UGGG - decided two days before a baby shower to try my hand at quilt as you go. I embroidered most of the blocks, appliqued the letters in the babies name and mastered the joining of the blocks.
......then at 11 p.m. last nite I started the borders. I had a heck of a time with it! I don't know if I was just over tired or what but I could not for the life of me figure out how to do the final two borders so the unfinished edges wouldn't show! I did give it as a gift after I camoflauged… Continue

Happy Sunday. We saw this beautiful cross along one of the freeways and can't remember where. I've been saving it for today.
We left Belvidere SD heading west on I-90……destination, Wall Drug in Wall SD. We weren’t going to stop but everyone we’ve talked to says we shouldn’t pass it up. Being somewhat intelligent adults, we decided to take the advice. The drive was amazing. With the recent rains here, the fields and valleys are too beautiful… Continue

I'm back from a quilt vacation...not a vacation where quilting was involved, but a vacation from quilting. The yard started calling me to plant things and the house was yelling for it's spring cleaning. And I just needed some time away from my sewing machine. Now with my vegie plants growing and the house almost clean my creative juices are starting to flow again. I've resumed work on my Kaleidoscope quilt. I am just amazed at all the different looks I get with just one repeat of fabric. It's… Continue

Any one have any opinions (strong or otherwise) about pressing seams open. I recently tried it because the squares in the blocks of the quilt that I am working on right now are very small. My points and matching seams are looking great. I was just wondering if there was history or logic about why NOT to press seams open?

As Char so subtly put it, we hit 10,000 members this weekend! Woohoo! I was at the coast and missed the actual moment, but oh - we have plans! Our 10,000th member is Joni Mitchell
- who gets $100 CT gift card. And just 'cause I'm so excited, Adele Peacock
, who is our 9,999th member, gets a $50 CT gift card.
For those of you just… Continue

Thank you for all the wonderful comments on the quilt "Rebooting the Motherboard" I appreciate it. This week I have been working on this car fabric wallhanging. It is a new techique that I am trying out. I know its not finished yet, still trying to decide an a background. All the pieces were cut smaller then the template to let the black show thru. The technique I saw... they used a white background. It is very similar to stained glass, as you do the same thing with the pattern and the black… Continue

I hate the last day of the month at work, its ok if I am home LOL. My dh and I changed shifts about 3wks ago and and only had 1 day off since then. So had to work this weekend and being the last day of course they wanted everything shipped. It was chaos as usual. But starting tomorrow we are back to 6 hrs a day for a while which will help. Then I can get my house cleaned and start quilting again and maybe get this quilt (lap) done for my mom before I go up there in a month or two.

Well we spent the morning over at the duplex mowing the yard and cutting down brush. Took about 3 hours. I did finally go inside and it probably is not as bad as I expected. With a new coat of paint, carpet, tile and the bathroom with some new tile ( I didn't look at the second bathroom) it might look pretty good. The locks need to be replaced. The kitchen cabients need doors and glory be the frig is not in too bad of shape. It is amazing what just getting the persons junk and animals out it… Continue

Hi All, Just changed my photo and wanted you all to see my summer haircut. My daughter in law, Dora, works at Arena Day Spa and Salon in Houston and gave me the works last week at the salon. I do not go to a beauty shop very often and had never had my eyebrows waxed. It didn't hurt, but it shocked me out of my socks! Her friend, Lisa, gave me a manicure and French Nails also. My DH and I were going to a wedding and I looked pretty good that night. I wish I had gotten my photo that night instead… Continue

I have completed the "background quilt" for my applique pieces - now my question is: Do I quilt the background quilt first or do I "iron-on" the applique pieces and then quilt? I'm new to this process, so if you would send your answers to my e-mail address (below) I would appreciate it. Or, just maybe, your answers will be sent directly to my e-mail.

I just added a pic of my dgs Billy to my photos. He is not quite tall enough to reach the foot pedal and hold on to the blocks so I just sat him on my lap. Both he & his older brother Mike have always shown a lot of interest in my quilts so it thrills me to no end that they both are interested in learning how to make their own. There is a pic of Mike working on his 1st quilt in my photo album also.

Our little walk to the 1880’s Town was fun. Here are a few photos of things I liked. We also walked thru their museum and I took a few shot of things used in the movie ‘Dances With Wolves”. The moved was filmed near here and many of the artifact were left behind. I don’t know how authentic the town was but I still enjoyed it and could not imagine living in… Continue

Many of you have travelled along with me on my journey since January. Looking after my dear Mother in Law and her death in February and have given me wonderful support and encouragement along the way. Some of you may have read about how because of winter weather interment was not to be until warmer weather. Last week we had planned an interment and got all together and went to the cemetary only to have my MIL not show. Miscommunication in dates with the gravedigger. I felt she was having the… Continue

Yes, you read correctly. I visited two new quilt shops today. One is actually "brand new" and well on its way to being a great shop. Already has so much fabric and plenty of room to grow. This one is in Cypress, Texas on Skinner Rd and Hwy 290. The second shop is in Brenham, Texas. Although, she has been there 15 years, the store was new to me. She also has a wonderful fabric selection and I am sure to return throughout the summer while I am home in Texas. I picked up a cute teapot pattern and… Continue

Crazy? You bet. It’s really amazing what you discover about your spouse when you are placed in an 8’X 38’ space for a month. I found out that he has this ability to back up our MH with trailer attached and make it go where it’s suppose to when he’s broken two mirrors off our cars backing them in the garage. He can be very agreeable when rested and well fed, and he can call a camel. I don’t know where that came from….must be his mom’s side of the family. Anyway, we saw a camel…in Belvidere,… Continue

It has been a very busy Saturday. While my DH went to the duplex to take things to the trash, I cleaned house and did laundry. He called in the middle of my cleaning and asked that I bring 50 bucks in cash right away. So off to the bank to get the cash. The guy next door tore up all the carpet in the duplex for 50 bucks. A bargin I would say. He also lays carpet and gave us a price, but it is a little high for us right now. Oh well we will get there.
I am waiting for DH to clean up… Continue

I have the borders on my Sisters mountains paper pieced quilt now and I really like the effect. Here's a "teaser" picture of part of the border.
I'm going to make you wait to see what I've done with the borders until I am totally finished now. It will be a few weeks (patience is a virtue, as they say) as this week I need to focus on getting a cell phone holder made for my oldest son and get our camping gear all set. On Saturday we're heading to… Continue

Last night I found myself sitting outside at the KOA in Soiux Falls, with my Kindle and a tall glass of iced tea, with nothing else to do but relax and enjoy the evening. Then, along came this guy. He had one of those plastic red cups in his hand and out of the corner of my eye I could tell he was walking my way. I looked up, smiled and he rushed over and proceeded to ask about our two dogs. We chatted for a few minutes, he reached in the pen and pet both dogs, he asked about our fence and… Continue
