Thank you all for your ideas - you really do inspire me. Today I have been knitting mostly - while watching "War and Peace". Certainly a long, tedious movie - and have been thinking about where I can set up my sewing machine. I do have a corner here in the dining area that might work. Now to find a small table. The SewEZ table sounds great, but really out of my budget range right now. So will look some more. Just know I will find something - I must get busy sewing!!
I just got off the phone with Laurie. She sounds good for what she has been through. She is a strong lady but still has a very long way to go.
In the morning at 9 am she is going to have surgery on her left hand. 3 bones are broken in that hand. They are going to put pins and plates and screws in it. She will be in a splint for a month. Please pray that her surgery will go well.
They changed her bandages on her left foot, she has 2 incisions, 1 on top of her foot and one on…Continue
I just got an email from Morgan. I sent her all your notes you left on here (or at least just about all). They really touched her heart. The surgery went well, but her lungs were compromised and she is on oxygen all the time right now. She did say she is to be getting on a list for a lung transplant... so we can be praying about that. She is glad to be home.
Morgan asked me to tell all of you thank you for your notes, your thoughts and your prayers. When she is feeling…Continue
Thanks to a very dear friend who is a machine quilter, this quilt is now finsihed. I just couldn't do it justice with my quilting skills. So I asked her if she could fit it into her schedule and I must say, she did an outstanding job.…Continue
Cannot believe it has been so long since I posted a note here. Have checked in occasionally, but have not participated. I have not done any quilting the past few months - have been knitting more and reading.
However, Thursday I walked downtown to meet a friend for coffee. After leaving her, I wandered thru town and into the local quilt shop. And, was quite inspired by the quilts on the wall and a little girls apron ( would love to make one for my 3 year old granddaughter!). So,…Continue
I hope everyone was able to enjoy this rainy day here as much as I did. I was able to finish several things that have been on my UFO pile.
The Turtle wallhanging is headed to a friend who lives in Northern Cyprus where she helps to keep the Loggerheads safe and out of danger. The fabric line isvery cherrful and I know it will add some happiness to her home away from home.
The pillowcases are for my local Ronald McDonald House there are a total of 15, they all were…Continue
I went to BJ's here in Hooksett NH (a wholesale discount store throughout New England) and to my surprise, the Rowenta iron, model DW9155, and made in Germany, is on sale for $69.99. This model usually goes for over $100. I don't know how long the sale will last. I already have one which I bought two years ago for $120, but DH got me one today so I'll have a spare, just in case.
Thanks to everyone who commented on my last two posts about the Tetris quilt. Unfortunately, the patient didn't survive the last operation. When I took apart the quilt sandwich, the back of the top was solid white with shed batting--I really think the batting was defective. When I washed it, that lint balled up in knots in the seam allowances, pulling out threads and rolling up in them. Even if I had carefully clipped all of those, I couldn't feel confident about the integrity of the…Continue
I am amazed by how helpful quilters are, taking time for people they not only don't know, but probably will never meet. And I love the way they enter into the "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" as well. Today is more "agony of defeat" for me--thank you to those who offered help or comfort in my dilemma over the bearding in my quilt. I learned some things, and maybe if I share them with you, you can learn from my experience instead of pulling out a seam ripper and .....I can't…Continue
Dear QWU family. "Laurie the Truck Driver" and her husband were in a very serious car accident on Monday. A pick up truck pulled out in front of them. Laurie was air lifted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa Ok and William was airlifted to St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa OK. I spoke with Marie, Laurie's daughter and got information and I also spoke with Laurie a few minutes ago and I also called and spoke with William. To the best of my ability with what info I have I will fill you all…Continue
Kansas made the news this last Saturday with over 100 tornadoes spotted on the ground or by radar. The approaching bad weather—thanks to modern technology—was forecasted both well in advance and during the tornado outbreaks.
We knew exactly when to go to our tornado shelter because of the radio announcer’s commentary on the paths of the three tornadoes…Continue

Well, the truth is, my quilt has lots and lots of beards. I'm making a Tetris quilt for my daughter's boyfriend--a college graduation present. The top has a good bit of Kona black, but I had to use a white batting b/c of the lighter colors in the quilt. I used a Quilter's Dream Request cotton batting. But it is bearding a lot--it is only noticeable on the black fabric, but there it is really noticeable. Any suggestions about what I can do? Will washing the quilt after it's finished…Continue
I bought a book (Sew Serendipity Bags) intending to make a backpack. I'm having trouble locating grommets in the color that I want and "slides" for strap adjusting. Anybody have a good online source for bag or purse hardware? Also, what is the difference between an eyelet and a grommet? They look the same to me, ;-). Thanks, Terry
Many of you "old timers" on QWU will know Morgan Hess. Please keep her in prayer. Today she is having surgery that will correct some "female" problems she is having. She still battles with life daily from the burns she got years ago on her lungs and can get very ill very fast from germs. She is amazing, though, as she is upbeat and sees the blessings in each day God gives her. She quilts as she has the energy and is doing some great handwork…Continue
also Happy birthday Natalia...you would have been 23 today...miss you every day!
I haven't been posting much, just too tired or too busy working and working on quilts. I have finished three tops I think sence I last posted any thing. I really have been slacking. I have also been taking a class on line from local college on how to design websites. Class ends the first part of next month and by mid May I should have my site up and running. So what do the quilts look like?…Continue
A married niece had her baby shower on Sunday (April 15th). The notification came just about a week ahead of that, so it was a little last minute. My quilt was even more so.
I knew she'd chosen a jungle theme for this baby quite some time ago. I had a Bazooples baby zoo animal panel and "Best Friends" pattern from Quilter's World, April 2008 that had been on my "to-do" list since 2008. (You know how that is...) I've been working on my daughter's DWR and another niece's…Continue
I feel like I'm just passing through life this year. Yowza, it's past the middle of April. I had a nice trip to California, met some lovely people, saw rice fields, oranges on trees and blooming camellias. I was lured into a yarn shop (bad influences are everywhere) so I have another couple of projects. Sigh.
From California, I went to be gramma's day care for a week. Fantastic job. Fantastic grandson. Fantastically tired. Yikes. Do you suppose that's why we usually have our children…Continue
Not only did I join 1 Quilt Guild, but I have joined 2 of them and joined a newly started quilt group. LOL.. Call me nuts. And one of the ladies at the 1st quilt guild is also in the second one. She has asked me to join her at another guild. OMG , what have I done!
