions are good but getting them done is another story.  My DGS loved his apron that I made him for Christmas.  He put it on as soon as he opened it and it didn't come off all…
