I posted a few weeks ago a pic of a retirement quilt top for my co-worker. I finished off the quilt on the long Memorial Day weekend. Today was the party and as they say, a picture is worth 1,000 words! Out of the 38 kids involved, no one breathed a word to her! I was very proud of them. They were SO excited to give her the quilt! It was a fun afternoon!…

I think that generally, as quilters, we have a basic need to be practical...we give our creative side a "common sense" outlet, we turn scraps into beautifully useful quilts. We don't like waste. ...and now my story... i needed a cutting table, i was hurting my back bending to cut. i looked at the quilt magazines and tables made specifically for cutting, the prices were crazy! i started looking at kitchen islands, the height would be do-able...but the ones that might work were also crazy…

Just wanted to let my friends on Quilt With Us know that I have begun a new longarm custom quilting website and page on Facebook as I venture into quilting for customers on a more regular basis. It features work I have done in the last year or two and includes baby quilts, tee shirt quilts, traditional quilts, heirloom quilting, and quilted wall hangings.
Hope you can take a moment to check it out. I include some pages with hints on how to prepare a quilt for sending to a longarm…

Well my quilt arrived safely home from MQS today and when I took it out of the box there was an instructors choice ribbon attached :) . My friends who went to the show had called to let me know it was there but it was still exciting to get it home and see it in person. Here's a picture of the quilt. …

Anybody know how to cut several 2 1/2 half square triangles? I have the Fons and Porter Half and Quarter Ruler. But, I just came across a tip in quilt magazine, for making multiple triangle-Squares, but not the size Im using. Im so confused.........It takes 2 pieces right sides together and sewn down the middle and then cut.

On May 6th I posted a message that I had started to work on a UFO that I started on 10/21/99 in a class with Lyn Mann, but never finished. At that time I was going to do my best to work on 2 blocks a week until it was finished. Well, once I got started on it I couldn't stop so I finished it last week. Here is a pic of it:
Then after getting…

It's gray today. Sort of matches my mood. I was fine until the boys began fighting. I guess it goes with the turf. Helped hubs clean out the pool and began weeding the asparagus patch. I cannot believe the amount of weeds! They come in during the night and take over. We planted the main gardens last night and all that remains is to till and plant my herbs and some edible flowers. I am not thinking this is going to happen today. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next year.
I also…

it has been some time since I have last posted here - the reason is that we were so incredibly busy with our first International Block Swap! It was great fun and a huge privilege to look after so many blocks from all over the world! If you like, come to our website and read the whole story:…

I bet you thought this was another joke...it is berry time and I've had problems with moldy berries. Wanted to pass this tip along.
The key to preventing moldy berries...
Berries are delicious, but they're also kind of delicate. Raspberries in particular seem like they can mold before you even get them home from the market. There's nothing more tragic than paying $4 for a pint of local raspberries, only to look in the fridge the next day and find that fuzzy…

I haven't visited the boards since winter it seems, I usually put away my sewing until fall comes again because here in Canada we really need all the nice weather we can get and I like to be outdoors enjoying it. This year I ended up with a project that ran e in until the end of April, and along the way I decided to join McCall's Quilt Design Star 2012 Contest. I submitted my "In His Hands" Crib quilt, and made the first round! So I guess I will be doing alot of sewing this summer,…

In an evening class at Stanford University the last lecture was on the mind-body connection - the relationship between stress and disease. The speaker (head of psychiatry at Stanford) said, among other things, that one
of the best things that a man could do for his health is to be married to a woman whereas for a woman, one of the best things she could do for her health was to nurture her relationships with her girlfriends. At first everyone laughed, but he was…

For those of you who are celebrating today, please be safe. We are just sticking close to home as the weather is looking a bit weird this morning. I have been busy washing & pressing quilt fabric for the past couple of hrs. A woman donated lots & lots of quilt shop quality fabric to our local club, but the ones I picked for myself smelled musty as she had stored them in her basement so they all had to be washed. I had other fabrics that I recently purchased on sale so I decided…

Weather is an amazing thing and how it effects us all.......today I've read that a few of you are getting snow, while we here in Florida are getting some much needed rain with Tropical Storm Beryl and the NE of the US is melting. I'm sure those Downunder are enjoying their fall weather as well as those in S Africia. It is just shocking to me that within just a few hours of my house folks are getting snow and are able to snuggle up under some lovely quilts.
