My husband's father always said "if the snow lays around it will snow again." But no snow predicted by the weatherman. My hubby has two doctor appointments today. He broke his leg nine months ago and is 80% healed but it has been a long ordeal. With me not being able to see well enough to drive it hampered us a bit. I have been listening to my recorded books since about 5:00. I am an early riser and an early to bedder (is that a word) too. My Beau dog doesn't like to get his feet wet so this… Continue

Took a different route walking today, the wind was so cold. Unbelievable at how fast we walked today LOL. Now I know I have been going on about this mess I have made in my sewing room, but it is almost cleaned up. I discovered a dress that I had cut out to sew, now I am not saying it was old, but it was a size 14. I think I was that size for about 6 months, 30 years ago LOL.
The other thing I came across was Irons, I actually have 5 irons, now that is more than the number of sewing… Continue

Here is my latest project... finally finished. About 8 years ago, a friend made a quilt just like this one and I made a deal with her that I would quilt her quilt if she would give me her left over blocks. Needless to say, she jumped on it and we made the deal. It has taken me 8 years to actually get to the project and she had made almost ALL of the blocks I needed and what I still had to make, she had already cut the pieces so it was way easier… Continue

I decided Friday night that I would take my sweet husband out for Mexican. Then, about 4:00, I emailed my daughter to see if they wanted to come, and then emailed my stepson to see if they wanted to join us. Both kids decided they would after I said we would pay! Gotta love them. Both couples are expecting, my daughter was three days overdue, and my daughter-in-law has six weeks to go. At some point during dinner I noticed a look go between my daughter and husband, and he looked at his watch.… Continue

I had a GREAT weekend! First, Friday was the Puyallup, WA SewExpo. I've been there approx 12 years in a row, so I rarely see something new, but I did pick up a couple of patterns and a few crazy quilt embellishments. Had lunch with Judy and Laraine, missed Darlene entirely because she was taking classes.
Then started the weekend. My non quilting friend, Eileen, has a birthday that coincides with this show, so every year I leave Puyallup and drive one more hour or so to Seattle and… Continue

It seems as if we are going to have more snow to deal with here on Long Island! I am not sure if my school district will be closed -- but most of the surrounding districts have already announced that they will be closed tomorrow (Monday 3/2/09). Long Island is supposed to get 10-14 inches of snow! The sander/salter truck has already been up and down the street where I live -- so I guess this is going to be a big storm. The snow is falling here now as I write this (9:00 PM) -- it is very… Continue

We got home from our bus trip at 5:30PM. We were about 4 hours early getting home. We came home to very cold weather and a few inches of snow. But it is good to be home. We saw and lot of things and my husband enjoyed it as he didn't have to drive. It is washing tomorrow and then on to a pillowcase dress. The birthday party is Saturday. I would love to go to the quilt show in Paduach in April, but everything has been booked a year in advanced. Maybe next year. Happy March 1, 2009

The show was fabulous! I wish I had taken 2 days to see it all. There were tons of gorgeous quilts and lot of vendors. My favorite buy was believe it or not a silicone ironing board cove. I have an antique ironing board with the original cover. I just put this over top plus an awesome pad I got from the same vendor and ironing is a dream. I got to meet several members of another online group and my DH and I got some shopping and fine dining done in Williamsburg. We had nice accommodations at an… Continue

I wrote this earlier only I am not sure where I wrote it at since I cant find it. I am looking to find the name of the Aritst that does Landscape and Scenic Pictures that have quilts in them. I have seen these at many quilt shows and quilt fairs. I do not have any idea who this is that makes this. They are Beautiful pictures I am looking to add some to my sewing room. I am hoping someone on here will have a idea of who I am talking about and where I might be able to find them… Continue

I went to the quilt show and had a blast. I was quite upset though when half way thru my camera died. I had brought every charger in my house but the one to my camera. I was so unhappy. I saw so many beautiful quilts and bought some awesome material. I took my mom and my youngest daughter with me. My mom does not quilt but she said she had a really good time. I cant wait to go to another one.

Thought I'd put a few more pictures of quilts I have made on my page. I chose these because I'm ready for Spring! I think it is time for the world around me to be colored something other than white, gray, and dormant grass green! I don't have any Spring bulbs planted, so I can't look for any shoots to be popping out of the ground. One lady in church this morning told me that she has crocuses poking through, so that is a very good sign! I hope they are wearing their long underwear, tho, because… Continue

Good Sunday morning to all. We have a beautiful sunny cold day here in Northern Illinois. Just got back from Mass that was celebrated for my Mom and Dad. Of course, we had to stop for breakfast at Cracker Barrel with a gentleman from church and my sister. That is our usual Sunday morning routine.
Today I really need to get my thoughts together on what I need to get ready for vacation. I kept thinking it's not until March....but March snuck up on me big time. I can't believe that 2 months… Continue

I received an e-mail from one of the friends I have here on QWU. I am urging anyone that has a few extra pieces of material, some time, and a lot of love for this country to look up the site and see if there is a group in your area that you can help out with. Quilts of Valor give quilts to returning soldiers. They are a deserving bunch and if there isn't a group in your area write them an e-mail and they will get back to you in a timely manner. Read the testimonials if you dont believe that… Continue

A few weeks ago while surfing the Internet I came across a free pattern for baby shoes. http://www.maked.ca/tutorials.html
A friend of mine just had her first baby a couple of days ago and I thought for fun I would try making a pair. After making the first shoe, they are very addicting!! Being reversible makes them… Continue

This was a planter of "baby"cacti at a gas station outside of the Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ area. Tall & Handsome and I had pulled into the station to fuel up on our way towards Williams, AZ and our train trip to the Grand Canyon.
For an East Tennessee born, Alabama raised gal, who's lived her life in a humid, lush green environment, this is about as green as I saw out West. Yep, with cactus, big and small and silvery green scrub.… Continue

Hi everyone. What a glorious morning it looks to be. The sun is shining, the birds are busy at the feeder making a mess, and leaving lots for the ground feeders to clean up in spring. And the weather forcast is calling for gradually rising temperatures. That I can live with.
The view in the western sky a couple of nights ago, was spectacular. We had a sliver of moon that was so close to Venus, it was nearly hooking onto it with the tip. And Venus was so very bright. By last night… Continue

Another bright and cold day here in southeasteren Ontario. I managed to walk 5 out of the past 6 days and am still living YEAH!
I am still trying to fight my way through the mess I have created in my sewing room and there is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Good news is I found a piece of material that looks like weathered paint that I can use for the Lighthouse on the centre block I have to do for the guild's anniversary quilt.
I have also created 2 Candy drawers. This is… Continue
