This wall hanging was made from 9 Dresden plate blocks from the 1940s. I bought them from a friend with an antique store. Each block was made of 4 smaller fan blocks, so I took the big blocks apart and rearranged the fans into the baby bunting pattern. The fans were appliquéd on muslin and looked a little drab, so I appliquéd the blue quarter circles on each fan to perk them up a bit. It’s machine pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted and measures about 31” square. …Continue
We're having some nice weather, with temperatures in the 50-60ºF range (in January!), so on Saturday, we took the pups to the dog park.
It is a nice sunny morning here in the East but very cold. Good weather to sit and sew. But lately I have found that other things have been chewing up my time and keeping me from my sewing room. I'm working on another baby quilt. I have a lot of UFO's to finish once these quilts are done.
I'm enjoying the quilting guild that I joined a year ago. We have a page on F B. It's called St. Croix International Quilters. Lots of pictures to see.
I belong to three sewing groups. I get…Continue
On Sunday, we finally had some real snow here in Bend. I think it was a little over an inch.
Snowstorms definitely lend themselves to getting a few projects done. Had several blocks leftover from other projects. So, I made up some hotpad runners for both houses and hostess gifts. Kept me out of the refrigerator!!! We leave next week for FL. I can feel the tan coming!!!…Continue
You midwesterners just had to share the white stuff...we are predicted to get 12-20inches here in Syracuse. Decided to beat the storm surge at the grocery and liquor stores, so we went yesterday to stock up. I also stopped by the fabric store to buy a few yards for an UFO that I want to take to FL. I'm not always in the pool! So...let it snow...we're ready!…Continue
So previously I posted a picture of my version of the broken star quilt that I will never make again. See photo below. Today I spent most of the day learning how to use the Cricut Maker that I bought last year. I posted a photo before of the designs that I wanted to put onto this quilt. Well I finally got them cut out and ready to transfer to the quilt. I've put in a request to use my daughters floor sense she has a big house and open floor space to lay out the quilt and trace the…Continue
I have this pattern called Sheep Shape baby quilt. When I go to print off the templates,it has a "legend" at the bottom of page - it's a straight line that is to measure 2 inches. When I print off the template, the line is only 1 3/4". I am printing at 100% like it says to do - my question is, will my pattern still work? One lady at a quilt shop said "no"it won't. but I can't find anyone or anywhere to answer my question. Can someone please help e? My daughter wants this quilt for her baby.…Continue
It has been a rough two weeks. My "flu" turned out to be pneumonia, and then, before I was recovered, I caught a cold from DH. Each day is a little better, though, and I'm finally able to sleep at night, propped up on pillows. I've made some progress on the Nurmilintu Shawl, though.
On January 11 my dear husband lost the fight with glioblastoma cancer,
less than 5 months from when it was discovered.
He handled this battle in an amazing way.
He died peacefully in his…Continue
I thought I was down to one UFO. Much to my surprise I found a drawer with three more. There is definitely funny business going on in my sewing room. So, I need to separate the male UFOs from the females, or I'll never find the end! Have a great week!
This has been the weirdest winter so far. Lots of snow at Thanksgiving & then barely any for the entire month of December. Then yesterday we were really hit! We lost power for 4 hrs last night. Thank goodness for quilts & a fireplace! Our lights keep dimming this morning so I sure hope we don't lost power again. We have a lot of broken branches & it appears our neighbors do as well. It is continuing to come down so I suspect it will be a few days before we will be able to…Continue
I finished this baby quilt on New Year’s Day, so I’m hoping it’s a good omen for quilts to come. I purchased this vintage top at a white elephant sale last summer for $4. What a buy! It was long and skinny and needed some pep. After taking it apart and handwashing the embroidered blocks, I saw, very faintly, some background printing on block 9. Turns out that the maker used bleached flour sacks from the Great American Pacific Tea Company (otherwise know as the A & P) for her fabric. I…Continue
Several years ago I bought Judy Martin's Log Cabin Quilts book with the goal of making some of the quilts in it. One that really caught my eye was the Snake River Log Cabin so I decided I was going to make it in a king size. Well I finally started it, but it didn't take long for reality to set in so I ended up making the wallhanging instead. This is 53" square and has 1406 pieces in it. The king size has over 7000! I'm very happy with how this turned out. …Continue
just went to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year. Enjoy reading all the posts and being inspired.
Jan in 16 degree below zero Minnesota
I want to wish all of my QWU friends a very happy and prosperous 2019. I don't do resolutions per se, but I do hope to continue making a dent in my UFOs, WIPS and HSSYS (haven't started yet). Time will tell how successful I am.
