I’ve spent the last four months hand quilting this quilt top, made by my great-great grandmother, Anne Powell Coonley (1820-1916). This is third of Grandma Coonley’s quilt tops I’ve completed, with three more to go. I would estimate it was sewn between 1880-1900 and it’s pretty fragile. Grandma Coonley was quite the proper lady and not one you messed with. Her granddaughter, my maternal grandmother, was scared to death of her! But because she was so revered (or feared), many of her…Continue
We had a challenge on the Piece Around the World group to see how many scraps we could use in 1 project. We had to use a minimum of 40, which sounds like a lot, but really isn't. We also had to have half square triangles be the main design element. This was a fun challenge to do. I looked through all my books & found this table runner in the Big Book of Table Toppers by Martingale. It is called Window Pane. Mine has 69 fabrics in it including the background fabric.…Continue
How about that! I promised myself I wasn't starting another project until all UFOs were in an active stage. I have one at the lake that I'm hand quilting and one here at the house that I'm hand quilting. This one I'm machine quilting for a retirement gift. She has been Gary's right hand lady...she will be greatly missed.
Since summer is upon us...I'll end with this:…Continue
Because a special knitter is visiting, I cast on a shawl we were both planning to make:
We had an important birthday this past week. Daphne and Zachary had rehearsals for their dance recitals on Tuesday, so she had her cake on Sunday.
My husband & I are going to New Orleans next month to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, which also falls on Father's Day. I wanted either a purse or a tote that was bright & cheery to take along so I went through my stash & found these 2 fabrics. The tote is the Candice tote by Lazy Girl designs. As you can see in the 2nd picture, the front is also a pocket. I like to carry my credit cards & cash in those little zippered pouches so I made one of those to match.…Continue
I added a few photos of some of my projects from the last couple years up to current WIPs.
How is everyone doing? Since my last post I inherited a serious quilters fabric stash. I've made a few quilts, currently quilting a sailboat quilt for my grandson who will soon be 5 yrs old. The youngest grandson will soon be 2 and is due a new quilt.
So many quilts on my round tuit list...
I have 3 quilt top wips in patterns I found on pintrest.
I am full time at the PD as night shift dispatcher. It's great because I can work on projects in my free time. That is…Continue
It has been another busy week.
Seriously, I was ready to kill him! Cleaning windows and mopping floors and he thinks he's going to cross that floor with his shoes on after doing yard work!!! Finishing up my 6 purses this morning. Next on the list is an I Spy quilt for new parents in August.…Continue
I must have been out of my mind when... I agreed to make 6 purses for a lifelong friend. She wants them for her sisters for Christmas. Promises are promises...Again, I'm trying to get this off my list before summer gets here. This weather can't seem to make up it's mind...…Continue
Well, the hand-quilting of the middle of the Spring Flowers quilt is done. Just the borders to go.
Finally finished the quilt for grandson Aiden. He picked out the floral print and the white fabric in the center of the blue blocks. Sense they didn't quite go together I came up with this design and used the fabrics Aiden liked. I hope that I will be able to get this quilted before christmas. I start this project using a light blue that I ran out of after making half the blocks I needed. Once I found the turquoise color I decided to start over and worked out the quilt below. As for…Continue
I have been doing alterations for many year but yesterday I was taking the hem out of a Winter coat and found in the whole width of the hem a black powder that looked like gun powder. I was up at the hall with friends and they agreed with me. So they suggested I call the police to check out the substance. I didn't have my phone with me so one of the ladies called. They came and said it was probably some rotted thin rubber that is sometimes put in garments and not to be alarmed. Has anyone…Continue
I'm doing pretty well. It's been about 3 1/2 months now since Dennis' passing. I have pretty much found my new 'normal' . I spent Easter down in Oregon with my son, but also visiting a very close friend who was just diagnosed with a type of glioblastoma. Hers is not operable at all. She hopes to start chemo and radiation very soon. It was good seeing her. I hope to get down again later in May.
Not much time or energy to be in my sewing room. I keep busy with three…Continue
