Order received

My first Essential Pro thread order came yesterday and I am so excited.  My niece was here and we can't wait to get our first quilts loaded to try it out.  She even convinced me to let her take one of the spools for a quilt she had waiting at home to be quilted.  Love the feel and look - Kiwi and Orange Spice were the favorite of the colors ordered.

As an update on our Pastor's daughter Kari, she is still having to undergo dialysis and she has her up and down days.  She was…

Busy As A Bee...bzzz...bzzz...

Yoohoo! Today is the day I get to pack for my big quilt retreat! I am so excited that I woke up at 5:30 am and am blogging here before 6! (Don't let me fool you, this is with a little coffee on the side...but you all know me well enough to know that probably is a given.)

Actually, the craft room closet cleaning took me a little longer than expected yesterday which held me up a bit. Then, I got the bright idea of "evaluating" my fabric. I hauled it ALL into the livingroom and for the… Continue

A depressing moment at the LQS

I went out for coffee with my DD this morning at the Borders Book store. It's half way between where she works and goes to college at.  Being that we are both getting over the flu, things went as well as could be expected.  We decided to wander around the store for a while talking about things we keep forgetting to mention to each other. I've added her to my insurance at work so that she will have medical insurance now until she turns 26. Then she slaps me in the face with, "Mom, I'll be 26…

Time to head north...

It never fails...we are always fighting the weather! lol  We have had two wonderful months of sun and warm and will be heading into thunderstorms and a big snow storm on Friday into PA and NY!!! Welcome back! Luckily, we don't have to be anywhere until next week...but when you're headed home, that's where you want to be the shortest time possible! Will it ever give it up???

One thing about packing to go home, you don't have to decide what to take...it all has to go! Why did I buy so…

Quilt Top Completed!

Good Morning,

Here's the completed quilt top for my son and future DIL.  I put on the last border Monday night, but had to wait for a break in the rain to put it out on the clothes line for a picture.  A special "Thank You" to Janice Aitkens for her blog about the Delectable Mountains pattern.  I want to take a machine quilting class at our local quilt shop, then I may tackle quilting this.  The wedding isn't until summer 2012, so I have awhile to decide.…

Now, Where Did I Put That?

It started out as many reasonable ideas do...I would simply open up the craft room closet and "look around" for my little screw-on cup holder that I always take to retreats. My sister bought it for me many years ago when we were both big scrapbookers. It's very handy for holding not only your beverage, but also a little trash bag for your scraps. Maybe some of you have one.

So, there I was finishing I think my third or fourth cup of coffee yesterday morning when I knew the time had… Continue

Machine quilting table

Good morning,

I woke up waaaaaaay too early this morning and in my boredom, I came across this really interesting way to make your kitchen or dining room into a machine quilting table:

http://www.instructables.com/id/Machine-Quilting-Table-Leaf/

Basically you build a new leaf for your kitchen table, but include a dropped box for your machine so your quilts have plenty of…

A real quandary ...

What do you do with 1and 1/4 cups of white sugar and 1 and 1/4 cups of brown sugar mixed ?????

Perhaps I should start at the beginning. Over March Break to those in Ontario,  Canada  -- Spring Break for those who live in the U.S., we had our 9 year old granddaughter here for the week. It was a busy week to say the least. The day before she went home was our "Nana and Kat  Day ". So we started out to make chocolate chip cookies from my mother's recipe. Kat was reading the recipe and…

We Have Everything Because We Have Each Other

Every year since I have been a member of QWU I have posted my wedding anniversary date.  Well it has rolled around again and today DH and I have been married 43 years.  This year, this morning, he gave me a card that on the front has a pic of two cats sitting on a bench looking at the moon and stars and the title says "We've got everything"  and when I opened it up it says "Because We Have Each Other".    Then he said in his own writing that he hopes I have a good day and that he hopes we can… Continue

Retreat Time Again

Well, what can I say, I am soooo excited to be going back to this retreat.  I have been preparing for a little over a week, cutting out projects, packing and unpacking my retreat box.  Repacking my retreat box, then unpacking it again!  Ugh!

What do I want to work on, how many project can I get ready to take with me?  Do I have everything I need?  Have I made a list?  Of course!  I don't trust myself to remember EVERYTHING!  I think I have 7 or 8 projects ready to go, cut, labled,…

Three Days And Counting...

If you have ever gone to a quilting retreat, this blog will sound very familiar to you...

Yesterday, I started my official packing for my three day quilt retreat coming up this weekend at a nearby conference center. There is no cell phone connection, no tv and basically no contact with the outside world during the time I am there. Mr. Man Cave has been there on retreats with the high schoolers and when I asked what his impression was, his only remark was "primitive".

Well,… Continue

He's home!!!

Hi:

I cannot believe that I have been away for so long.  Between taking care of myself after and accident and being worried about my boys out in this world of the Army time just flies.  Baby L will be 1 this week, yes one year has gone by!  She's crawling, and pulling up onto things and saying Mama.  She laughs so sweetly you can't help but smile with her.

Well here's a pic of my son with our Grandson at the homecoming last night.  We are so grateful for the…

Antique Quilt Jackpot!

My brother and his family just returned to Oregon this week from their Spring Break trip to North Dakota.  They drove to ND to pick up some keepsakes my 98-year-old Grandma wanted to hand over to us.  Imagine how thrilled I was to discover one of the items was a huge trunk containing eight old quilts.  All are documented -- three are from the civil war era and the rest are from the late 1800s through the 1930s.  Beautifully made and preserved.  Stunning, stunning, stunning!  A Tree of Life…

One of days

This is just one of those days when the sewing room keeps calling to me.  I'm supposed to be cleaning, and I am, but every time I pass by my sewing room, it keeps saying "come on in for a while."  So of couse I can't tell it no,  I don't hear the kitchen saying the same thing to me so I go sew for a while longer.  Amazing how much you can get done just working for 10 or 15 minutes at a time, especially on a project that you're really enjoying.  Hope you're all having a good Monday.

High Fiber--Finishing Fiber Projects

Our Common Threads group had a small attendance last week.

This is the time of year many Park City residents leave town. The skiing is starting to decline, the snow is starting to melt and opportunities for recreation start to dry up...or wet up might be a better term. (We call it "Mud Season." I'll let you guess why.)

However, Lynda and I showed up at Karan's house, Lynda sporting her crocheted vest made from the yarn… Continue
