Baby Isabelle finally graced proud parents with her presence and the baby quilt is complete and should be arriving to it's destination today. I didn't do a very good job displaying it. I stuck it to my design wall and didn't pay attention that is wasn't on their…Continue
Is anyone else on this forum going to the KCRQF in Overland Park, KS this coming weekend? I will be there all day on Saturday. It will be so nice to have a large quilt festival within a couple hr drive instead of 10+ hours!
Batting has really changed in the past 40 years. When I started out cotton batting I used Mountain Mist. It has fallen apart in that quilt even thought it was sewn 1" apart. I started using 100% poly purchased right from the maker in Ks., the Amish where also buying a truck load of same, sent in train boxcar load-(that talking large loads). Poly does tend to wave more along the edges. I just tried Warm and Natural 100% poly.($5 yard on sale) it was tightly woven, but I still…Continue
The book is Eleanor Burns' Tales of First Ladies. I love the fabrics Davidene picked for this project, and the designs in the book as well, but I'm not crazy about the piecing methods.…Continue
I posted a question on another forum but I'm afraid it's getting lost in other conversations. You know, getting pushed along to another page. So I thought I'd post it here too for more input. Here it is, copy/pasted:
Hey ladies, guess what I've been doing since yesterday? Finally, I'm quilting a top I pieced a long time ago. Actually the piecing was started in 2012. This is the one I learned piecing on (bad English, I know). Just…Continue
For the past week plus a few days, I've been getting ready for a visit from #2 son, DIL and a 4yr old and an 18 month. Do you know how many truly dangerous toys are in my sewing room? And dangerous dust levels. So, I cleaned and hid things for days. Had a fabulous time with precious grandchildren.
Now they are gone. I'm still looking for some of my carefully hidden toys. Next time--when I stash my iron on the floor in the back of the closet, I'm making a note to myself. I needed to…Continue
Day one of the vacation, get coffee. Hummmm bank card not working. Check account balance, I do have money. Bank not open. Proceeded to Apple to get iphone fixed. Tech tinkers with it for 30 minutes and turns it off then on. "I think it has a software problem. Ok should be fixed." I guess they didn't hear me when I told them that's what I've been doing to it. Next stop, the bank. Yes there was a problem with the debit cards not working. It should be fixed. Just in case, I got cash. Come home…Continue
I've posted about these antique (mostly wool) quilts on the Vintage Quilts group page if you are interested in seeing individual pictures and the story behind them.
We will be moving in a few weeks to the retirement homes here in town. I applied for an application on a Wed. and took it back on Thurs. and was told there was a two bedroom available if we wanted it. They took us first, due to our circumstances in dealing with the stairs here at the house. Bud came home on the 29th of May. He can go up and down stairs by himself but I have set up a commode down stairs so he only has to go up the stairs to go to bed. (I'm doing double duty running up…Continue
The majority of the project is completed. I outlined the design and stippled the background. Made a new bedskirt from the fabric left from the back. The pillow cases were crocheted by my grandmother, but I transferred her work onto new cases that are bigger. I am still working on the pillow shams.…Continue
I couldn't keep from casting on the "Echo Flower Shawl."
I thought it might actually be useful this summer. I'm using Bare 100% Merino Lace Weight yarn from Knit Picks, and putting beads in where the pattern has twisted sts. It's going fast, partly because I'm finding it very…
It has come to my attention that one of our new members has been approached, on the Quilt With Us site, with a request for money from someone she did not know. This person asked to be her friend and, since she was new to the site, ok'd the request. Then she received a request for money! So, if you are new to the site, or new to a group, check out who you are okaying to be friends with. They might not be so friendly!
My aunt gave me cross stitch baby quilt kit that she got for her mother-in-law, only she was not able to do any of it. The directions have gotten misplaced. She said she got it at Hobby Lobby, but they do not offer this quilt now. What I can make out of it is that it has a big bear and sea creatures all around it. Odd to figure out in the blue cross stitch. It also smells and the smell has not gone away out in the open. Can not wash it for the pattern will go away. Any ideas where I can go…Continue
This is a bit long, but definitely worth the time it takes to read it. I saw this on Pat Sloan's group on Facebook & thought it was give everyone else a good laugh.
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!!
Setting and shuffling the blocks before putting together and then the borders one black and the other piano keys. In keeping with the fabric.
Today I put the red square on the blocks with blanket stitch on my sewing machine. Tomorrow join…Continue

I was coming back from the lake and saw a field of freshly shaven sheep. I had cold food in the car so didn't want to stop to take a picture. Hubby and I were out that way and I had him pull over to take a picture to share with you. Well he is laughing his butt off. He said, you might want to look again at those sheep...what??? Ok, what am I suppose to see????? As he is still…Continue
Vintage Stichers met at my house this week, so I could get my turn in while there was little chance of snow and soon after my spring cleaning.
As always, they had some quilts in various stages of completion to show off. Carol took the Easy Bake pattern and added…
