thanks for the birthday wishes

I have had such a great birthday this yr.  We made a trip to Las Vegas to see our 2 sons & 4 grandkids who still live here.  We had not seen them since we moved to MO in Dec of '08.  Wayyyy toooo long to go w/out hugging those grandkids!  We are leaving tomorrow to drive to Wickenburg AZ to visit friends who also used to live in Las Vegas and then will be heading home on Wed.

Coming to terms with ones machine....

I finally finished the first Peppermint candy quilt started last year.  And some of you thought you were bad about getting things done!  Ok so I blame everything on the LA machine.  As many of you know I've had issues, (OK alot of issues, but we won't go there), with my LA.  I never could seem to get the tension right or even close on the machine.  I had even talked to the owner of the company that makes the machine.  Sence then, I've tinkered with it and tried a bit of this and that.  I did…

In search of certain fabric - HELP !!!!

I am looking for the fabric shown in the Baby Lock ad on the back of the April 2011 issue of BH&G American Patchwork & Quilting.  My son and future daughter-in-law's wedding is a yellow and blue.  The fabric shown in this ad would be perfect for some of the decorating ideas we have for the wedding.  If anyone recognizes that fabric, please let me know where I might find it.  Thanks !!!

Hand Quilting

I was asked today how much I would charge to hand quilt a queen size quilt.  I have no clue what-so-ever.  I told my client that I would surely find out.  So I am coming to the only place I know to come.  My dear friends full of knowledge, how do I figure a price for hand quilting?  I manage a tax office and we are really slow right now so I have brought my quilting with me.  This gets lots of questions and then I get to talk about my quilts and all the ones I have seen or want to make. …

Would you want a pattern for this quilt if it were free?

I am thinking of offering a free pattern for the quilt shown on the picture at www.freequiltpatterns.info. I have never done this before - do you think anybody would be interested? The quilt is free motion quilted and I can tell you: the large daisy in the bottom right corner is nothing for the faint hearted... ;-)

The quilt is named after the Greek island of Skiathos. I spent a day there last May and a bar over the harbour was decorated…

I need help with a few phone calls

Morning to all,

I called the state of Alaska this morning to see if they were offering a reward for missing snow.  No takers on that one.  I figure if we all pick a state, country we can find out who is missing all their snow and have them come and get it.  Ok I've had enough of the white stuff. Having ventured out when I thought it was raining, I wanted to get to the LQS for some thread to finish a quilt top.  By the time I got there, my blue car was white.  I'm so glad I'm not…

What Will The Next Chapter Bring?

For those of you who read chapter 15 of The Ties That Bind on www.rkmquilts.com, were you surprised? I thought the mention of "the bag" in the last chapter might have given it all away, but from the emails I received I still had you on the hook wondering about one of the "mystery men" running around Roseville.

I promise you the suspense is building on his storyline. Just because you know who the man is, doesn't mean I am going to wrap it up that… Continue

Hello!

Been a couple weeks since I've posted to this site.  I may not always post, but I do enjoy reading and commenting on others posts.  Anyway to get you up to speed, I will start with the fun I had on one of my 3 annual retreats.  I worked deligently on 3 projects but sorry to say I didn't complete any of them.  I find myself "socializing" a lot more at these retreats especially since I've retired!  After all, I can sew everyday at home by myself, but since I've retired I don't always get my…

This is my last week with Sarak. DH took her skiing.

Don't they look cute together? (for more on Sarak, see last week's blog.)

We have had a lot of snow in the past week After a snowstorm we often see moose checking out the roads for salt. Here's one Rocky let me know about:

The last group of three were 32yr. old medical residents...I can understand how hard it must be to have that age child return home! They want to party all night and of course are loud! or I'm getting old!! lol Have a great Monday...I actually don't mind the laundry today...b/c they're GONE!!!… Continue

See you all in a little while

Hello, friends, this is just to let you know that I'll be off line for awhile.  I'm heading to surgery tomorrow to have my third total knee replacement.  (She has three knees?  No, but that's a long story.)  My surgeon is going to make the left one match the right one, I hope.  It will be nice to walk evenly again, and I'm sure my hips and back will be delighted.  It will be nice to finally ditch the cane.  Hmmm ... I think I will have a formal cane-burning ceremony!  Maybe there'll be…

A Rippin' Good Tale

White pebble or black pebble day?

In a novel, I read that the ancient Greeks decided each night before they went to bed whether the day had been a good (= white pebble) day or a bad (= black pebble) day. The white or black pebble was then thrown into an urn. At the end of each month, the urn was overturned and the month analyzed based on the number of white and black pebbles.

I think that this a lovely idea and although I neither own an urn nor a substantial number of pebbles, I do ask myself sometimes before going to…

Quilt block challenge

A friend asked if I would make a wall hanging for her front foyer.  Since I always seem more motivated making things for other people, I agreed.  What I hadn't anticipated, however, was the path this little project would take.

I started by picking out a sample of quilt blocks that I thought would work well as a wall hanging for a foyer.  Since this would be hanging at the second story level, I chose those blocks with large graphics that could easily show case large…

today

To my dear friends and family near and very far (Winnie!) who remembered me with cards, gifts, calls, and emails, thank you for a lovely  Bd!
Laura bought me a very pretty birthstone necklace and  Ben a beautiful yellow begonia. Dinner out was great, and we returned home to chocolate fudge birthday cake and wine.

I am truly blessed.

T-shirt quilt in memory of my son

I have a lot of t-shirts that belong to my late son (it will be 13 years on March 4th), but I'm quite intimidated with the thought of cutting them up. I know that if I keep them longer, they'd fade, at the same time I didn't want to wear them out by wearing them.

It's one of those projects I do want to make in his memory. Perhaps I should ask one of you dear friends on QWU if you'd help me out.
